Random SG 01 - The Randomness Begins

Finally here is the situation around Singapore and Bursa:

Singapore_zpswk6zl2mx.jpg

The Swedes have been focused on Bursa. I have been sitting off the coast and picking them off. You don’t have to kill them dead since Singapore and Bursa will finish them off.

4 things:
  1. Last time Teproc was online was over a week ago ... skip?
  2. Any hints of more iron in the wild? We could use more frigates, always.
  3. How did the factory building go? Any of them $-bought?
  4. About the extra snowy oil, I'd sit a GGen next to it.

Thanks for doing the roster.

I didn't buy any factories.

There are some iron sites "in the wild". One I remember is south of Theodora.

I like the Great General idea to claim the far northern oil. We have one sitting around over in Turkey.

The last time Teproc posted on this thread was Feb 22nd. He/She has missed the last two rotations.

Let's do this. When/if Teproc checks in he/she can have the next set of turns. Until then Teproc will be on skip.

Nice set! Seems like I get to kill some Swedes then. Good choice putting our delegates to vote for the Natural Heritage Sites resolution I proposed to the World Congress earlier, if it passes we have at least 3 natural wonders that will get bonuses.

What do we do if the World's Fair passes? Do we want to try at all for bonuses or dismiss it altogether?

I love the world fair because it means my neighbors will produce things that won't save them.

Haha, now that is a good point. While they keep themselves busy with the World Congress we could use the time to strengthen our forces. We'll have to see if it actually passes, but the World's Fair usually does in my experience. I'll play either later tonight or tomorrow. :)

That's true:)

Silver (free SP and 500 points towards the next golden age) may worth it in many cases, but I don't think it does in our situation (production is low while the culture is high).

About the tundra oil, we can wait a bit, often borders expand on oil naturally, we don't need more than 10 oil until we hit battleships/cariers.

T240: Inherited turn, nothing more to do.

IBT: Our spies successfully rigged elections in Singapore and Buenos Aires. Sweden entered the Modern Era. Huns stole Archaeology.

T241: Vancouver, the city-state to the south of Saguntum, is a Swedish ally and this posed quite the situtation around our new city.

I sent in a Frigate to help out, and a Privateer is close and on its way too. Over at Bursa, our frigates bombard Swedish units attacking the Ottoman city.

Both World's Fair and Natural Heritage passed, and I propose Cultural Heritage Sites (+2 culture per GP improvement) to the World Congress. A Great Artist outside Carthage started 12 turns of Golden Age.

IBT: Attila doesn't like our proposal to the World Congress. Sweden adopts Order. M'banza-Congo gave us a cannon, how nice of them!

T242: I traded Open Borders with Suleiman so we could have access through Bursa territory. I start embarking our army and the Great General in Turkey goes with them because we already have enough Oil and Utique seem to be expanding in that direction by itself anyway. Walls were bought in Saguntum to help protect against the Vancouver attackers.

Privateers are finished in Carthage and Utique. Carthage starts another Privateer and Utique starts building a Factory.

T243: Our navy keeps bombarding Swedish units. Hippo Regius finishes a Privateer and starts on a Factory.

IBT: Suleiman denounces us.

T244: Electricity is researched, and we continue with Refrigeration. Aluminum was discovered in one of our existing mines in Turkey. Carthage finishes another Privateer and they start building a Constabulary for spy protection.

Bursa is cleared from Swedish units and I start moving our navy and embarked army towards Edinburgh.

IBT: Byzantium declares war on Sweden! At this time they had the world's largest army according to the demographics so it was nice to see it used not against us. Gustavus tries to ask us for peace, offering to give us Birka, but I say no to that.

T245: The siege of Edinburgh begins! Oh, how I love our Frigates with Range promotion.

Colosseum finished in Saguntum, they start on a Workshop.

T246: Carthage finishes Constabulary and start on a Musketman. The siege of Edinburgh continues.

T247: Edinburgh has fallen! The city is now a Carthaginian puppet. We now control 5 out of 7 original capitals. We were at -1 happiness and because we had a lot of gold I bought a zoo in Saguntum.

IBT: Suleiman expresses how disappointed he is with our World Congress proposal. Theodora wants to buy horses from us and I see no need to hold on to our Horses so of course she can have some. Her army also conquer the Swedish city of Birka. Our city-state allies Budapest and Cape Town give us their newly improved oil resources.

