PLease not apologies if this was posted, given this was announced during the downtime with the server and given there's no thread about I am making the assumption nobody brought it up

But for those curious BERT is getting released late OCTOBER and AFTER The Firaxcon since one of the "attractions" is gettings hands on with the game before it's released.

So there's that. That seems a long way for an expansion pack.

Has it always been such a huge gap? I remember BNW being announced in March and getting released in June (or July?)

Remember that between the releases of Gods and kings and BNW there was exactly 1 year. Now it is not surprising that between BE and BERT there is also exactly 1 year in between, I think...

The thing is they didn't announce the Expansion Pack a year before it's release.

When was BERT announced and when is it getting released compared to G&K and BNW being announced and getting released.

I think BERT still wins in that regard.

I am curious to know if BERT will save BE.

You must note that aren't getting that minor DLC with BE , other than the exoplanets thing. I am curious if they will release more if BE becomes more popular.

The early LP's that we've seen were very incomplete and buggy. I am in no rush for Rising Tide. Firaxis can take an extra month if they need to. I want them to get it right. :)

i dont think it will be too late in October because [i think anyway] releasing it to close to X-COM2 -another Firaxes game just seems stupid just my opinion of course i could be wrong

well many critics of Civ V claimed that the game was crap or civ IV was better, and those statements were true atleast somewhat civ4 complete was better than vanilla civ V

BE Vanilla is better than Civ V vanilla IMO, but is it better than civ V complete? of course not.
in short i believe it will be a worthy addition to the franchise when it is COMPLETE.

Beyond Earth flopped. nobody even plays it (max about 2k, compared to Civ 5's 30k).

Given it's a spin-off it also probably loses a good portion of fanbase since it's not a simulation about civilizations as much as it is .. whatever you would call this (planet colonization?)

And to be frank BE Vanilla is almost the same as Civ 5 vanilla without the trade routes and espionage, literally that's just what's missing in Civ 5 vanilla.

Ok let's be honest, the game may or may not be good depending on your views on the matter, but it did not 'flop'. If the game lost money or even only made a small profit, there is no way we would be getting an expansion, 2K Games is a business and they would not invest money in post launch support for a game that 'flopped', let alone a full on expansion.

you forgot it has a 100point combat system of course if it didnt it really would have flopped

but it does so it is WAY better because i like to attack things:nuke:
oh no vanilla BE doesnt have nukes WHY?

XCOM 2 will be released in November 2015.

that puts the release window for BERT in the first half of September.
at least, BERT should be released before 1st October.

Firaxis wants to turn Beyond Earth into a franchise. they have a plan and will stick to it regardless of how BE is faring.

I agree with OP. CivBE is probably going to be released after Firaxicon which is in October. At that point, the game would be (and should be) completely finished and some people can review the game entirely about a week before it's released.

With CivBE vanilla last year, that was also announced in February and released in October. However, unlike this time, they announced a specific date at the start and I think Firaxis learned never to do that again. They just said "Fall", so that gives them, strictly speaking, by up to late November to complete the game if they wish to honour their promise.

They stopped releasing mini-dlcs for Civ 5 because people complained about them, I don't think they'll go back to releasing mini-DLC just to release mini-dlc and instead continue to use it as a "Bonus" for other things, like Pre-Ordering or the Pseudo-DLC for playing Starships.

I'm pretty sure that if people weren't interested in Beyond Earth, they'd drop the whole idea of turning it into a franchise pretty quickly. But either way, we've seen the high player numbers shortly after release. The game certainly didn't flop and the interest for that kind of game/theme is there - it just didn't quite deliver what many people had hoped for. And with Civ 5 being readily available and already in the Library of most people who are generally interested in the genre it's no wonder that it couldn't keep the people interested.

It's interesting though... had Steam Refunds already been active before the game was released, then the danger of this actually turning into a financial "flop" would probably have been a lot higher.

Steam refunds are only allowed if playtime is less than two hours. I doubt anyone would have wanted to return the game after less than two hours of play time.

I thought we were past this. I guess not.

And Civ 5 vanilla was barely playable on release due to performance, so the incomplete features weren't the main concern. BE has impeccable stability and very good performance, so IMO it is a vast improvement on those grounds alone. Say what you will about the feature set...

I don't know but it seems like "SPACE" is now a big trend in a current game industry. Almost every game developers have at least 1 game that related to space and now it seems like every big game developer will go to space immediately or at least having "an alien" in it. Gearbox has a game that has space element in it. Paradox studio just announce their latest game which also has "SPACE" theme. I don't think that game developers will try to deny the trend easily because for some reasons almost everyone I saw in the internet so freak when the word "SPACE" label on the game. Even BE's sell and criticism are somewhat bad but I don't think that it can be just 1 click and shut down the game.
Maybe the future of BE is up to the expansion, their motion and free patch for BE owner now (and probably the next 4 mega corporations. 1 of them will drag some customers to buy BE and probably its expansion).
I'm still looking at BE for afar and hope that the patch+expansion+4 new corporations will be good. Personally I think that they should put Rising tide release date to be the last. They would better try to take care BE with their very best effort because if Rising tide fails, there will be a lot of really big problems.

Portal 2 Spoiler Enclosed

If you've seen or played it already, I think this video clip is appropriate.

Gearbox has a few space elemented games: the Borderlands Franchise and they did colonial marines. I don't know why this trend is on an upswing.

October is too late. XCOM 2 will be released in November.

by December 2014, civ:be lost 80% of its player base.
it was a wakeup call for Firaxis. in January 2015 they did a free2play weekend of civ:be. later civ:be's two gamedevs publicly admitted that "they were not audacious enough". :D

no more than two hours and within 14 days of purchase.

strawman. barely playable does not equal unfun. civ5 vanilla on release was fun to play. civ:be is not.
