ROTQM7: Really?! Okay . . . Thanks for the "Memories"

look...pretty soon, after all this abuse, i'm going to stop posting all together

:mischief:

but, no...i purposely didn't "get it" yet b/c i won't be playing until tonight *maybe* (i have a b'minton match and don't get home until 7 ~ that's a nice, relaxing 13-hour day ~ a'holes)

i hate you guys

:yup:

after our fourth crushing defeat, I have to return to claim my save!

I, Pholkhero, the Seventeenth, have got it.

[gets save]

Cripes!! Thats a far-away save.

I have good news! Our long national nightmare is over!!
Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

And there shall be peace!!

But really ~
Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

You don’t even trust me to move the boats now??

Everything is going according to plan. I decide to only play 10 as Machinery was done then, plus, things worked out well that way. After our courthouse was done at Aksum, I built a monastery and temple for culture and maximized for growth for now; it has a cap of 14 now! Meanwhile, our other two cities focused on units a bit.

Oh ~ and Zoroaster was settled in Cahokia ~ the housing market was right ~ and Christianity spread there (and Buddhism spread for FREE to Aksum!).

I kept bombarding whilst healing outside Nidaros. This was the first time I really saw that it was behind walls, and on a hill. Oh well ~

Have it, boys!

I have a bunch of pics for ya, but for some reason, I have the tile yields overlay on, and there’s breads and shields on my guys!!

And it fell:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

He earned us a general
Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

But he still had one more city left. I took control of the errant fleet and sent it around the lip of the island between us and the Viking homeland. I’ll drop off these few drops and begin ferrying our army from the island. We’ll need to be watchful that the AI doesn’t expand into these lands, too ~ or perhaps once we eliminate a few nearby rivals, we focus mostly on navy??

Notre Dame was BIDL, and this:
Civ4ScreenShot0013.jpg

Both of which I imagine, are my fault ~

Machinery comes due, and I choose Calendar for the 10 culture Mausoleum.

Oh, and I killed Ragner:

good job pholk. I see that you left those 2 workers sleeping on our mainland. Probably need to put them to work building Mr Fox's superhighway.

Obligatory Rant:

- I keep saying this: All idle workers should be flogged.

RotQM7-AD1400-workers.jpg

We obviously no longer need the hammers, and we need the happy -- which is why Calendar is selected I presume. I wined the, umh, well, wines, and canceled the order for Calendar (do they have those naked women calendars? They don't? Nah, cancel it!)

- Learn to pillage.

RotQM7-AD1400-pillage.jpg

Those are just gold on the floor waiting to be picked, ... and we are too lazy to bend down? Geez.

On with the game ...

The Search for Huayna's Palace

Our troops cornered a HC's chariot:

RotQM7-AD1415-chariot.jpg

With a fair amount of torture (like endless Fox's rant), he revealed that HC is towards north.

Yeah, big news. As if we haven't already know that! :gripe:

So northward we go ... a few things happened in the mean time, and that's for later. We finally reached the yellow border ... what's this? A settling party?

RotQM7-AD1450-HC-settler.jpg

You cannot pass! I am a servant of the Secret Fire, welder of the Flame of Sitting Bull! The dark AP will not avail you, Flame of Incans! Go back to the shadow. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

And pass they certainly did not ... neither did they go back.

RotQM7-AD1455-HC-city.jpg

They settled.

Only to be razed immediately ....

RotQM7-AD1465-HC-city.jpg

And at the end, we still have yet found the AP. But I am pretty certain it is here:

RotQM7-AD1480-HC-land.jpg

We could either go NE to raze the city first, or we could go NW to see if Cuzco is really there. I would suggest NE, since this give us time for our newly upgraded maces to arrive. If Cuzco is really there, it will probably be better defended than this. But to our advantage, think HC has no metal

To hasten our troops movement, I am moving a general and a worker here. Worker shall road the place, while general is meant to turn the medic into supermedic.

RotQM7-AD1480-worker-general.jpg

Why am I moving worker and GG first instead of troops? Well, The dogs are being upgraded so I might as well move the worker first.

Speaking of which, while moving troops, I found that Ragnar returned from the deads. Damned, there must be necromancer around.

RotQM7-AD1405-barb.jpg

So, while moving troops back for upgrade, I decided to exorcise the land first.

RotQM7-AD1455-barbcity.jpg

The Path of Confusion

Well, someone mentioned getting ourselves confused to prevent AP lost. I tried.

RotQM7-AD1420-confused.jpg

Hmmm ... TRY HARDER.

RotQM7-AD1435-prophet.jpg

A prophet arrives ... a good sign.

And indeed:

RotQM7-AD1440-Confused.jpg

Now, only the capitol is not confused.

Again, I tried:

RotQM7-AD1480-Confused-fail.jpg

Again, I failed. :aargh:

I ordered another missionary, next player can try. However, I think we should not revolt to confused.

Why? Because there will be 1 turn of revolt. Duh!

But more importantly, here's why:

RotQM7-AD1460-Diplo.jpg

We are already at 2/3 of freddy's votes. If we revolted, we would have surpassed Freddy and become the AP candidate -- if that happens, we will lose!!! So, we should confused our capitol to increase our votes, but we should never revolt to confused so that we never become eligible for candidacy.

Other Stuffs ...

Firstly, Freddy says hello.

