Random Thoughts XV: Temere Cogito, Ergo . . .

I was thinking about how good I am at predicting the future and I just realized I never thought of the time component: if it’s within a few seconds, I’m really good—like 100%. Anything more than a minute and it begins tapering off quickly.

A certain right-leaning part of the North American political spectrum is against wind turbines/farms, the ones used for power generation.

I wonder what % of those people build windfarms in civ.
In SimCity 2000 they were highly expensive and ineffective. I liked a mix of coal, oil, and nuclear (disasters off.)

I wonder if they would even play Civ. Some might for the fun of conquering everyone and establishing a theocracy.
I didn’t know my politics were relevant to a video game.

What does it mean if both "X is Y" and "X is not Y" are true?

Apple macOS 15 Sequoia is officially UNIX.

Apple macOS 15 Sequoia appeared in mid-September and is an official, compliant version of UNIX™, but that may not mean exactly what you think.

What UNIX™ certification means now is what used to be called "POSIX compatible".

POSIX is essentially a set of compatibility specifications and tests, including having the right tools present in the right locations. So long as they are there, an OS can pass the test.

The core of macOS is a kernel called XNU which, ironically, stands for "XNU is Not Unix".

Spoiler MacOS in 1988 on youtube :
He is demonstrating NeXTstep 0.8 at 1:03:09, and it is recognisable.
Nice, a Gödel sentence in marketing :)

Well, in literary studies, we call that a paradox. More permissible there than in computer programming, I suppose.

I think more people walk oddly than they used to. You expect kinetic difficulty as people age, but it seems to be happening to people more often and while they're younger.

I dunno why. Maybe microplastic consumption or something. I suspect there's a ubiquitous chemical that is far worse for you than currently believed and future people will look back on this era shocked at the primitive societies that didn't realize it. Like lead.
I agree with that, we've introduced so many novel chemicals into food, body products, air and water it's a water people can still reproduce at all.

Re : physical movement, people are hunched over their phones and computers much of the day and have to perform less and less physical labor and walk fewer steps. Even fitness people still are more sedentary that humans have ever been in history 90% of their days (outside gym, track, yoga studio, whatever)

As Perchik says in Fiddler on the Roof, "Everything's political".

(he had just asked Tevye's daughter, Hodel, to marry him by asking her to join him in a socio-economic alliance; after being assured that he felt affection for her, she said yes)

Remember Boxxy? :)

Time flies by, she is in her 30s now.

I'd have to have known her earlier.

Noooo, I'm not going to even click on that.

bah , this one is easy . Somewhat hectic internet activity in the country with Hizbullah possibly having killed the Israeli Chief of Staff in a mess hall in the Golani Brigade Headquarters after the lrish UN Peacekeepers under Israeli fire or whatever . Taxes invented to fight Israel when the people of New Turkey know like it is not going to be ever real , this fighting Israel thing .

even on a local basis , stuff . Now , it is widely expected that ambulances are used as a taxi service at rush hour . So , any wannabe basically stops the ambulances in the traffic for rep . To check if they are doing illicit stuff . There is a "security lane" on the roads , to be left free for the Police , Fire Department and ambulances for fast/safe driving to provide the required assistance . The head of the football fan club or whatever stops such an ambulance and a fight starts where his son punches the ambulance driver . Who might or might not be innocent , because you know , everybody says something as the ambulance camera shows only the front of the vehicle or something . The reports were the 80 years old patient women suffering a stroke had died because of the delay . With very few reports that her condition was critical . Today , she is a 77 year old thst already left the hospital . Nobody had like actually thought the son would suffer anything or whatever ... Never minding the thing that the possibly biggest fast food chain in the country was supposedly serving pork in meatballs , despite the rumours that it was paying protection money to the underlings of the PM . Reportedly the business is as brisk as always . Like people should have thought twice about faking reports before taking on the PM , right ?

so , like this is totally understandable ! Another affair ı didn't know ı had . Two days and they will all forget it like understandably but hey ...She is some another p.rnstar and famous enough that they don't have to send pictures on the phone ...

Here's (part of) what you've missed:

Tldr she was one of the first icons on youtube.
Also one of the first prominent victims of online trolling.

I think I've only seen her (possibly) in that "Young Girl Talking About Herself" remix by Parry Gripp. At work and can't watch to verify..

I recall her being mentioned on CFC, years ago. That was when I came to know of her existence. I also recall what I posted then (that she seemed to just act like a teen, which for her age was obviously normal).

Boxxy is adorbs. If teenage girls don't gush, who will?

In unrelated news, I think the election is causing real brain damage. We get this headline:

Freeze warnings issued for millions with the coldest temperatures in months incoming

... instead of "winter is coming."

"Winter is coming!" Pah!

How does that compare to the scope of "millions"? the drama of "freeze warnings"? the implied threat of "incoming"? The superlativeness of an "-est"?

From where would our anxieties derive if all one were to mention was the routine change of season?

Reading a book called The Dead Beat, a tribute to obituaries and their writers, I was amused at the author's descriptions of how to access Usenet. She was writing in 2004-2005. On a whim I did a search and saw that there's still a usenet community! Something to look into when I'm not so busy with schoolwork.

Incoming!
