What exactly are the differences? And I mean at a real church, not one of those nondenominational crapholes. Basically I've gotten that they're longer.

Do they use those? Because of all the masses I have been to I don't think any of them were more than a century or so old.

It was reserved for St. Ambrose (d. 397) to become the real "Father of Latin hymnody". Of his pithy and profound hymns fourteen genuine ones have come down to us in addition to four others which are now used at Tierce, Sext, and None in the Roman Breviary

Meh, we have a hymn over 1000 years old in our hymnal. We don't sing it much, but then I have never heard the St. Ambrose one either.
