With facebook, internet video phones, cell phones, etc, you can really drag the process of moving on out for quite a while. You and your friends will slowly drift apart until one day you don't really care anymore. You might still be curious how they are doing, but the attachment will be gone. So don't worry, the pain of moving on is spread out over years, and won't be that bad.
