Good point. We'll probably only get as far as Mach, CS, Feud/Paper, etc though.

So, what do people prefer:

1) Mach - CS - Paper - Feud - Guilds- Banking = 3800 beakers

2) Mach - CS - Feud - Guilds - Banking = 3200 beakers

3) Mach - CS - Paper - Edu - Lib = 3800

4) Mach - CS - Feud - Paper- Guilds - Banking = 3800

EDIT: X-Post, Yeah, I made it bold so that the poor little one liner comment didn't get run over by the huge posts

EDIT 2: Option 4 just added

I think that I favor Path 2, with this exception: Stop after Guilds to assess our situation to see if we should proceed to Banking, or divert to another path.

We also need to think about what trades we can make. I don't think that we are going to catch up all by ourselves.

It looks like I'm going to be far outnumbered, and everybody hasn't even voted yet! For now, it'll be

Mach - CS - Feud - Guilds - <Make sure Banking is what we need> - Banking

If there's a large enough group that opposes this, then we'll reconsider.

Whosit brings up the good point of tech trades. How should that go?

EDIT: I can't find the tech trading screen. It would be nice if LH starting making a collection of links to the screens on the front page, like 500 AD - Foreign Relations - Linky

Ah, yes, had to refresh on that, myself. Looks very bad, actually. Only Asoka is willing to trade (Julius is listed simply because we are at war, and we will have self-researched Machinery soon, anyway), but we don't want to deal with him because he is the tech leader. We need to improve the attitudes of the Vikings and Carthage because we can trade them Theology. Seems like even if we find people willing to trade, we don't have anything to offer. So no real deals (though the page scrolls down a bit, but I imagine we'll find the same story there).

If we're winning on the war, what's Julius willing to give us in return for peace?

Other than our hopes of that, we're doomed, like Whosit said.

We're not doomed, we're just in a sticky situation. We'll have to play smart, tech wisely, and choose our friends and enemies carefully. Right now, we should tech what we need, but if we can improve AI attitudes so that they will trade techs with us (actually, it would be helpful if LH could go in and see the reason the AIs are resistant to trading), we may want to consider researching things that the AI tends to avoid, just for trade fodder.

I think we should have papoer before fued, so option !1! is what i vote for, although i dislike the use of votes. Like i have said before, reguardless of the rules, the president should be the one to make the decision not the people. This is a representative democracy. Dont elect MN if he isnt going to do what you want him to. Well that was badly phrased, but i dont feel like retyping it.

Guys why would we make peace for christ's sake??? It makes no sense.

Dommy you just voted for oppoosities...a commie party and a FAR right wing one. One that gives right wingers a bad name in my opiniuoin, but thats me.

Call commies left wings if you're going to call right wing right wing.

Why we would make peace? The question you should be asking is why we wouldn't make peace.

Most people agreed to take Neopolis and Cumae, then make peace, and probably demand something for peace.

You're right, that was rather badly phrased. But, seriously, where do you get off saying what the President can or can't do? You keep telling us that the President can do his job however he likes, so if the President wants to poll public opinion before making a decision, there's no problem with that by your logic, correct?

There are a few reasons.

1) Taking new cities adds new costs to the empire. Expanding/conquering rapidly and without planning leads to a stagnated economy. This is the price of maintenance for cities and units.

2) Every turn we are at war and building units is a turn we could be building something else at peace.

3) Following from 1 and 2, war should be pursued for specific objectives. Our original objective was to survive, but then we realized that Rome was weaker than we thought. Yet if we let that go to our heads, we may continue to wage war longer than is beneficial.

We have determined that we have fallen behind technologically. Therefore, we are likely to be best served by taking the prime economic real estate from Rome and leaving the rest for a later date. We can always keep an eye on Russia's progress and take the rest of Rome if they look like they will overwhelm Rome, or, at worst, try to pay Russia to make peace with Rome.

The Imperial Party may favor war the most among the tool in our nation's toolbox, but war without purpose is a grievous misuse of that tool.

Preferably techs.

I'm still wondering why I just won't join Imperial.

I like the power of a party leader. Yeah, that's it.

Problem is, Rome doesn't have any techs to give us other than Mach, which we'll finish in 4 turns. Hopefully, while we're busy taking Neopolis and Cumae, Rome will finish teching something powerful that they will be willing to give to us.
