Gmail has recently changed its integration with Google Hangouts. If you previously always had it disabled, you'll now find yourself being signed in every time you open Gmail even if you sign out from Hangouts again and again.

To fix: Click the Gear icon at the top right. They changed this too. Click on See all settings. Go to the Chat and Meet tab. Disable Chat.

I still have the gear icon. Maybe this is browser-dependent?

The icon itself is the same, but they've switched from a drop-down menu to a "Quick Settings" tab and then "See all settings." At least for me.

Well, it dropped down for me. :dunno:

There is a link for "See all settings" but I assume that's the equivalent of "advanced" for people who want more detailed choices.

There are only two things that have annoyed me much lately. The theme I chose years ago is the solar system one. The background theme is supposed to cycle through the solar system (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) so I get a different one every day. It was stuck on the Moon for over a year, and then it got unstuck, and now it's the Moon every day again.

The other thing is I have Adblock for Gmail... but ads sometimes creep in. That's annoying.

Well, okay, three things. It keeps insisting that any mail I get from The Penguin Place is spam. Including receipts for orders, and notifications that the order has been mailed. Oh, and it also occasionally tells me that CFC is dangerous.

This is why I use Mozilla Thunderbird instead of GMail's web interface.

What have you dreamed?

Will you awaken?

I got an email from someone claiming they want to give me a million dollars in COVID-19 relief. Since it got by Gmail's spam filters, it MUST be legit. :twitch:

Wow, that's generous. AISH recipients get zip, zilch, nothing in COVID-19 relief other than the Minister of Social Services sticking her arrogant nose in the air as she always does when condescending to mention us and saying, "You still have your regular benefit, it isn't being taken away" and it never occurs to her that we've had extra expenses as well, because many of our normal support systems aren't happening during the pandemic and those people and services have to be paid for.

For even more fun, apparently that one-time $600 for Disability Tax Credits recipients (which would've missed anywhere from 60-80% of Canadians with disabilities because the DTC is bull) was completely shelved after it failed, because I've not heard anything of it since.

Yep. Tax credits are useless for people who don't make enough to pay tax in the first place. If it had been along the lines of the GST, on the other hand, that would have been useful.

But then we have a federal government that thinks $100k/year is "middle class".

On top of the ridiculous requirements for it. Plus some doctors charge to fill out the paperwork. CPP-D, the other federal program, is only available for those who were able to contribute to the system before getting their disability. :(

Is it not? Certainly sounds like it would be the upper end of middle class, but depending on your area's cost of living, it's hardly super rich.

I think in Canada the low-income cut-off for a single person is around $25,000 a year.
