Rat 41 CCM - AW a first attempt

Well I am sure I am in the dog house, but I finished. Will try to smooth feathers after I post. :D

Pre:
One problem with Rostov is it has no happy structures and is size 10. It has only two MP's, so it will need two jokers. If you drop to less than that, it will riot.

Moscow is on a diet as it only has 3 units and 2 are near dead and not defenders, so if any 3 or 4 pack could put real pressure on it and it is on the very front.

I worry a lot and so I hate to see so many packs of workers near the front with little protection and at the same time towns on the borders are very thin. Especialy in regards to defenders. Modena has two workers packs with a lone arq and the town has an Arq and 2 knights. We can see 4 knight that are not far away. I am just not that brave.

Uskudar also scares me with its closeness to Indo borders. It had an MDI and a musket and a stack of hidden units. One musket on the hill next to it. One knight, hope not much has gone on there lately.

The towns around Utica have only a lone knight.

Stack at Leptis Minor has 5 really banged up knights and a musket next to the town and many Indo units right close. The bad news is I do not see anything moving towards those areas to beef them up.

I use Yogi Bear to kill a redlined Indo knight (1-0). I move him further into the trees hope that is the safe direction.

IBT:
Egyptian knights attack the stack by Krasnoyarsk. One dies and the other retreat (1-0).
Pusan need a joker now.
Oea start a wall.
[2-0]

(1) 1635AD:
Oea shows a cannon, but the drop downs say Bombarde. I rename to not confuse me.
Rough start as it took 3 units to kill a Russian LB that enter Moscows mountain (1-0).
e/knight cleanly kills arq in Krasnoyarsk (2-0).
e/knight goes red, but kills pike and we have Kras and an extra 1107 gold (3-0).
Start a wall for right now.

*Enslave kills red Egyptian knight and gets a slave (4-0).
e/knight out of Padova kills Arabian spear or pike (5-0).

The word was to settle in the grass past Paova, done. Start a provisional wall.
The two new towns put us +19gpt.

Monk bombs Kras.
St Pete- bombarde kills arq, barely (6-0).
bombarde retreats from arq.
knight retreats from arq.
knight dies on arq (6-1).
Nampocat kills wounded arq (7-1).
knight kills last arq (8-1).
knight kills LB and we take city with a settler in it and 1869 gold (9-1).
Monk bombs it.

knight kills LB nearby (10-1).
knight kills another (11-1).
start Symbol.

"We have a crew of Workers next to Oea. We should pull them down to put a road from Aydin to the Sugar near Leptis Magna; that will help us transfer troops to the front."

Head them out as little around better to do, but it is a distance.

e/knight kills Russian 1hp knight by Kras (12-1).
knight kills LB next to it (13-1).

e/knight dies on MDI (Vike) next to Kras, it was ping by treb as it attacked (13-2).

2-stack by L Minor
3-Indo knights headed for Utica

e/knight retreats from arq.

e/knight kills pike (16-3).
knight kills pike (17-3).
e/knight kills the 1hp arq and we take the town and 1035 gold (18-3).
I saw a missionary die during capture and we get a slave (19-3).
Start Symbol.

I am not seeing much to rush right now. I rush a wall in newly founded town for 80. I rushed the Wat in Rostov for 120. The three places I would like to rush are in resistance. Rush the musket in Moscow for 120. Rush Wat in Smolensk for 164. Rush wall in Kras for 80. Wall in Oea. That is all that I see that is worth doing.
Most are 3 or less turns for build.
[21-3]

IBT:
Indo knight dies on Leptis Minor (1-0).
Indo knight dies on Utica (2-0).
Many Indo units approach Leptis Minor.

Kras is busy as 2 Zerks, Treb, MDI and an archer fail to kill any units (7-0).
[28-3]

e/knight dies on Vike sword (1-1).
*Enslave kills archer (2-1).
2/5 knight kills the 1hp sword (3-1).

I thought I was sending a legion to soften up a 5hp pike, but the bugger won cleanly (4-1) near newly founded town.
Knight retreats from Russian LB between St Pete and Moscow and e/knight kills it (5-1).
I get a monk to Leptis and bomb it. Need to locate some monks and get them to that front area. I guess the size 15 means we have the wall defense boost.

