There are a lot of Somalis in my old home state but I never heard of any of them ever trying to get the state government to practice sharia law or any of that. Other Muslims I've seen just kind of kept to themselves. So what's the deal with all of these stories coming out of Europe about it?

I'm wondering if there might not be some 'familiarity breeds contempt' thing going on. Rather than a real problem, there's a perception of a problem because the group is well known, and disliked for other reasons.

The US is less Islamophobic than Europe, considering the US goes to great pains the distinguish terrorists from Islam itself, whereas it is highly attractive in Europe to blame Islam itself.

That depends on which segment of the US population you're talking about. And that may be true in Europe as well, just the difference being that Europe has it more on the surface.

Have you seen what goes on in countries that are ruled by Sharia? I doubt you would not want to go to a country like that.

Now, I should make it clear that not all Islamic leaders hold the points of view mentioned above. As the Islamic Council of Victoria's submission to the federal inquiry states: "The overwhelming majority of Australian Muslims want nothing more than to get on with their lives and make meaningful contributions to this wonderful country."

Most Australians want the same thing. Most of us support multiculturalism and cultural diversity because we recognise the benefits of living in a vibrant, diverse society enriched by people from many cultures.

So even by the standards of right-wing sensationalists, Classical Hero is on the fringe.

Sharia has no foothold in the US, and never will. So it will never be an issue. It would take about 3/4 of the national population to be devout Muslims before it could even come up for a vote.

It depends on the sects of Islam. See the conflicts between Sharia Aceh and Non-Sharia Jakarta. Do you think that Indonesian government is ruled by pseudo-Muslims?

To push a claim of Sharia law, you need:

1) Enough Muslims
2) Right sect of Islam
3) Enough political power to push the claim

Now you think this is an easy job... Yes, the Sharia Law triumphs in Aceh and Northern Nigeria, but that's the best they can do for now. A Sharia Europe is much more difficult to achieve than an Arabian Europe or a Muslim Europe.

Quite a historical reason for positive correlation between xenophobia and anti-semitism. However, modern European xenophobia has somewhat evolved to be more against Arabs and Muslims immigrants, rather than Jewish population. Those anti-semite, classical fascists or Nazi sympathizers really need to catch up with time to see the hordes of Muslims Immigration from Middle East, and it is the very Jewish state, Israel, that fights against Middle East Arabian regimes.
