I created this in the phases were i can not think to distract myself. it is very much a work in progress and i do not even know if anyone wants this.

it is a rework of the existing terrain textures, i started with the hell terrain since it will give me the biggest headaches. The textures have the same size, but look a bit more sharp also they are seamless (not all existing textures were before).

I will still have to make them more diverse. in the screenshot below are the two new versions of the broken lands and burning sands:

tesb,

great work, keep it up dude! :goodjob:

i am not satisfied myself, will make the broken lands a bit brighter, but with more red fissures.
i will redo fields of perdition, since i like the original more.
the burning sands will stay as of now.

Great job tesb!

I know this is more of a coding issue than graphics, but I would like to see a return of burnt forest in hell terrain. It was in FFH in a much earlier version. When hell overtook forest, ancient forest, or jungle, you still had burnt forest on the tile (no bonus and it never upgrades, of course). It's purely aesthetic, but it was nice to see some evidence of that once great elven forest in land that is now ruined.

i agree with the forest issue, but sadly i can't help with that

here is the current version, i added skulls back to the fields of perdition. i have two version at the moment one with the red undertone in the picture and one is pure bones.

any suggestion/ constructive criticism is welcome, as always :)

Big fan of the burning sands. That looks Looks like a slightly cooled magma flow that could be walkable but still burst into flaming death at any moment. It certainly blends in with the rest of the hell terrain better then the old one.

Hmm...

Could it be used around volcanoes to mimic lava flow?

the problem is that burning sands spawn fire features and volcanoes are a feature themselves, so if you place a volcano on top of a burning sand tile it will eventually be replaced with fire.

I have redone the broken lands a bit and i think i won't change the fields of perdition. the original textures are awesome themselves. i will upload the files tomorrow.

Is there any way to make fires on different tiles blend together better? It would be cool if burning sands looked more like a continuous field of fire, rather than a separate fire on each tile (which makes the map grid too obvious). Maybe just make the fire feature a little bigger so it overlaps a little with the fire on the next tile?

ok here are the files:

brokenlands.dds
and
burningsands.dds

(replaces: brokenlandsblend.dds, brokenlandsgrids.dds, burniningsandsblend.dds and burningsandsgrids.dds)

looking great tesb, keep up the good work :goodjob:

That's some nice hell terrain!

I think I agree the skulls are "a bit much", that'd be very busy looking on vast swathes of map. I do wonder though if that mightn't be an interesting texture to have used in some other context. Maybe some crazy field of skulls with unique bonus/malus pops up due to an event choice, or an evil ritual or wonder turns a fat cross of the host city into that bony look for some particular benefit, maybe even a Unique Landmark type of thing could pop up due to some mechanic in the late game. Maybe at AC 40 or 80 or some other time, the "playground of the dead" appears, like an un-razeable big fat Necropolis that constantly spews Spectres, not to be too repetitive of the random pop ups of "Hellfire" spawning demon champs. Maybe a Death III / Entropy III spell about creating some nasty undead Nexus, that an Archmage could "plant" wherever they wanted as a kind of super barrow, un-razeable / un-explorable. *shrugs*

Again, I guess it's a pretty texture that it would be fun to use somewhere, somehow. Just not as a huge carpet blanketing the world, that'd be some eyestrain!