Found a monk and sent to L-Minor.
e/knight retreats from Firelance.
e/knight kills it (6-1).
e/knight kills LB (7-1).
e/knight kills knight (8-1). I have to leave 2 bombarde and a LB for lack of attackers.
They are mostly 2HP and the Indo units are 4hp. Worse another FireL is near and will probably cover them.
5 units close to L-Minor. L-Mag needs specialist.
[36-4]

IBT:
Not sure why, but the 2 bombarde and LB moved to flat ground next to L-Minor, but used all movement? The Fire guy pillaged, so they attackers are exposed.
Egyptian knight dies on Kras (1-0). [37-4]

(3) 1645AD:
Enslave kills redlined Egyptian knight (1-0).
e/knight kills vike spear by Udine (2-0).
Send out a knight to take a few points of an Arq that is past Kras, but the dummy actually killed it, who knew (3-0).

3/5 knight killed Egyptian knight by Kras (4-0).
Drop research to 30.

Cat dies on Arabian WE, thought it had it (4-1).
e/char kills Russian LB (5-1).
3/5 knight kills the 1hp Arabian WE (6-1).

Nampo-Treb the elite kills Egyptian knight by St Pete (7-1).

knight kills Bombarde and goes elite (11-1).
Rush a handful of strutures probabaly about 300 gold total.
[48-5]

Travesty at Hippo as Indo e/knight kills a musketeer and only lose 2hp (0-1).
Well I guess I have had a few go my way, still irks.
Almost forgot that FRANCE was destroyed some place by someone.
Carth lands LB by Hadrum.
[48-6]

(4) 1650AD:
Note please remember to rush two towns that will grow before the builds are done.
Start on Absolution.
Start Supreme Court in Rome. Would be nice to put elsewhere, but then next best site will take twice as long and we want those Lawyers.

*****
Absolution has a the Great Palace. It is like a second palace. The best place that could do it is probably Pisa. Will get a work crew there to mine a mountain soon. It nets 25spt. Wonder is 300. If we can get 3 more net we can save a turn. The best
we can do for a pre is 3 turns.
*****
I am not sure how, but I now see that a Vike MDI is damaged. Maybe they are at war with another? I am pretty sure it was not yellow before, guess a hidden unit maybe?

Ugh, e/knight dies on the 3/5 knight at Hippo (0-1).
e/knight kills it and it had a leader that is stubbed out (1-1). Where is mine?

e/knight kills the Carth LB (2-1).
Our only Yogi kills Indo LB (3-1).
Well now I send out an elite knight at L-Minor andit stages a come back (4-1).
The thing is that it never moved forward, so must be a hidden unit.
knight kills what ever was there (5-1).
e/knight kills the Firelancer fairly easily (6-1).

Istanbul needs a rush, but missed it so use a scientist for one turn.
Rush the temple at Izmit as it was two turns from growing and I do not want to miss that as well.

Bombarde kills Arabian e/WE and goes elite (7-1).
Nampo kill WE (8-1). Put musket to cover on the mountain. I want to stop having to attack units on the mountain anyway.

All units cleared form our borders save a 2 Viking units on an unroaded plains tile.
Wait CA says we have 4 units in ourt borders, but I cannot find them.
[55-7]

IBT:
Carth lands another LB.
Most Indo units turn around.

(5) 1655AD:
e/char kills Russian LB (1-0).
knight out of Utica kills the Carth LB (2-0).
Rush Musketeer in Oea as units from Carth and Indo near it. It has a cannon, e/knight and musketeer now.

e/knight kills knight (10-1).
e/knight kills knight (11-1).
4/5 knight dies on 2/5 WE (11-2). It was a *knight and I excpected to win and it would die on a counter. I leave the WE and send in as many knights as I can.
Monk bombs it.
Several muskets coming in next turn, but they have a few units that can attack.
Half the time they turn around and leave, who knows. I guess Indo was close to capturing the city, I did not even know it was there, just looking for one.

e/knight retreats from Arq at Yakutsk.
e/knight retreats.
knight kills one and goes elite (12-2).
knight kills last one (13-2).
We get 2 slaves and 1874 gold.
I saw a missionary next to town. It looked like Carthage.

