Role Play Challenge: "Will the Real Suryavarman Please Stand Up?"

Good luck, this should be interesting.

Fantasy maps make my eyes bleed.

"Will the Real Suryavarman Please Stand Up?": Part I

Oh boy, I have amajor headache already! OK, OK let's get some organization on this map. First thing is I turn on the oprion that shows food/hammers/commerce. Then we settle in place

SuryA0000.jpg

Not thinking much here, I am trustying the random map generator!

We meet the first AI.

SuryA0001.jpg

Sury, damn I hate this guy. The one AI I really hate as a neighbor, er wait a minute. Never mind.

Our scout was pretty productive getting us 111 gold, a map, and masonry!

I am not going to show the face of every Sury we met.

But I can tell you the techpath: BW/AH/Agriculture/Wheel/Pottery/Writing. Not my usualy path at all, but then again this is NOT a usual game.

SO is there copper anywhere near.

SuryA0002.jpg

YOU bet there is!!!!!

So we mine the copper and silver, and build out a pretty sizeable force of axes.

Because after AH we find

SuryA0003.jpg

We have horses. No I mean Sury has horses. No not us, the other, well dammit, here's what I mean

SuryA0006.jpg

Yeah, now you see what I am saying.

Instant Horse, and we didn't even need to build a settler! At this point the capital (by the way this Khmerian Capital is NOT the usualt capital name. Looks like different names).

OK, here is a view of the new city, the remaining AI Sury and our first Khmerians city we actually settled!

SuryA0008.jpg

Our capital is also building the Great Wall. Hell with the free Masonry tech I figured we could easily get it.

After writing, I am a little puzzled what to tech next so I saved and look for advice.

SuryA0009.jpg

By the way I have NOT opened borders and we are still at war against Sury. Not Sury, but Sury. Got it! well, we have not opened borders because Sury is Sury's worse enemy and until I find out who hates who and who is stronger than us, I figured out a new strategy for this game.

Just build military and kill the closest Khmerian!!!!!

Seriously, I am lost at diplomacy right now, so no open borders.

And as you can see, the diplomacy screen says it all

SuryA0010.jpg

So a few questions here

1) Do we finish off Sury now? We need to build a new axeman force as the first got depleted as the capital was on a hill. It means we have to wait until the Great Wall is finished (Yes, I really think I want that thing on this game).

2) Next tech. Suggestions.... Seams like at least 2 may be religious zealots considering early religions were founded and Sury is Sury's worse enemy.

3) Do we bother with a settler or just try and run the Khmerian table and kill Sury, then Sury, then Sury, then Sury. Comeone, you all really want to see 6 dead Suryavarman on the screen now!!!

Be nice if the different colors on the score sheet were the same in the diplomacy screen.

And it would be nice if either of these colors matched up with the territory-boundary colors on the map. Which is actually how I think we ought to refer to the different Surys. So the decision now is whether to kill off Green Sury. It would be nice to see more of the other city's BFC, which now looks pretty bad (except of course for the gold).

 at the diplomacy screen.

Oh, my head....

Iron will give you Swords, Aesthetics gets you a good backfill tech and towards Math/Currency/Construction/CoL....Hmmmm....

Not even 1 Sury is pleased with you. If I would see a Sury get whiped of the face of the earth you would expect some guys to be happy, but noooooooooo not these sury's. Interesting game btw ;) Take out 1 Sury, build up empire, then kick them of the face of the earth.

I wonder if Sury is going to be mad when he finds out he will be eventually killed, yet he still lives.

Yaarrr--Clash of the Clones! Very cool scenario where even the most levelheaded scientist will get mad. :twitch::woohoo::twitch:
Could you post a screenshot of F4->Info to get an idea about some of the personalities by checking their favorite civics? As I understand it, a random choice of leaderheads with all their XML-attributes (=personalities) got Sury's pretty face transplanted on them, so one with a favorite civic Mercantilism is likely to be a Toku-Sury :crazyeye:.

Mad, press Alt-D and change your name to Suryvarman II. I command it.

City names: The captials are different names because you founded Yasodharapura, so it couldn't be used for the next Khmer city name. So Sury got Hariharalaya then Angkor Thom then Angkor Wat or whatever.... etc.

Also, I don't think killing all the Suryavarmen would be entertaining enough. A diplo victory would be cool (King of the Suryavarmen?) but the variant says space or conquest. SPACE!

Most amusing. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

For future reference, I'd love to see an 18-Montys game too. :D

I suppose that one would be with 18 genuine Montys rather than 18 random personalities... :D

IMHO, the best diplomacy is done with a pointy stick. Iron Working would be my suggestion. Just be careful when you're attacking Sury, as he has open borders with Sury, Sury, and Sury. It might be better to go after Sury instead... after you finish off Sury, of course. :crazyeye: Forget space; it's all about the Clone Wars.

Diplomacy I hope to see:

"-1 You refused to help you"
"-1 You stopped trading with you"
"-3 You declared war on yourself!"
"-3 This war ruins your relationship"

:crazyeye:

See if you can get the "your maps have proven that the world is donut-shaped" message. :)

Just kidding actually. For one thing, there's no sea in the fantasy world. For another, the message is not in the game. It's just the old boring "you have circumnavigated the globe" thing, or whatever it is. At the very least it doesn't wrongly say that the world is round.

reading this is making my brain hurt. are the sury's colours related to their personalities? or do we have to work out which one is which as we go along?

I really think it'll be an easy game, I've shadowed it a bit further than this, and it seems to be unfolding the same.

Spoiler :
Really, your allready in front on the troops power, and going to swords you'll have taken over 2 or 3 civs by then.

Then its just a matter of the big getting bigger. Lots of ice flood plains, and bronze/horses with 1st conquest is a bonus.

1 difference though, I actually got the random event for a silver mine/road for 20 gold in capital.....:woohoo: did that ever set off research.

Plus the Green Khemer, your attacking will settle a 3rd city to the SE and contain gold in 2nd ring.
