Random Thoughts XV: Temere Cogito, Ergo . . .

Hmm. It's a bit like suspense films before and after Se7en, perhaps.

so I found this nifty site called 'Symbolikon' which has symbols of various cultures from various periods of history. HOWEVER, the site completely forbids you from downloading the symbols unless you purchase a license. even for personal non-commercial purposes the license is a $15 per month. is this fair?

I do not think "fair" is the correct word. Their site; their rules. I'm sure many of those symbols are available in the public domain and can be found elsewhere. They seem to want you to pay for their effort to collect and categorized them.

They cannot deny you fair use rights, even if they try to. Personal non-commercial purposes does not make it fair use, but it helps. Being transformative kind of does. It depends what you want to do.

They seem to be selling fonts and adding in their version of symbols as a freebee. I think their fonts are mostly, pretty ugly, but if they created them, selling them seems appropriate.

Have you tried Prnt Scrn?

Have you tried Prnt Scrn?
I did. It's impressive really. The site has a pop-up block the image when you click PrntScrn.

Anyhow getting the logo isn't too much of a problem, I was able to circumvent it via Edge's Edit Image feature (and some of the logos show up in search, so you can download them that way) but I was thinking the $15 is way too exorbitant for personal and non-commercial use

Just FYI, two ways to circumvent their block is to turn javascript off or to look at the source (Ctrl-U in most browsers). The urls or the images are clearly visible.

You can do those or simply leave the browser open in the background while you have something small as your active screen and then use Prnt Scrn.

Looking at the source is sometimes impratical. Also, adblockers and popup blockers should be helpful.

Descendants of the royal family of the Ottomans

The two back centre & left look extremely similar. I thought it was some sort of face-swapping joke at first.

Bamboo family tree?

civ 6 players in thread no doubt .

their past include Eastern Roman and Serbian Princesses and while never discussed in open history , it is possible that it was a Turhan Sultan/Köprülü agreement that all future members of the Harem would be bought straight from the bazaar and only in cases of clear Caucasian ancestry . An unbroken line of 15 or 20 generations of grandmothers . Wouldn't be surprised to learn they are Whiter than any of the European Royal Houses .

now . On the day Halep apparently falls . Some algoritma trick no doubt .

here , their local and national relatives and whatnot .

the younger one is apparently gay , with his own claims that he was with Ricky Martin . Seperate claims exist that he is a criminal , impersonator and stuff , if not some straight out mental case . The bald one calls himself the "Crown Prince" , despite being against the laws and sells tomato paste online . Tweeted that the other guy was not in the family . The other tweeted this picture as an answer .

wondering where this will end ?

the tomato paste guy is a staunch defender of anything New Turkey . Unlike the 5 kids above he descends from Abdülhamid ll , the last true padishah of the Ottomans , according to the age long Islamist propaganda . "Before Jews stole the country in the form of Ittihad" . If a caliphate was to be declared , the tomato paste guy would be the first to kiss the "kaftan eteği" . The other would be beheaded as an example of degenaration why the Republic had to be destroyed in revenge and even if re-establishing the Ottomans was always claimed to be the call for action , Ottomans are effeminate and are not fit for power and everybody should now be Arabs .

the mother of the five above knows about this . New Turkey never mentions them . Or her British husband . Sometime when she was 10 to 15 , her mother/the grandmother of the five asked for a detailed explanation of why she should never consider the throne . Some person arrived and it was some long evening starting with Sakallı Nurettin Paşa . This is the guy who arranged the deaths of the bishop or whatever of Izmir and later the grandfather of Boris Johnson by finding officers that would fail to stand upto angry mobs , strangely led by local Ittihad men . He would have done the same in a suitable time to get some of the Royal Family .