I see we got a salt from this and that reminds me I never mentioned we got a salt from Battam. A FireLance cut that tile.

Lost a knight on the hidden unit (14-3).

Hidden units dies attacking Arabian WE and I see another attack on it.
I could not see where the attacker was, may be hidden or I was too slow.
[86-16]

Ok I plainly needed a break as I manage to lose the rest of my log form a cut and paste nightmare.

Will stop and eat and see what I can recall.

The only thing I wanted to pass on is that I have a Stupa for a Pre in Pisa for the Great Palace.

Am I in the twilight zone? I see from my screens that 1675 was my last turn. My log is not missing I just never played turn 8,9 and 10. Maybe I am losing it. My excuse it not eating. I stopped after the log was post to eat a sandwich at 930.

Yeah that is the ticket. Not losing my mind...

Anyway ThERat I am surely done for the night at this point, so you can either pick it up or I will finish in the AM.

Ah, I was just going to ask about that. ;)

Nice progress. :goodjob:

It's hard to know where the Great Palace should go in CCM, when corruption is so low anyway. But if we get a Leader, it couldn't hurt to put the GP farther from the capital than Pisa--perhaps in Utica, if there's no flip risk at that point.

nice progress :goodjob:

I will pick it up later, since tomorrow and Thursday are bad days for me to play. I would wait for a MGL to rush the Great palace. IIrc, the effects are not that overwhelming anyway. Maybe we should chose a coastal town for that so we can have some productive city to build those improvements.

Are Indochina and Carthage still fighting?

It is very hard to say. I never actually saw any combat bewtween them. Units would head for Carth towns and then turn for ours and next thing some would go the other way.

When I ran up onThrev they had a bunch of units next to the town and more close by, so I presumed they had some battles. May not be the case as you know the AI loves to sent units out of town right before some attack.

No idea idea why, but I have seen it at every level. I used to get mad when I did not want the town to fall to the other nation and boom they sent out a defender or two to who knows where.

Add in that right about that time all the boats came back to Genoa, I figued they made peace, just a guess though.

I keep thinking you can't rush Great wonders with MGL, but I never got one anyway. Yeah, if we can rush it then fine we only have a few turns in on the Stupa.

I would wait for a MGL to rush the Great palace. IIrc, the effects are not that overwhelming anyway.

Very true. In our previous game it was hard to tell if the GP was doing anything at all.

vmxa said:

We can't, but the Great Palace is a Small Wonder--just this mod's FP. You may be remembering that we had some discussion of what Great Wonder to Leader-rush in the last game, but that was a rare SGL from discovering a tech first.

You say that to me after I cannot even remember how many turns I have played. lol

I was thinking it was a great wonder, but it was the Arc that is the great wonder in that tech. The Arc won't be in this game as the French are the only ones that can build it.

Anyway the only reason I was anxious to built it was I thought it was a Great wonder and wanted to deny it to the AI.

AFAWK Carthage is OCC and Russia has only two cities left. It will be good to remove their boats, if nothing else. The problem of Carthage is the town is off behind Oea and sort of out of the path of the way we want to head for Indo.

Pre turn
MM a bit, generally I think unless happiness is an issue, we should get those shield improvements up first
rush windmill in Rusicade (was almost done anyway)
change Pisa to market, Smolensk gets a temple

set starving Carthage cities on full scientists, reduce science to 40% and we make 246gpt

[58-8]

IT we do lose another musket to a knight at Kampong Cham
we finally get the supreme court, Mayan finish Taj Mahal

Turn 5 - 1700AD
set Rome on one turn muskets as everything else would be simply a waste
I spotted 2 firelancer and 2 Lb enter Saigon, I am not going to attack this turn
bring in a few more hussars
defeat 2 stray knights

defeat one Egyptian knight

[61-9]

IT for once we retreat a knight at Kampong Cham

Turn 6 - 1702AD
reduce science to 30%, we make 400gpt

rat411700c.jpg

defeat a stray Arab unit, rush some stuff in Russia to prepare for the Mongols that seem to have their
borders right next to us

clear 3 units at the Indochina borders

[72-16]

IT we lose the usual unit at Kampong Cham, no Mongol units though
we get Mil trad, clockworks next

