Realpolitik CIV - An Interactive AAR

I'll provide the information, but I'm being swept away by this - every time I step in this thread and notice how long it is, how long it's been here and that it almost never leaves the top slot . . . the thought hits me that I've established myself as a major forum identity(I know, pompous!) and I want to go hide under the bed.

See my sig.

So, back on-topic, I have 4 solutions to The Battle of Ravus-York(since this is still technically arya's term he decides which).

- Just fight it out like we have been
- Small-scale CIV battle with many little French towns and strategic terrain
- Narrative battle, like with the Night Eagles(but more awesome
- Fight it out against two hards in Battle for Middle-Earth II as the Men of the West

Use Rome: Total War for it, it's the awesome for battle simulations!

EDIT:
BTW, inflation and the financial shenanigans are why I don't particularly like CIV.

Just always do the most research possible, research financial techs, get civics that are better for the economy (e.g. SP) and don't REX so much!

Elections

Elections Status:

Party Tallies:
Imperial Party: 3
People's Consortium of England: 1
Stonehenge Monks: 3
Technocratic Party: 2
Liberal Marxist Party: 1
Green Party of England and Wales: 1
Faith and Strength Party: 3

Coalition Tallies:

Aegis(Imperial/Consortium) - 4
Green Philosophers(Green Party/Technocratic) - 3

If Aegis is dissatisfied with their color they should inform me.:goodjob:

Elections will last, as usual, until Tuesday. However, the Romans may make a move during the elections, as war is inherently unpredictable.

EDIT: Presidential candidates???

Hey, we're not doing so bad after all!

Anyway, I think we should do the narrative battle. So much more fun to read, don't you agree!

I would personally like to see a civ battle, but narrative comes for a close second.

I've played games with Speaker, sunrise, and the legendary, voting for whatever side I'm on Whosit before.

Heyyyy. You're making fun of me, aren't you?

I don't have any problems with blue. I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple members of Aegis on who our candidate will be, but we should be ready to announce it later today. It's going to be either Ilduce or myself, so maybe that helps to narrow it down?

Though I realize it will be arya's decision, I feel like handling the battle any way besides in-game is cheating, since this is not a special event. On the other hand, I'm one of those people who won't reload a save to get out of a bad situation. (Many months ago, when I was young, I learned the hard way why I shouldn't spam religions as Charlemagne when on a small island with Ragnar as my neighbor. Elimination.) I also realize that fighting it out in Civ means we are going to take some nasty losses.

Yeah, my two-gold.

But then again, keep in mind that the whole adding things in WB thing is "cheating" as well. So we can't really make that argument.

I never said that wasn't cheating. I know LH moved our Iberian cities, which was very nice of him, but I would have lived with the poorer placement if I had to. Anyway, just because it's been done before doesn't mean it has to become a habit.

Personally, even if we lose all of our continental assets, I think that it would be possible to make a comeback, but it would be quite difficult.

On Lighthearters growing powers
Perhaps have a deputy? This is a lot for one person as has been easily noticable for awhile. I'm sure it isn't written in stone that it has to be run by one person. Even if your deputy/second doesn't handle the save just someone to keep track of everything and provide a second voice of AUTHORITY would probably ease some of the burden.

I know Nukeknockout probably keeps you informed of anything you miss and he doesn't but he's a player not a VOICE OF AUTHORITY so... yeah.

I've allways thought if someone ever seemed to be in the final stages of starting a third Realpolitik i'd caution them to have one person handle the save and rules and one to handle the story and political drama :p

On the War
Wow, well we still havn't seen a screen-shot but your words are pretty much condemning our chances... ouch indeed. As has been said in the end it would be Arya's last choice as leader.

Personally though i'd treat it like gambling. If we go for an easier option, wether a smaller scale terrain battle or narrative battle (didn't understand the last option) then the risk for loosing could be greater.

For example, in a narrative, Arya could call ALL of Ravus-york to raise up arms, thus providing an army but risking the whole city. If we failed the city would be too small for Rome to keep and it would be razed. Thus the risk.

