There's also a downside to founding loads of religions. Say you found 4 or 5 (easy enough in most Noble games). It will spread to your neighbours. They will adopt different religions. Which one do you choose? Or do you plump for 'No State Religion' and forego the benefits of Theocracy, Organized Religion, and/or the Spiral Minaret?

I would say that's only a consideration if you're looking to make strong diplomacy/relationships part of your gameplan. If you're planning on :hammer: :ar15: :nuke:, might not need to worry about the adopted religion ...

of course, I could be misunderstanding your point, always a possibility :crazyeye:

Nope, point understood quite well enough :D Although it becomes an issue if you :hammer: your way across your own continent, then want to foster friendly relations with another one or more continents - trans-continental religion spreading isn't an easy to thing to accomplish when you can't even get open borders in the first place!

Looks like closed borders are not an effective prophylactic against the spread of faith.

I never said they were. Theocracy is the prophylactic.

Diplo's easy. Just get a ton of population ... domination wins without the land requirement.

Back Door Domination(TM). I would have preferred to see that possibility closed (had some ideas in that direction) but we went with what you see. :crazyeye:

Winning Diplomacy through the front door, via actual diplomacy, rather than via beating down the opposition, is not so easy, though. :)

Back Door Domination(TM)

Not quite how I did it the one time I won, but relatively close (I had one ally and combined we had enough votes) -- and I'd've had the votes if I wanted them. I'd like to see 2/3 of population and >1/2 of remaining nations required or something like that. Would require some actual diplomacy, too. I wonder how easy that will be to mod.....

Actually from a point of view of 'Ok, I've won the game, the rest is just mop-up/slog,' having a MOO1-style Back Door Domination win in there is probably not a bad thing.

Lately I've not been trying to found my own religions. I wait until a neighbor's religion spreads to my cities, then I convert, build a monastary, and spread the religion through the rest of my civilization.

I get good relations with my neighbor and I get the happiness/culture/production bonuses for having a religion. Unfortunately, you don't get the huge shrine income. But that money is going to a friend instead of an enemy.

Of course, my secret shame is that once I've built up a good sized army, I'll go "liberate" my religion's holy city.

 That gives me an idea for BGZ02 :mischief: :mischief:

Well, the simplest solution IMO is just to cap the number of votes any one player can have. For instance, say that no player can have more than 30% of the total votes. That way, you always have to have friends to win, and if you've alienated absolutely everyone you can still lose. Or, simply state that the #1 player always drops to the number of votes of the #2 player, which is probably easier to code.

95 turns left! I expect most of India to be taken out by the end of the next 10 turns. :hammer: :satan: :hammer:

Most of India? Within ten turns?!? Sulla and his wild and crazy expectations. :crazyeye: Clearly that must have been a typo.

I'm almost done playing this round. I should have something up momentarily.

(DISCLAIMER! Blah blah the term "momentarily" blah blah.)

Thirteen core cities were unhappy, now it's only one. (Calcutta isn't in Cuba).

Also, we don't want no steekin Indians "horsing around" with our workers.

rb1-319.jpg

So I moved that infantry unit in to block the road.
Their Cavs can try to pass a guarded road if the punks are feeling lucky today.

(Don't think the AI won't go for your workers!)
(They might leave one alone, fearing that it is bait.)
(But a whole stack? Who are actually building stuff?)

Logistics, logistics, logistics.

This completes my zeroeth turn. :D

C*U*B*A VICTORY!

Sulla has set a high-reaching goal for us, you slackers. KEEP MOVING!

1958AD: Lots of marching.

Oh, hey, what's this sailing in to our waters? Let's clean that up right quick.

rb1-326.jpg

Oh. That's a B-ship. ... I see. Uh... Hmm. Well...

IBT 1958AD: *brain fart*

Oops. I should have let him have the Fishing Nets and moved the Tin Can in to harbor for safe keeping.

Instead, I stare blankly at the screen :smoke: [pimp] as they shoot holes in our sentry...

rb1-327.jpg

...and proceed to rip up the Fishing Nets anyway! :crazyeye:

rb1-328.jpg

Next time that happens, somebody plz whack me upside the head, OK?

Of course, I'm not the only fool who fried his brain on the nasty, on this turn.

STUPID AI! (Soren you watching this?)
Take your victory, and this lone wolf unit, and run HOME with your smoking, barely floating hulk!

But no. They charge forward to meet Tin Can v2.0!

I just sat here for several hours and read this thread straight through from post one.

I'd sort of assumed (from the length) that it was complete.

So now I'm going to sit here until you win.

4 Str left! FOUR! Out of FORTY!

This is why I leave my City Raider tanks unpromoted on approach.
City Raider line offers zero help on defense, so...
There's no use promoting until you first reach attack position!
Since each promotion heals a unit halfway to healthy...
THREE promotions will remove 87.5% of the damage just inflicted.

Then it was my turn. :groucho:

Air power is nigh on to useless by itself.

Combine it with ground forces in a coordinated Combined-Arms offensive, however...

They have so many defenders that, despite the bloodbath, they hold off our forces.
For now.

THE BATTLE OF DELHI

On the southern end of the front, our position is stronger, and theirs... isn't.