T248: Carthage finishes a Musketman and starts building a Stock Exchange.

IBT: Theodora wants more horses. Alright, why not? And damn! Sweden took Edinburgh back with a Carolean I hadn't spotted.

T249: But no need to worry, our navy takes Edinburgh back next turn. However, I accidentally annexed the city this time instead of puppeting it.

A Great Scientist is born in Gades and I bulb him to finish Refrigeration. I then start researching Rifling.

Hippo Regius finishes Factory and start on a Stadium for more happiness.

There is also something written here on the paper (by me) that I can't read, it goes something like this: Nendig goes O electrndsh Codanhgo. Turns out I had written "New spy goes to rig elections in Colombo". I need to work on my handwriting...

IBT: Theodora wants even more horses. I give her horses because we don't use horses anyway.

T250: Factory finished in Utique and Public School finished in Gades. Both cities start working on Submarines.

Now, we have a choice to make. It is time for Carthage to adopt an ideology! Personally I think we could go with either Order or Autocracy, but which one do we want? Autocracy would give us 2 free tenets for being the first adopter, as opposed to Order which has already been adopted by Sweden.

This is how it looks around Edinburgh, on the front against Sweden. If we were to take Dublin - do we want to puppet it, raze it, or liberate it and revive Boudicca? Or should we just go straight to Stockholm with our navy and leave the land fights to Theodora?

And last: demographics. We are first in everything except for approval.

Reviving might be a good idea.

We can get into happiness problems really quick if Theodora selects something different. IIRC she has a ton of tourism. I agree with autocracy, but go for anything that gives happiness.

Well done. Gurra.

Wait wait wait, can we revive Boudicca??

If we can let Sweden and Byzantium dish it out, we might have a very early, very easy win on our hands.

Yep, if we liberate one of her former cities Boudicca will come back to life and be very friendly towards us.

Well I don't know what to make of Eric. When I posted the roster at 1:01 PM EDT, I was going to say that we might need to skip Eric. Before I made that hasty remark, I went up to the member's list and looked up Eric to see when he was last on CFC. To my surprise, he was on CFC at that moment and he was looking at:

[BNW] Random SG 01 - The Randomness Begins

He did not bother to check in, say "hi", or even tell us to go to hell.

We will give him to Monday at 1 PM EDT to give us a "got it". After that it will be Beorn's turn to take up the :hammer:

I am playing the major gauntlet right now and I have revived both Washington and Boudicca in that game.

So, ground war: do we revive Boudicca? Does she come equipped with anything to defend vs Gus?

I'm inclined to park a few troops in the old capital for show and call it a day, move around, and powerwash Stockholm with our biggest water hoses. Sue for peace and get a quick victory set up in Constantinople.

I'm happily surprised at how well we're doing with an immediate war on Gus. Now there's no doubt in my mind that we can sweep it under the rug really soon, really quietly.

I'd also look into establishing 1-2 more cities on critical resources, just in case, if there are viable candidates.

Yeah, getting Stockholm first sounds like the best idea to me because that's the city we want for our victory. Also, it's on the coast and we have the greatest advantage at sea - not on land.

It might be possible to split this war against Gus on two fronts, what do you think? Make Edinburgh our land "base", getting our army set up there and then marching on Dublin (with possible support from Theodora depending on where she goes). While at the same time making our navy useful (with all those extra range frigates!) attacking Stockholm since they can't reach any other city anyway.

I think taking the Stockholm just with navy is ok, isn't it? Ranged frigates will do a quick work on a city;)
And land forces can go towards Dublin, we won't need them for anything else-)

Reviving Boudica is good, it would hurt Hus and won't do happiness problems to us.
About happiness, can we buy more cs's?
Guess it will be pretty bad after taking Stockholm:(

Since we have refrigeration, I suggest to build few (3-4?) submarines, Theodora has a lot of navy, remember?)
If we do it looks like we can finish the game with frigates, lol-)

Oh yeh, about ideology, I think Autocracy is good, Hus shouldn't have any tourism pressure on us, right?
Say Happiness for castles (or national wonders) and exp buildings happiness as the next policy? One more lvl1 policy is needed, I don't know.. Maybe reduced cost of purchasing army?