Stratigically could be useful to yourself but i'm unsure what our debt would be for failure. Perhaps the Romans wish to destroy the holy city and would hold the city but burn all the Christians? Thus a Crusade against us.

Well i'm sure people get the idea... If we make it easier we should risk more for our losses if we end up loosing anyway.

On the Financial Crisis
This is of our own devising not yours. We are not in a position for war but we have to anyway. Not even a nice move for veteren players. If we were at peace we would be going for currency for it's extra trade routes and the ability to build a market in the holy city to best take advantage of that +1 gold per religious city trait when it comes online. (perhaps a money wonder like the collosus as well)

Pillaging should help us untill we get there. By my count it should be 20 turns till the Great Prophet pops (i could be wrong). We should send a un-used galley to search for peaceful civ cities (we have to see them to be able to trade with them). Currency should be prioritised in trade asap as once we get it we can trade gold for our useless back techs. And has been mentioned civics help.

No, that is 4 days. Sometime tomorow you will be able to PM. Ill PM you then.

EDIT: this was to JMUG. Ill wait for some more opinions before i make a decision on the battle. Im inclined to the thrid option, but thats just because i love the game.

Sorry; my last post got messed up somehow.

From the Book of Monks Meditating Musings

If you could only support one war plan what would you support?
A strong defensive army, combined with cavalry (if we have it) to flank enemy catapults.

When is the earlist you would accept peace from Rome?
I would accept a white peace. I would not, however, accept any peace in which we would have to pay reperations (unless the situation is truly dire; wouldn't give away a city though)

Who would you want to nurse most as an ally in foriegn affairs?
Probably the Vikings or the Egyptians/Carthaginians.

If Rome marched a nearly unbeatable army into french lands what would you do?
If they're going to take it, make them pay dearly for every tile they take.

What would be Englands next world wonder if you had the choice?
If we can build it, The Great Library.

What do you think is the nations best decision so far?
Expand quickly into Iberia to claim those resources.

What do you think is the nations worst decision so far?
Not build up Iberia's infrastructure and neglecting our military.

Do you support a leader having advisors or ministers?
Mostly agree with Arya. The President/Prime Minister should have the final say on any action, but have advisors to help him/her/it craft those actions.

Also LH, you haven't added the SHM's emblem to the main page.

And what about saneperson? Isn't he still in the Modernizational?

Hmm...rather a lot to take in at one go...

I say Civ battle. I (no offense to LH) don't like the narrative ones, as they depend too much on fabrication (unless of course, we get to dictate our plans, like with the Night Eagles); but Civ battle just sounds cooler.

I advocate fighting a defensive war. We really don't have enough army to go on the offensive. Wait, how's Rome's naval situation? Because that'll help with my war planning...

Yeah, Aegis is basically turning into a triumvirate at the moment; but it's going to be either ilduce or whosit (barring drastic circumstances).

If we lose France, it's going to be awfully hard to take back; but I agree with Sonereal, it'll be an even larger catastrophe if we lose Iberia.

Personally, I'd make peace with Caesar at the moment when he isn't demanding cities, >half our treasury, and >3techs. Of course the techs will be on a case-by-case basis...

So that's my two pence on the situation.

I'd rather go down swinging instead of rolling over.

No peace that requires anything but gold.

So did the Germanic tribes when Rome challenged them. Wonder how that worked out for them. Of course, since you're one of those politicians yet to leave his office from London, you wouldn't know about the hardships of your fellow Englishman in Iberia and how much worst it will get.

Peace ASAP. We will not bloody Rome's nose. Antium is a fortress. Taking Rome is out of the deck as well.

Sabotage!! One of the fishing fleets outside London has been wrecked by a group of raiders who vanished into the foggy night before anyone could catch up to them. This is believed to be a political sabotage, not one spearheaded by Rome.

No evidence has yet surfaced to lead to the perpetrator.
