Random Raves VI: Put on a Happy Face

I'm displeased at the title of this thread. For one, "rave" doesn't even mean anything positive in England. And "put on a happy face" implies that one isn't happy at all - instead merely acting so.

I got my weekends planned three weeks in advance and most of them is smashing parties. It's going to be Le-gen-dary.

Yeah, sure, whatever, if you call all those french spellings and stupid uneducated names for things(seriously, it's called an elevator, not a lift, and a toilet, not a loo or whatever the hell it is you call it, what are you, peasants who've never seen technology before?)

No, it is a lift.

The front of a car is a bonnet, not a hood.

The back of a car is the boot, not the trunk.

A 'faucet' is a tap.

'Fall' is obviously Autumn.

I could go on.

We're finally getting some long-needed rain.

Language is for communicating with eachother. If everyone understands what a lift is and what Fall means then the purpose is achieved. If not, there is always a chance to learn.
Besides, all languages in the world have more than one ways to say the same thing.

So, smile! Your language problems have been solved :D

But how the hell is a noun meaning "to fall over" or a verb meaning "to slip, drop" ever come to mean autumn? It's ridiculous.

Are you being ironic here? Most people here call toilets "toilets"... If you don't like "French spellings", who don't you spell the world "beautiful" as something more suiting to your American tastes? "Byooteefull"? Is that unsophisticated enough for you?

What is it with these colonials...

Lol, calling our spellings unsophisticated. Why not just speak French then if you love it so much? And what do the english call the season we call 'Spring' then in their infinite oh so sophisticated wisdom?

Um, we call "spring" "spring" funnily enough. As for us speaking French, you're just being stupid.

There is no issue to be had with 'Spring...' we both call it Spring. But Autumn is the correct word - I'm sure it was in the English language well before 'Fall' and therefore is more correct.
