Rolls: 3 for attacker, 2 for defender.
Attacker looses number of Armies equal to Defender's Roll divided by X. (2/2=1)
Defender looses number of Armies equal to Attacker's Roll Divided by X. (3/2=1.5)
Round down for the one who got the higher roll.
Round up for the one who go the lower roll.
Defender does not need rounding.
Attacker got the higher roll (3>2)and rounds down (1.5 => 1)

Both sides lose 1 army.
As explained in the beginning, 1vs1 end in both sides dying, province does not change ownership.
 
sorry, erik. but no. its the losses that are rounded up or down.
the defender in this case should loose 1.5 armies, but because his roll is lower, its rounded up to 2 armies.
 
Oh. To me, "Round ? for the one who got the ? roll" implied that the rolls were rounded, not the damage taken.

ok. i've updated a couple things in the rules.

1. specified what gets rounded up or down in a battle. the person who gets the lower roll basicaly gets screwed by the rounding off.
2. added the order of event for sea battles that involve ships loading or unloading armies.
the naval battle basicaly happens before any armies move. armies that were on the ships at the start of the turn would sink with their ship before being unloaded (in an invasion presumably).
armies that were going to load onto a ship will not go onto a ship that gets sunk at the same time (will just stay where they were).
 
So in the end, the battle in 45 was 6 of them to 5 of us, nearly even odds ... and I only took 1 of them with me? Yeesh. Spanish troops fight like devils!

However, that's spilt milk, and Spain will have to disband 4 units anyway before movement, so it hardly matters. Any we killed then would merely not have to be disbanded now.

  • maintaining peace on the continent,
  • wanting to keep up our reputation as an honorable type who warns our enemies ahead of time,
  • wanting to relieve the moderator's problems with running too many NPC countries
  • and wanting to resolve the contentious "who gets 46" issue with a minimum of strife ...

all those warnings i posted when i was considering running the NPCs about "(dont complain if i beat your......, cause i'm a good player" should probably be deleted now so i dont look completely stupid. lol

Wow, talk about an update. There are only ONE nation that is not attacking someone else, and only TWO that are not being attacked by someone else.

a couple minor "rule breaking" orders, easily compensated for (or ignored). one trading mix up that was resolved on aim.

Those wierd symbols in the English territory 68 are 10 armies each. not sure i'll use that again, but didnt want to draw 45 independent armies. there are 45 armies there however.

Battles:
Uncontested conquests (attacked with no defence): 45, 69, 59, 54, 44, 47, 46, 40


Territory 18 - Spain 2 vs Africa 1
This is the last territory spain now has, with no way to build units, its prety screwed. Thanks to Africa building a Mbase though, there is now a town there, a pleasant surprise for the Spanish. lol.

Territory 17 - Spain 1 vs Africa 3
No African losses.

Territory 16 - France 8 vs Spain 2 (army + city)
The barely defended City quickly fell to the overwhelming French forces.

Territory 14 - Spain 1 vs France 5
A vain attempt by the Spanish to get lucky (and encounter an undefended territory). They did take one army out though.

Territory 15 - Spain 1 vs France 4
Another lucky battle in unlucky surcumstances for the Spanish. Again took one with them.

Sea B - Engalnd 2 vs Norway 1
The English attack at sea. The Fleet from C arrived to help in the battle, but the Norwegian fleet had already heavily damaged the other British Fleet.

Territory 63 - Russia 9 vs Norway 1
The single army from 62 sent to defend 63 was met with overwhelming Russian numbers. The managed to destroy one russian army before being wiped out themselves.

Territory 55 - Austria 2 vs Turkey 5 (counting the city)
Another useless attmept by the Austrians to take out the Turkish base of power in the region. This time they manage to take out a couple of the defending armies though.

Territory 42 - Rome 5 vs Austria 2 (counting the city)
The Austrian defenders barely take out one army of the Roman conquerors.

Territory 41 - Rome 7 vs Austria 3 (counting the city)
The Austrian capital falls, but the defenders inflict heavy casualties on their oppressors.

Territory 32 - Austria 3 vs Rome 3 (counting the city)
The Austrians army from 42, having walked around the Roman Legions heading to 42, strikes back at the enemy that has taken most of their homeland. After 3 days of heavy fighting the city finaly falls. (kept rolling low rolls killing one army at a time, lol.)

Territory 29 - Austria 2 vs Rome 1 (the city)
Comming off the Fleet the Austrians suprise the city defenders and take the city with almost no casualties.

Econ in a few, once i get my bearings. lol.

To Africa:
Turkey wishes to announce right away that 47 belongs to us, we cannot allow our nation to be divided in half no matter what the circumstances are. We would also like you to give an answer to our earlier NAP request. Once again we remind you of your earlier promises to withdraw your navies from M now that your troops are landed on Greece. Also, if there ever comes a need for you to bring navies to M region, you MUST give us a clear reason for it beforehand.

To Rome:
We both have troops near 56. We would appreciate it greatly if you left it for Turkey, as we have talked before about us getting that area. Other than that, we thank you for good cooperation in this anti-austrian war, and wish you best of luck in fighting the Austrians on your own home soil. As always, you can feel free sending caravans to Turkey without any fear of them being robbed or anything.

I feel rather like building 40 armies in 66 and taking back my land. THEN you'll see huge battles!

OOC: Roddy, what tool do you use to roll? Some internet site? A mersenne twister? the rand.int function at home?
 
thanks jason. took over 2 hours (though that's with breaks).

i use a form in Access i made spcificaly for this battle system. basicaly the RND (random) function in Visual Basic for Applications.

Sorry, I don't get how that matches with the Sea Battles rule:

To Turkey: I can't promise never to attack you forever, unless you include some kind of real alliance against specific others in that. It's a war game, we're here to fight the other countries. I've already had a successful war with France against Spain, and a successful power-sharing deal with Rome. If I just agree not to fight you, then (presumably) not to fight Rome, and not to fight France, that doesn't leave a whole lot left to do. I promised not to attack you last turn with my armies from M, and I didn't. But I can't see making an agreement never to fight for forever. Let's talk more by PM.
 
god dang it. stop pointing out the fact that i barely remember my own rules, will you.
well, no actualy dont stop pointing it out, or i'll have screw ups all over the place.

you're right, dont know what i was thinking. though i suspect it was something akin to "well the rules say, a ship can only do one thing a turn, so cant move and attack" which is wrong, as attacking aint part of that list. like armies, navies would move then look around to see who to fight in their new territory, and fight them (if needed/ordered to).

rerolling that battle (or actualy rolling it, as it was a 1vs1 unrolled one before).thankfully i dont got orders from anyone that this would affect.

Norway rolled the hit anyway. so the map remains the same. will change the text in the update though.....

  • Because our PM conversation didn't come to agreement;
  • Because he cruelly and unjustly attacked Russia without provocation or warning;
  • Because he stole trade from Austria without a declaration of war;
  • Because Russia says he desperately, urgently, needs it to stay alive;
  • Because I want to preserve my reputation of declaring war on a country before attacking it, giving fair warning;
  • And finally, because no weapons of mass destruction were found in Spain, they must have been moved to another country, so to defend our nation, children, lollipops, and all other good things in the world ... :king:

Africa hereby declares war on Turkey.
