:pat: I can live with a bit of city-town rivalry. :p

We don't have race riots down here. We keep all our street violence in small groups.

And people from Sydney agree that Melbourne kicks the crap out of Sydney as far as night-life is concerned, despite the drunken stabbings, bashings and occasional shootings.

Sydney has those as well, there just racially motivated, unsportsmanlike like conduct!

You agree that Sydney sucks?

Yes. Yes I do. Judging by a completely arbitrary set of criteria, such as historical attractions (or lack thereof), the Shire and the North Shore. But I still have a natural instinct to glorify it over, say, Melbourne. I hear Melbourne has nice coffee. I'm trying to think about what else I hear is nice about the city...but I'm struggling...

Rant: I'm resigning myself to that fact that I may not have a computer for a while, and my sister may want her laptop back soon. I've reset the SMC, reinstalled the RAM, tried every imaginable start-up combination of keys, and yet my iMac stills resigns itself to halting at the grey screen of death. With my Civ CD stuck inside, seemingly unejectable. Meaning that I can't insert the diagnostic CD. :(

That sucks :(

- nice people (I got robbed on my first trip to Sydney. Never once in my nine years in Melbourne)
- great food
- orderly streets
- cultural life
- better nightlife
- (obligatory reference to trams)
- Melbourne Uni is better than Sydney's
- AFL > NRL
- soccer > NRL (Melb Victory FTW)
- less polluted
- start out as a free settlement, not penal colony
- the true capital city of Australia

That sucks :(
Indeed.

- nice people (I got robbed on my first trip to Sydney. Never once in my nine years in Melbourne)

That's...unlucky. They must've known you were from Melbourne. I've never been robbed, or more house broken into, etc.

- great food

Isn't Sydney meant to have the most diverse and generally best food in Australia?

- orderly streets

That's a big plus- I always get lost in Sydney city.

- cultural life

You mean cafe culture life? Sydney has a multicultural life.

- better nightlife

bin using a fake i.d., have we?

- (obligatory reference to trams)

(obligatory reference to ferries)

- Melbourne Uni is better than Sydney's

Apparently. However arbitrarily that is worked out. Sydney, however, has the next best four universities in Australia.

- AFL > NRL
- soccer > NRL (Melb Victory FTW)

Too true. Please note that I'm a Port Adelaide, and Adelaide United fan. Don't ask why. I have no idea. :dunno:

- less polluted

Pollution diluted by the constant rain.

- start out as a free settlement, not penal colony

Well, I bow down before Melbourne's superior roots, Master Tailless.

- the true capital city of Australia

:crazyeye:

But enough of this quibbling. We both know that you're only trying to put up a front for the shambles of a hole you reside in. ;)

ANU *cough cough cough*

Isn't Sydney meant to have the most diverse and generally best food in Australia?

Isn't Melbourne supposed to be Australia's food capital anyways?

You mean cafe culture life? Sydney has a multicultural life.

That's kinda what I meant.

By multicultural life you mean that Cronulla thing? :mischief:

bin using a fake i.d., have we?

Heh, nah, I'm just parroting people I know (Melburnians, of course). :p

(obligatory reference to ferries)

There's the Sorrento-Queenscliff ferry, Spirit of Tasmania (although having been on it once, I wished I never have to set foot on it ever again). I like how the city is built around a bay.

I forgot to mention that we're also closer to the snowfields than Sydney, I think.

Apparently. However arbitrarily that is worked out. Sydney, however, has the next best four universities in Australia.

Hmm, so it seemed Sydney moved up a few spots last time I checked (QS now ranked it 37th compared to Melbourne's 38th). The next best four excluding ANU are Queensland, New South Wales, Monash (also has the Australian Synchrotron) and Western Australia though. Let's call that one a draw.

Pollution diluted by the constant rain.

That hurts.

Well, I bow down before Melbourne's superior roots, Master Tailless.

Yeah well we would've remained the capital of Australia except that Sydney people were all whiny so being the nice people we are we decided to compromise ;).

But enough of this quibbling. We both know that you're only trying to put up a front for the shambles of a hole you reside in. ;)

I feel more sorry for you then. :mischief:

Rant: We're being threadjacked by Australia!

To settle this, I'll just say: Australia sucks. :p

Till's IRC server is screwy

When I went to the dentist yesterday they found cavities in the 3 wisdom teeth that I did not have the last time I saw a dentist.

My car has been accelerating very sluggishly for the past few days. The mechanic just confirmed my suspicion that the transmission is shot (more specifically, the 1st and 2nd gears don't work), and that the only way to fix it would be to buy a new transmission that costs significantly more than the car is worth. I guess it is a good thing I didn't decide to cancel my housing and commute again this fall and spring as I did in the summer, as we really can't afford a new car at this point (even if we could take advantage of Cash for Clunkers and get more for the car than we originally payed for it).

My laptop is kind of messed up. It had been getting one more one-pixel wide vertical line of discoloration every week or two since about the time the warranty wore off (I was really hoping it would crash right before it wore off and I could get a better one and cash back, like what happened with the family PC), but this week it went from 7 such lines to 11 of them. I had thought that I'd have to pay for my own next time, but my parents agreed that it would be a good idea to let me pick out a new one for Christmas. Hopefully it lasts until then. I guess I could get it as an early Christmas present, but I'd rather skip Windows Vista altogether and go straight to a computer that comes with Windows 7 than have to deal with the hassle of upgrading.

What didn't you have, the cavities or the wisdom teeth?

I have terrible foot health!

There was never a feature movie for the Star Trek: Enterprise series.
