On a no questions asked basis, where you do not know the nature of the conflict or what it's about, pick which one you'd rather be; A Rebel or a Revolutionist.

Revolutionist strikes me as preferable as it does not necessarily require armed conflict.

More interpretations:

Rebel

Lech Walesa was a revolutionist
eh. the backers of the Ayatollah Khomeini were rebels

this is sorta hard..

Revolutionist. Being called a rebel makes you sound like you are a 15 year old communist living with your parents.

Well, IMO both terms are awarded after the uprising:
Rebels fight against the system, and lose. The system remains in power, and labels them rebels.

Revolutionaries fight against the system, and win. The newly-liberated populace christens them revolutionaries.

Given that distinction, I'd have to go with revolutionary.

Integral

That estimation is in error.

revolutionary; A radical supporter of political or social revolution

rebel; A person who takes part in an armed rebellion against the constituted authority (especially in the hope of improving conditions)

I would rather be a revolutionary because I want my movement's purpose to echo and reverberate, even if/after I die
