Religion-only restrictions

Then, as an atheist, he should be smart enough to know that there are many different forms.
Since he qualified his statement with "most (some?)" I think he's perfectly aware.

There's even a implied question in there for Christians to respond to.

Don't most Christians believe there's a God who constantly observes and judges you?

He, as an atheist is smart enough to not make absolute blanket statements about Christians and he as an atheist is humble enough to leave room for correction. He as an atheist shows a lot of characteristics I think Mr. Christ himself would approve of.

I don't think Sir Christ would approve of the swift unsupported judgement he as an atheist got.

I always thought the wonderful thing about our God was that he doesn't judge you; he knows you're human, and he knows people are a bit useless really, but he still loves us and forgives us when we screw up.

I think you are really misunderstanding what not judging means... but it's a moot point.

A perfect example of an atheist not understanding the faith...

It's what was taught to me in Catholic school.

I wasn't sure if it applied to all catholics, some, or all Christians. Either way what I said wasn't incorrect, unless what I was taught by members of the faith was lies

The RCC is one of the most rigid examples of Christianity... and vastly different from what most Protestants believe in (if we can even lump Protestants together beyond having huge disagreements with the Papists).

Yeah, but there's over 1.1 billion catholics. That's more than half of all Christians.

That table suggests that 27 million people worldwide do not subscribe to a Trinitarian view of God. That's a lot of people.

Really? I, as a Catholic, believe in evolution and gay rights, believe that God is all-forgiving, and also believe that outside of Church religion is a private matter.

Of course, we all vary, but I would not describe all Catholics as "rigid".

I didn't describe any individuals.
I described official dogma/doctrine of the RCC, as prescribed by Rome/Pope, the hiearchical head of the denomination.

hum. I am an atheist now but i grew up in a muslim family. I think what most muslims I know would love to do if it wern't forbidden by allah would be:

1. all the sex/flirting restriction before marriage (although they won't always admit it)
2. not drinking in Ramadan. not eating is not reallty hard at all
3. not trying alcohol, i don't know if many will like it, but i am sure many would love to taste it.

Now about porc, i don't know any muslim that is really bothered about not eating pork. they think it's "beurk" tha way Western think about rats, and I don't know of any westerner who is bothered about not eating rats.

oh and food restrictions, contrary to what my muslim, jewish and christians friends tell me have no other justification but the "we need to be different" from the rest logic. there some kind of fish that is "kosher" and other that is not, if it was about "health" as many try to justify, the restriction would be different.

Excuse me, you're talking about bacon here

To be honest, I never understood all the fuss people make about bacon. Ham, like the so called "Ham of Bayonne" in France or even better: the Bellota of Spain (the rolls of ham) are tons tastier than bacon, which is too fat.
Now when there are no "super ham" around, i 'd bite the bacon ;)