kemal was a Republican , the Goverment would inevitably would abolish the Sultanate and he had definite ideas on what would have to be done . Ittihad did not share quite a few of those ideas . Only Mustafa Kemal could have led the War of Liberation , because of reasons barely hinted at for the benefit a teen of 10 to 15 . And also he might have married into the family , meaning he was not a Bolshevik or anything . Ittihad would have benefitted from that Civil War , instead of having been forced to speak positively about Atatürk for decades . An interesting part should have been the discussion of the Anastasia problem in reference to the truly immense hatred of some Russian aristocrats against their kin , for the assumption that it was plotted by foreign actors to get the Romanoffs killed . But , you know , the possibility that she might come out and start pointing fingers is what led to British evacuate Vahdettin in 1922 , instead of protecting him as they could have done . Until the day of the mobs . The British father of the 5 above will probably not be offended if the mother was to have her own speech about why Ingiliz ipiyle kuyuya inilmez/that you won't go down in a well with a rope that was provided by London ...

yes , the Ottoman Empire is history . At a time when British Goverment buzzes the American bases in country for the appearance of stopping the Marxist Leninist Pentagon to rush the 48th TFW to save the Kurds or something so that New Turkey can have a fake victory to give away the country to Ihvan and the seperatists . Meaning there should be no bother about offering the possibility of brand new faces for a new Ottoman rule . The threat to the kids would obviously not come from the Republic anyhow ...

sweet ! A wall of text on why a mother will not put forward his children to be attacked online or even assassinated for real and the cheering arrives to the contrary . Oh yes , another one . Had to ask where ı had it wrong about thinking it was 1940s , '42 even and was told that was the next attempt .

another Ottoman Prince , oldest grandchild of Abdülhamit , in Tokyo in 1933 . Like no fez , no beard but hey ... The Japanese have promised to set him in Chinese Turkestan .

and this one in '35 . New Turkey journalist who interviewed the Ottoman family over the years tells there were two of them , one for Turkestan and the Caliph , other for Mongolia . The talks went sour and the Ottomans ran away in great secrecy . One hid in Brazil , Abdülkerim Efendi to New York . Japanese spies took revenge by killing him in a suicide set-up . Over the years the claims will be modified into Anglo-Chinese spies as Islamists are fixatated with insisting that it is them who fight the British plots and schemes ; the Kemalists and the seculars are fakes . Newspaper here says he wanted to marry an heiress living in Bronx . The journalist of course has his own conspiracies on why the suicide note is written to the New York Police chief in the old letters or Arabic script when the guy spoke English and French . Because the note suggests he would use the money of his wife to raise an army in China and invade Turkey to bring down the Kemalist Regime . Can imagine that army marching all the way from Shanghai , too . Like somebody does not really want people to discuss Henry Ford declared him the Ford dealer for the Western China or thereabouts , as the American supported person to do the Japanese plot in sync with Herr Hitler , when he marched East .

no , it was Edgar Hoover's FBI .

hiding behind the Business Plot of Smedley War is a Racket Butler , taking advantage of FDR's fixation with all things Chinese , truly incensed that some Armenian would be considered a friend by some Turk , considering the 1915 stuff and the Armenian was the Ottoman/Turkish Consul General in New York until 1927 , over some 23 years and he still remained a Turkish Diplomat after that . 1940 starts as a bid to support Herr Hitler as well , rapidly stalled when France is knocked out . 1942 is still anti-Soviet and it finally forces the Ottoman family into a serious discussion about things . Some proclaiming they will fight for the Turkish Republic and the Kemalists when any mission creep happens . Ask them . If you can .

For what it is worth, Pu Yi in Manchukuo was dressed in a Western style when he was proclaimed emperor even though he was originally the Qing monarch.

not saying anything but it is something for local discussion , that the deposed rulers set to bring down the Kemalist Regime or whatever , have no trouble following its reforms while setting on a Jihad and Caliphate .

I recommend reading Kenizé Mourad's autobiographical books on the subject. She herself was the great-granddaughter of a Sultan.

You could say the same about the Japanese Empire, the Ethiopian Empire, the Shah of Iran, etc.—not really unique to the deposed Ottomans.
