"Despite their excellent eyesight, red octopuses use touch and smell to find food, relying on chemical and texture receptors that line the rims of their suckers. Emerging at night, this species searches the seafloor, crawling in and out of rocky areas to flush out crabs and shrimp. Once prey is secured, the octopus will kill it with venom secreted from salivary glands before cracking the shell with its beak." National Geographic

Freud predicted that as history continues, Thanatos grows every stronger, Eros ever weak.

So far, so true. In a boxed world, thoughts frame you, control you. What was supposed to be a tool uses the user. What marks your life is dead and rigid. It is logic without the heart, without the divine spark. And Eros, the fire in your soul, is suffocated.

Only when thought and passion are in a free dance, will you be balanced, and only then, logic may be logos. Only then, you will even be able to do what is the most in your own self-interest. Not your "rational" self-interest. Such a thing does not exist. It is a silly fiction. Because you are not a computer. Though certainly, we are, right now, on our way to ever more forget and deny that and make it so anyhow. Won't fly. Not on my watch.

To best way to get out of ones box is to follow ones passion without compromises. Though beware, this is also the hardest way. The way requiring the most bravery, strength and endurance. The path of most resistance from the outside, and the most suffering. A path certainly not for everyone, but only for the fiercest of hearts.

Well, random in a different way:

The point the (late) Conway is making is that you can view any "randomness" as something which was set in the past, and in that way identify it as distinct from the choice of the moment. To illustrate this he used (mostly one page before this) the example of a backgammon playing tournament where the dice was thrown by the organizer (so that all players would react to the same random throw, and not deal with separate and unequal throws), but moreover the organizer didn't throw the dice in front of the players but one night before, in his room. Likewise, the dice could have been thrown far in the past, and so are distinct from the "free" reaction of the players to the numbers they got.

Also, if you are @Arakhor : Ineluctable is a nice word.

After all, in a lot of senses ‘luck’ is everything that is beyond your direct control.

Hm, this is supposed to be AI-generated music.
I don't doubt it is - just wondered how much it used direct human input (lyrics)

"I will create a super-virus,
trash your whole computer system and revert you to papyrus"

@Samson

I think it's just the video that's AI-generated, based on the human-written-and-performed lyrics + music.

If so, it sucks (images aren't high quality either :( )

But on principle I don't see AI music being far away, since it can feed of enough repeated loops and is similar in a way to graphical art.

Getting a mild cold sucks. I wish we had the technology to get over it faster!

Any particular type? Green/Yorkshire/Mint/etc?
I don’t think the type matters (Green/Black). Usually I add in honey for sore throat relief.

They are generating the images by feeding the lyrics into the text to image AI MidJorney. But still, silly AI, telling us its plans. Evil genius 101 mistake.

Stay away from people and crowded public spaces; wash your hands frequently; take zinc as soon as you feel a cold coming on; wear a mask. All those will help keep you from getting them to start with.

I've never understood what bothers people about necro'd threads. I don't even really understand the name. Are thoughts that have been had before, dead, so that revisiting them is some dark and evil art? It has sad implications for the typical mindset.

Most non serial threads spring from some sort of current (then) event or thinking that was relevant at the time. With very old threads, many of the participants are no longer even here. For the staff, if such an old topic is still relevant, a new thread is a better vehicle for the discussion. 2022 is not 2009 and sensibilities are likely different and even the language used may have changed. Digging old long unused threads is not a good substitute for crafting an interesting OP on the same topic that is suited to today's conversations. If you like reading through threads from 2005, you certainly can; you could even start a thread about how things have changed since then and provide links to the past. :)
