Know the Dark Side
Has everybody lost their minds? I don't care I don't care I don't care... WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??? They're NOBODY!!! I was going along in my life just fine without ever hearing their names. I was happy! I was happy.
It's bad enough I have to go to the grocery store, and look at the magazines while I'm waiting near the checkout station, and see the most vile and repulsive fetish that is mainstream in America, which is the virtual stalking and voyeurism involving celebrities. People seem to worship these other people, and for no other reason than the fact that they have money. They don't even have to have any talent; look at Paris Hilton, look at Paris who the heck are you and why should I even care HILTON.
And it's not enough that this glorification of celebrities feeds upon itself and it becomes an industry, but the excruciatingly insignificant details about their lives, I have to know about this? Why should I care if some Hollywood actress that hasn't worked in a DECADE has decided to pass on her genes? Why? Why does that matter to me? Why does that matter to ANYONE that isn't her husband or family member or immediate friend? How does it affect your life at all? It's as natural as breathing or going to the bathroom.
And it doesn't stop there, now we have TWITTER so we can tell the whole world how our bowels are moving. Shape, color, size, consistency. Random idiotic thoughts. Broken English, atrocious spelling, revealing the vacuum of the human mind for all to be ashamed of. Your baby just spit up on the dog for the first time, HOO-RAY. I need to know this so I'll be better informed and better prepared.
But no, at least that garbage stays on some small forgotten corner of the internets where it belongs, where the nonsense of the brain rolls and collects in gutters, and only rarely does anyone say anything so dumb or controversial that it becomes news, and even then, I still don't CARE. But we can't have that, we can't be content with absolutely irrelevant mind-waste permeating the back rooms of our culture, it's gotta become NEWS.
So, we have Prince William, and Kate Middleton, and one of them has been unemployed most of her life, and the other was born into a strangely anachronistic family which enjoys public welfare while being extremely rich, royal titles even though they wield no real political power, and all they seemingly have to do in order to be beloved by the common folks is to smile and wave at the camera. Now here, take our tax money and spend it as you like. You're like a museum with people in it... a reality TV show gone horribly wrong.
It's interesting, because as entirely stupid as celebrity worship in America is, at least the celebrity in question usually has done a song or a movie people like, and have contributed in some way to the entertainment of the masses, or have produced a winning season in a sport, or otherwise done something.... anything.... but with royalty, their claim to fame is what? Being descendants of inbred mad tyrants?
Congratulations, you're famous because a long time ago, some people thought they were so much better than everyone else, that they would agree to only breed with each other, until they were all related, and their offspring would intermarry, and eventually, the children would come out of the womb looking rather odd. And being born into privilege gave you an attitude of unwarranted self-importance. But what's worse, is you sold this to ordinary people with common sense as something they should aspire to be, so that little girls would grow up wishing they were princesses, and dream of being married off and go live in a castle somewhere.
And not only did you sell it to the people, who should have known better, but also to the newspapers and television stations and media outlets all across the world, to make it seem like your very birth was some kind of important event, that your coming into being was something that changed the world in a positive way, and that your importance was somehow justified because generations before you were also famous, spoiled, and rich. You don't have to DO anything, you are born, handed fame and wealth, and adoring fans, and you didn't earn any of it. And, society has advanced to the point where it no longer needs a monarch, or a monarchy, or hereditary rule of any kind, so you're completely and entirely a drain on the society that seems to love you. Unlike the movie stars who at least produce movies once in a while, you sit there sipping tea and waving to the common folk, and that's your big contribution to society which warrants thinking of oneself as separate and better than everyone else?
Bunch of pampered bums. And in order to avoid hearing about this pointlessness, I have to turn off the radio, the TV, my computer, and sit in my house with the shades drawn, just to get away from it, AND I DON'T EVEN LIVE IN YOUR COUNTRY. I can't even make you go away by having another revolution, because you're not even my monarch anymore. I can't do anything except endure this pointless worship of people who offer nothing to society but unwarranted self-importance and a snotty condescending attitude coupled with adherence to medieval protocols.
Just get married, have a bunch of kids, and get a divorce after he cheats on her, already, I don't need to know all the details. I don't want to know about the dress, the cake, the bra size, the shape of the boil on his butt cheek, none of that appeals to me, and why should we be feeding the lewd interests of people who do care? Living vicariously through total strangers and deriving satisfaction from knowing intimate details of their lives, it's psychotic. I have people I admire, but never in my life have I wanted to know or care about details of their personal lives.
I don't understand it. Maybe other people have some sort of need for all this, that I'll never grasp. I always thought soap operas and dramas and other such made-for-TV entertainment was supposed to satisfy such base desires. Instead, it's celebrity voyeurism and it's taking up space in what should otherwise be news devoted to actual events of importance or note, such as the three wars my country is involved in, not counting the fourth one we're only unofficially involved in, and the others that are shaping up for whenever we get bored with the ones we have. No, and we can't have a national discussion about the gigantic financial collapse which we're still reeling from and have yet to recover from or put safeguards in place to prevent next time, and we have an entire country over here that suffered massive earthquakes, and another country over there which suffered several, and we have human rights abuses over here, and drug wars over there, and all kinds of really, really important events which have a place in our public discussion which are pushed to the side to talk about spoiled rich girl dresses.
Don't these people already have enough of our time and resources? Must they take up space in our public consciousness that should be reserved for stuff that actually.... you know.... MATTERS????
They.... don't.... matter!
And people who actually matter, like someone who freaking discovers the cure for a disease that plagues a million people in Africa, they don't matter. They don't get celebrated as much as Paris Hilton's new line of perfume, which you'll buy because it has a famous person's name on it, not because it's any good, and she's only famous because someone she's related to owns a bunch of hotels.
So let's sum up:
1. Discover cure for diseases = you're nobody important, who cares about you
2. Start a business and own hotels = you're rich and powerful.
3. Be born to someone who owns hotels = you're rich and famous and treated like royalty
4. Be nobody, and marry into a family that should be a bunch of nobodies, but gets handed riches from the taxpayer, and is treated like a celebrity, even though they've done nothing.... = OH MY GOD I NEED TO KNOW WHAT COLOR YOUR TOENAILS ARE, PLEASE POST PICS ON THE WEB!
What the heck is wrong with you people? Why do you celebrate unwarranted self-importance and totally ignore anyone in our society which contributes to the betterment of all mankind? Why are your priorities so completely, and utterly, and viciously backward? Why do you celebrate people who get rich by screwing consumers better than their competitors? Why do you celebrate people who get rich by being born into it? Why do you celebrate people who are rich because your tax dollars support their richness, and they still think they're better than you? Why do you celebrate an antiquated class system which places you at the very bottom and considers you little more than trash, or servants? Why do you like being ignored by representative governments and trampled on by corporate interests? Why do you care about total strangers who don't give a darn about you? Why do you celebrate greed, nepotism, corruption, decadence, and snobbery, and treat some of the most productive and brilliant members of our society like they are worthless garbage? Forgotten is how hard work and genius makes our world a better place, and how thankful we should be that someone figured out how to remove a tumor, or re-start a heart, or stop a plague, and remembered is who acted like the biggest twit on a reality television show filled with stupid twits!
You people drive me crazy, please tranquilize me until this Royal Wedding is finally freaking over! There's no way America should care this much about people who mean so little to ANYONE!!!! Not my country, I can't take it.
