Random SG 01 - The Randomness Begins

IBT – Theodora comes calling.

Turn%20198%20Theodora_zpsjkejy8dn.jpg

She found out that we “borrowed” her printing press textbook. I take her hand, look deeply into her eyes and swear that I will never borrow her book again. I give it back to her (we copied everything in it) and kiss her hand. Then I try a Gomez Adams move and start kissing up her arm. I am rewarded by a slap across my face.

 She loves me. I know it.

She also smiles and tells me she has just completed the Sistine Chapel as I am leaving.

Turn 199 – 1390 AD – Hippo: cargo ship => zoo
I shift the cargo ship to Carthage.
Attila has a knight and a musket in sight east of Edirne. I upgrade our two long swords to muskets. He also has another galleass off Addis Ababa

Before I forget, here is an intelligence report on what I know of Hun naval deployment (11 total galleasses):

IBT -
Turn 200 – 1400 AD – I have concentrated most of our fleet south of Istanbul.

Watch the build of Oxford in Carthage to get the techs we want.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL PLAYERS

I positioned our great general under the knight just south of Addis Abada. I would create a citadel on war declaration and grab the ivory.

lurker's comment: Well hello there, nice surprise to see a SG. I'll try and catch up.

Edit, catching up:

  • Would've settled Hippo Regius 1NE on a hill for the extra shield
  • I also still call them shields
  • Combined arms sea warfare is really really strong in civ 5 - overpowered even, at equivalent tech vs ground - you just need ground troops to push defenses. Until battleships that is.
  • Rule of thumb I use for great scis: settle them until schools/factories, save them when you get near research labs, use them after labs have had 8 turns to settle in.
  • Immortal-deity AI will wipe the floor with your attempts at missionaries unless you back it up with strong NW+pantheon. Imo: just buy pagodas everywhere with faith.
  • I'll have to open the save to get a grasp at what kind of war we want to wage vs Attila - if you'll have me ;)

So Attila is a bit behind with his navy, now is a good time to strike before he gets up in arms with frigates.

I'm thinking:
  • Wage a defensive war to hold ground and gain sea control, use our navies to capture Jijiga and Attila's court. Maybe keep Jiji, maybe raze it then use a GG to claim salt.
  • Finish fertilizer, then Sci Theory for pub schools. With our research bolstered, get coal and oil before heading straight into battleships.
  • Plan a short maritime war against Sweden (2 capitals) then Byzantium (last capital). Both LZs for Edinburgh and Stockholm are awkward and leave our ground forces on flatland, vulnerable to harrassment. Fast movement 3 range sea bombard will be much stronger than a landing in the Singapore desert (which is an allied CS for Sweden: extra hurdle ... which we should make sure to spy-steal before going on the offensive).
  • Keep Theodora in the game until the end, in case she changes her mind about Bugs' big strong hands :groucho:

I agree with the urgency to start the Hun war. Just during the last two turns, I saw two galleasses show up.

I like the idea of taking Jijiga for tactical reasons. 1. Jijiga has some ranged units stationed there. It will control the approaches to Attila's Court. We want to secure our lines of communication. 2. Having the salt (right now it will need to be repaired) will offset the unhappiness. We may want to raze it after we have Attila's Court and as you suggest, take the salt with a great general.

The naval campaign will need to begin south of Istanbul. Attila will send his fleet at ours. By concentrating our units we should be able to pick off his ships then move on Jijiga and the capitol.

For Sweden, we don't need to take the Celtic capitol, we just need to take Stockholm. Theodora is focusing on a tourism win so I don't think she will last long in a fight. Poor Theodora :worship:

Yey, welcome Beorne^^

We still need a Celtic capital..

About navy positioning, if we can keep few ships near Addis Ababa we may save our trade routes from pillaging, I would do that. And we need it too, anyways, I guess we should grab it in the same war after Attila's court and this Jijga?
But ye, pushing Attila with frigs is good, I love frigates wars^^
Just not playing too offencive with land troops, without dynamite it doesn't worth it, IMHO.

Yes, with the new rule, we need Addis Ababa as well. I think we could actually hold off on that one. After the great fleet-to-fleet engagement Jijiga => Attila's Court => Addis Ababa.

My reasoning for getting Attitla's Court first is it will cripple Attila's production.

Is Edinburgh coastal? Looking through the entire thread, I don't see that we have located it. Mostly because the Celts were eliminated before we could establish an embassy.

All capitals are coastal and yes, we need them all. Addis last, in the next war, sounds good.

Teproc hasn't posted here since Feb 22nd, but according to his stats he has been on on CFC as late as Mar 15th.

I sent him a PM to remind him that he is up.

I think as a team we need to decide on how much time we should allow each other to check in and give a "got it". Traditionally it is 24 hours for got it, 48 hours to play. This game isn't working out like that and I have been pretty liberal on giving folks time to check in and play.

Ideas?

:bump: This would be the part of the conversation where someone else on the team responds.

24/48 makes it Gurra's turn to show up, right about now.
