Random Raves 49: Cats Can Have Little a Salami

Growing up in New England, I'm spoiled for pizza. I don't know how places like Domino's and Pizza Hut even stay open around here.

Economies of scale. We have a local chain with I think six stores and their pizza is flat out hands down better, and their price is competitive, but their volume of business is such that they can't really have enough drivers on shift, so if they get a rush their delivery service is inadequate. Between dealing with that uncertainty and the constant e-mail barrage that a national corporate structure can maintain I'm more likely to just go with Pizza Hut, and I'm the most "shop local" committed person I know.

rave: I have a job lined up with the U.S. Census

They used to be good. Should have gone with Domino's.

A few months ago there was a sale on the expensive brand of tuna. I got a few cans for a rainy day.

Well, it ain't rainy, but this is what I bought it for.

The quality is laughably better than the cheaper brand. You can even open the cans without a can opener.

I might need to invest in this brand even outside of sales in the future. The quality difference is immense.

Bought flour and yeast. Better than those cardboard things you lot report on, it should be.

I tried to figure out how many pizza places would have to say no before I got down to calling Papa John's, but I couldn't keep up with an accurate count. Have to just go with "a lot." Maybe "like all of them."

Domino's > Pizza Hut > 50 Feet of Crap > Papa John's

Gas is $1.66 a gallon near my house. No that is not a typo. Even if they say the low oil prices are hurting the economy, it's pretty hard not to be happy about being able to fill up my tank for less than $20 again.

40 cents a litre. That's less than what we were paying in 1991 pre gulf war.

Here in Nova Scotia, they pulled the interrupter clause last week and they're doing it again tonight.

EDIT: Usually they only change the gas prices once a week and the price is set by the utility board. But the interrupter clause lets them change it earlier if there's a sudden change in the market.

I'm guessing Little Caesar's is about 20 feet along there.
Nah little caesar's is actually ok for what you're paying for. And their premium detroit-style pizzas (the square ones) can be legit good. So are there bread sticks - in fact I forgot to rant that I bought plain breadsticks from Papa Johns hoping that they'd be as good as Little Caesar's because they are a similar style of bread but instead I got cardboard with a thin smear of butter reconstituted vegetable spread on top.

Sure, Little Caesar's is cheap, but that doesn't mean it's good.

The two best pizza places in my area are both local. But even without the pandemic, I'm not having any pizza for a while because it's probably not great for my digestive system.

It seems the two most common businesses in my town are pizza places and hairdressers.

Could be worse. Could be hair pizza and dresser places.

dresser places.

We do have a bunch of furniture stores too and I'm pretty sure some of them are money-laundering fronts or something.

I log into Prolific and see this
