Came up in staff, thought I'd see what y'all think about it. Currently we archive/close threads at 1000 posts and the next 'version' of the thread is allowed to be created.

What would you think about doing away with that rule? So that once a thread is started it goes until it dies a natural death? Or should we keep it around?

Discuss. :)

It doesn't matter if the post is in a forum with no postcount. Is this a spam thread?

I thought once a thread started getting ridiculously large it would cause database problems?

This.

This thread is a spam thread! A moderator started a spam thread!!!! :woohoo:

------------------------------

But anyway, I say don't do away with it. It's good for the serial threads.

Postcounts show up fine for me. I'm not sure why everyone is saying them do not.

Me too. But this is a no postcount forum, until they decide they have had enough of the lame joke ;)

No-one cares. See: the postcount OT forum. The only active topic there is the one moaning about the change. No new threads...

How do we know a thread has reached 1,000 posts in this forum?

Same way you do in every other forum. :p

I'm in favor of keeping the tradition of starting a new thread at 1K as well.

Your post is 11.

I assume that they are not going to remove that as well. I hope I am not giving them ideas.:(:(

Bring back the PC for this segment of OT, then we'll discuss.

Frankly, there is no point in upholding the rule in a non-PC forum.

The issue is not postcounts not showing up, but postcounts not being incremented by 1 when clicking 'submit reply'.

Almost nobody is complaining about missing a few stupid numbers under their avatar, good job on missing the points entirely.

If the database is no longer an issue. Then I think some threads should maybe keep going, and other be archived. There's no gain to "Many Questions" being kept active. There is to "Cool Pics" and "Ask A Professional".
