Rnes5: To Trust a Thief. Board NES

From Turkey
To Africa:
We know that you are a nation of dignity and honesty, and we are hoping and trusting that you will give an honest answer to our question. We have before signed a trade agreement with you, and we don't know wether or not it still stands valid; because norway, for example, has stated that they don't consider their trade agreements with russia to have ended even though they are at a war and have not stolen russian caravans. So, now I ask you: If it would happen that Turkey would send caravans to Africa, would they get stolen? If not, then Turkey, which tries to be an honest nation too, promises you that African caravans wouldn't get stolen, either.

Fair question.

Altough this might be obvious, we wish to state (to avoid any misunderstandings) that our former trading agreement is not valid anymore.

Fair answer. :king:

roddy? update? or do we need some more orders?

I didn't sent... lol Just too much thinking to do... I guss I should sent orders now :p Oh well.

still need orders for:
EDIT: none. thanks all.

been away on a VERY long weekend (from last friday to today), and STILL dont have the orders i need. have to do update today or tomorow, cause i'm going to the cape for the long (3 day) weekend and will proly not have access to internet.
so if i dont get orders by noon tomorow, i'm doing update without them, and i'll screw an orderless nation over. you've been warned.

ahahahah :D good point, gruban! wow do I feel awkward now..

anyway, I'll send orders immediately! Sorry for forgetting.. I've got a lot of studying to do for a couble more weeks.

ok, got orders from everyone yesterday, thanks. only one small error in the orders, easily fixed over aim :). nice turn, i get the feeling a lot of alliences are gonna have to get reshuffled now that the NPCs are basicaly gone as targets of aggression, lol. good luck figuring out who your friends are ;)

Battles:
No defence conquests: 27, 28, 29, 47, 60, 58, 64, 65, 67, 69

Territory 43 - Austria 1 vs Turkey 2
The last Austrian army in the region is met by a larger force, but manages to inflict casualties on their longtime enemy.

Territory 37 - Norway 4 vs Germany 1 (the city)
The unexpected attack quickly overwhelms the city defences, but the residents take up rioting against the invaders and the city is heavily damaged.

Territory 51 - Britain 3 vs Norway 5 (counting the city)
Even though the invaders were heavily outnumbered (almost 2 to 1) they managed to inflict heavy casualties to the defenders during the landing and lay seage to the city. During the second night of the seage a special ops unit managed to sneak into the city and opened up the gates, allowing a surprise attack on the last of the city defences.

Here's the totals, sending PMs now.
Code:
Country	Gold	Size
Britain 169 17
France 68 23
Spain - -
Africa 135 33
Rome 41 17
Turkey 29 17
Russia 12 6
Norway 67 11
Germany 52 12
Austria 4 3

Bloody hell. 5 to 3 and I lost 5 to their loss of 1?
Oh, and it's "siege".

Britain: I thought you agreed to pull back, evil backstabbing bastard! Obviously we need another "66" before you will learn.

Norway: hmmmm , i thought we'd said i could have Iceland to help attack germany with .... your loss

OOC: I really see no reason to continue playing now that even Rome screwed me over. I've went through all the possibilities that I could use to survive and they all include sending caravans to other nations - and Norway is the only place where I can send them so basically I'm screwed. I'm sorry, I know you wouldn't want players to quit but.. it just ain't fun when you haven't got the slightest chance of surviving.

Really? Hmm I wonder how you would have played in my position..

Finmaster, i realy hope you reconsider.
a dire situation is not the end of the world. yes you're in a crappy possition, but think of it this way:
for every one in a good situation, there's someone in a bad one.
if everyone that getts into a bad situation quits, there'd never be people in good situations who still had an opponent to fight.
when you and norway attacked Russia, he was in a MUCH worse situation then you are in now. but he didnt quit (thanks Tossi).

anway, whatever you decide, if you decide to stay/rejoin, tell me, so i know to wait for your orders. thanks.

as for suggestions for how to get out, here's what i'd suggest. get people back to trading with you. maybe offer incentives. maybe apeal to their sense of self-preservation (once i'm gone you're proly next, type thing) whatever strategy/diplomacy works best with each one. judging from your post above, you seem to think that you got betrayed by those you trusted. find out why, see if you can get them to change their mind.

if you still find that winning (this war or the whole game) is impossible as far as you're concerned, then try making your goal survival instead of victory, that too can be fun (manipulating the bigger guys to leave you alone and such).

currently have orders only from Jason. rest of you get your orders in.

Finmaster brings up an interesting point. What do you do when your situation is hopeless? (After all, I'm doing my best to make his situation hopeless . :king: )

Can you just give up and stop playing? Since it isn't fun for you when you're losing? But then what about the other players?

See, if people just give up when they're about to lose, then no one will ever be able to win, will they?

I guess the thing for you to do, Finmaster, is to remember what you had hoped Russia would do when you and Norway attacked him. What did you hope he would do? Presumably it wasn't "stop playing", right? Presumably it was something like "go down bravely."

Better yet, it could be to do what Norway did when Britain attached him. Frankly, I thought when that happened that it would all be over - after all, Britain was the richest country, and had no other enemies, and built over 40 (!) armies in Norway -- compare to only 20 facing you in Greece now -- while Norway was in a big shooting war with Russia, and Germany was hovering around, apparently no friend to Norway. And look at the board now - after a huge battle, Britain is kicked out of Scandinavia, and Norway is invading Germany.

I'll also make the side comment that Roddy, as Austria, made to me. He said something like "This is a fine war you're having with Turkey - you've sunk a single Turkish ship, and taken two of MY - Austria's provinces! I'm half expecting you to call the war off, declare you and Turkey are the best of friends, and admit it was just a ploy!"

In other words, Finmaster, isn't it just a little early to throw in the towel before I've taken a single one of your provinces? :king: I mean, I'm glad you have so much confidence in me that I'll do it ... :king:

Good speeches, people, good speeches indeed ;)

You know, I'm not usually the kind of a player to give up only because he is losing and quite frankly I am rather ashamed to do so in this game, because it has been a fun game. But the truth is that the less time I have for nessing, the less interrested I am in it. And even if I did rejoin - in just one month I will be leaving for army anyway. That's partially the reason why I have lately been trying to cut the number of nesses I am in. It works logically: once I lose interrest in a nes, I quit it. It isn't fair, I know, but it wouldn't be anymore fair for me to quit them all at once, this way I'll have more time for such events as university entrance exams which will start taking place tomorrow. As if this wasn't all, I've found myself a new girlfriend, who I have hardly any time at all to spend with :(

Currently I am in only one nes. I wouldn't want to continue being in two since I hardly have the 15 minutes/day on internet which I need for the one that I am in. Therefore, I hope you understand if I quit the nesses which no longer seem interresting to me - not because I would have to, but because decreasing the amount of nesses that I'm in would be very practical for my current life situation.

So, with this I bid you fair well. Thank you roddy for modding a good game. And thanks to all you players, it's been fun to play with you - gruban especially, I have to admit that your playing has been very clever, and you haven't even had to break any promises that you've given. Sometimes I wonder if you really are the newbie that the amount of posts you have suggests.. ;)