Turn 8 - 1706AD
defeat 5 Indochinese units in our land
take out 3 Egyptians near St Peter

short rush some more stuff, make sure we do not mistakenly build regular units now that castles
are obsolete. Rome is on 2 turn cavalry now
send an enslaver out to spy on Mongols

[80-16]

IT I don't know whether to cry of laugh, we lose another unit in Kampong Cham

Turn 9 - 1708AD
defeat 5 units at Indochina and get a MGL, will rush the military academy in Carthage

capture Udon without losses after taking out 2 firelancer and 1 LB
take out 3 units next to Yakutsk

take out 8 Viking units (lose one hussar) to clear the mountain area so our settler can move there next few turns
we hav a roading crew there as well

[114-22]

Science is at 20%. all has been MM for that, we get clockworks next turn. I would go for PP before
heading for the lower part of the tech tree to gain East India Company.

We are having quite a bit of money and research is not costing us money at 70% currently (we would make 31gpt)
Mongols do have money but I would await their first big stacks before countering. In fact i would try and take out Indochina first
before heading south.

We obviously want to get Angkor sooner or later but the capital is always heavily defended and I think we need more cavalry for that.
Taking smaller towns will weaken them and gain us more gpt.

CommandoBob - still in this game?
Northern Pike - on deck or up

Elephantium

A few more things.

Milan is set to grow rather than 3 turn cavalry. In any way, we will get clock towers next turn and might insert them every now and then in certain cities to increase shields.

We have a road crew near Iznik, we should use it to connect Genoa with the north through the mountains to cut our supply routes a lot.

A great start against the Siamese.

So the Greeks were quite close to us, for a civ who never made contact before they were wiped out.

The good thing is that Mongols fought Greece and at least spent their initial units, hence we don't have to fear a monster stack, but with 18 cities, they will threaten us enough to be prepared for a solid defense.

Still in the game; just a bit quiet at the moment.

I'll look at the game when I get home.

Nearly 40k, guess we will not have to worry about cash for some time with Khan to help us out.

Very surprise to see you only get one MGL after I got none. I had about 50 elite wins and I would bet you had a lot, so we have a bunch of MGL's coming. I was thinking that we should upgrade any unit, regardless of elite status, especially that lone chariot.

I would rather have the extra power and they will be elites soon anyway, plus leaders are not the big deal they normally are.

I had 2 MGLs one for the Great Palace, the other used to rush Mil Academy in Carthage.

We must remember this as there are several builds coming up later on that can only be built in the Mil Academy city.
Now that we have that, the chances of leaders appearing is higher. (guess from 1/16 up to 1/12). Yes, I had plenty of elite wins. I agree to upgrade units but we have almost done so, the chariot was lost in an attack anyway.

@CommandoBob. Please do read the strategies carefully. It is easy to lose units if you don't play the optimum way here. For example, the best way to use cannons/trebs etc is to attack those high defense slow units. As they are considered fast units as long as they are on roads, they might retreat. If cannons hit an 'unroaded' tile, they lose their movement points. Be careful about that please.

We do have muskets at 6/6 which could also be used to attack weak offenders like LBs etc. I just did that in the last turn.

I played 11 turns to even out things, I think we are at 225 turns, please feel free to play 5 or 10 as things can get more draggy right now. I rather someone plays 5 turns and doesn't rush through them than 10 rushed turns. Things are not as straight forward as with armies.
Do judge our monetary situation and short rush accordingly. I left those high production cities alone and rushed mainly in growing cities. Our new founded cities in the south are growing healthily and need support.

At this point, I would also be careful with slavery as it gets obsolete with enlightenment, which we will get in the not so distant future. We can build town clocks instead and windmills.

Lastly about research. I hope I do not enforce my opinion on others, but I would take Printing Press (for the libraries) and then head for the naval bottom part of the tech tree. techs are relatively cheap there and we should be able to sustain 4 turn research for quite a while.

With the 4th naval tech there is a wonder called East India Company which grants an extra commerce for a city. If we have a shot at it, we should select a city that can produce this wonder in reasonable time and really gain from it. Maybe a city near Rome would be good for that or even Carthage (if it is coastal, I forgot)