RotQM7-AD1425-freddy.jpg

Hmmm ... just when we are about to board the ships.

Then, we say goodbye to him.

RotQM7-AD1435-Dormund.jpg

Nice to meat you. ;)

Someone got Chickened ...

RotQM7-AD1425-Optics.jpg

and we got a series of useless events:

RotQM7-AD1435-copper-mine.jpg

Yeah, mining is a hazardous work. I know.

RotQM7-AD1440-crossbow.jpg

Woohoo! :woohoo: A nice vent! ALl crossbows get promoted!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE GOT ZERO CROSSBOWS?!?!

Don't be mad, have truffle.

RotQM7-AD1465-Truffles.jpg

Yeah, very useful!!!

Oh, and we have a barb wondering in the east.

RotQM7-AD1450-Barb.jpg

He has not been seen since, but he's there.

Research and Builds

I completed optics, and upgraded most of our triremes to caravels. One is heading east, and the other is heading west -- we want the circumnavigation bonus. It will hasten troops movement.

I continued to get us Drama. We need those theaters. They are the cheapest culture giving building (in terms of hammer-cpt ratio). Plus it enables the culture slider (without which, we cannot win).

It is already 1480 ... we have to plan for the big switch to 100% culture. Our slowest cottage will take 60 turns to become town, so we should plan the switch in 80-100 turns. Ideally, we should at least get Printing Press by then (better Liberalism), and have the cathedrals erected. We are still lacking temples, so do not get too engrossed in military. They are of second priority in general. In fact, apart from a few ships, I built ZERO military in my turns.

But that is assuming we can get to victory before the AI get to astronomy ... unlikely. Hence, we may have to plan for getting to steel (frigates). Do we have enough time to win if we switch only then?

the workers were only idle as I thought they were on their way to somewhere's else, and didn't have a ride yet.

why didn't they improve the capitals island?? Look over there . . . [vvvrrroom!]

also, calendar was for the Museum wonder and it's 10 culture per turn . . . ya know, the culture variant? ;) :)

and finally, i know i've been gone a bit, but it's still "play until a significant stopping point." we're all friends here, right? so what if pholk plays 64 turns sometimes, eh??

lurker's comment:
Culture variant and you don't push liberalism for free speech (2X culture)????????

A comment about the AP I think if you switch you have enough votes to block any AI-win via AP since you will also increase the total votes.
Considering that you will get a huge increase in votes once your capital is confused and taking in account that HC will lose alot of votes in the near future I think it is even safer to convert than not.

I think at the present moment, it is better to not switch, partly because of the 1 turn of anarchy, but also I think I disagree with your observation that "even safer to convert than not". Assuming nothing changes, currently the opoosition votes against HC is 34 (Freddy) + 24 (us) = 58, exactly 50% of 116. If we convert now, we will become the contender, so opposition votes against HC will only be 48 (us) = 34% of 140, assuming Freddy will vote HC. Hence, switching increases our chance of losing by 16% (and is too freaking close to the 30% blocking minimum!). Any increase in votes of Alex and Cyrus, we would lose (their increase is more probably than ours, since they are not playing 3CC ;)).

Of-course, the danger of not switching is Alex and Cyrus start voting for Freddy, which coupled with HC's impending population drops (thanks to us), Freddy might win. So, I suggest we monitor the glances screen. If Alex and Cyrus start to shift towards Freddy, we have to consider switching.

But I predict we would have destroyed the AP first before that happens anyway

EDIT: Oh, I meant to comment on the Literature vs PP, keep forgetting :old: Ofcourse Liberalism is better than PP. Somehow, my warped mind thought that PP is requisite for Liberalism. So, what I meant was the minimum is to get PP, it is far better to get Liberalism and PP. :) -- which was wrong, since in non-warped reality, PP is not requisite of Lib, so getting Lib is better than PP, but ofcourse getting Lib+PP is still best. Are you confused enough now? ;)

Well I'm pleased to report we have twice the number of catapults from when last I played. I am saddened to note that all the excess units are doing bugger all, including two scratching their behinds on a one tile island

We lose one catapult in razing Tiwanaku.

We find Cyrus but I don't think we can get here without Astronomy.

We start the long haul towards Education.

We find Alex as well. No path here either.

I think we're cursed.

That's the state of play. 2 more catapults are one turn away and the maces a few behind them. I made a boo-boo and moved our stack away from teh coast, whoever is next will have to move them back to join the catapults. Super Medic has been made and is in the stack as well. Huayna has other citiesd to the north west as well.

We should head straight for Liberalism and take Printing Press, build our culture buildings and then see if we can turn off the tap there.

Oh and by the way there is a diplomatic victory vote first IBT, good luck

Yes but confusing your cap will bring you alot of additional votes. I'm not sure if you won't surpass Freddy anyway once your cap becomes conf.

I really don't know if you have been cursed or lucky when oz' try to confuse the cap failed.

Rowain, as I learnt it myself in recent Chokonuts game, only full member can be candidates. So, as long as we don't convert, it doesn't matter if we have the highest number of votes. We won't qualify as one of the contender.

Ozzy, I am not so sure abt not being able to reach those AIs pre-astronomy ... a path might exist from the south west.

But good turns, too bad abt the confused failing, it happens when we have 4 religions there already. But we must keep trying. I hope the theatres are up and running.

Imhotep is UP ... but not sure ... he did indicate a Hiatus in RR3.
