ROTQM7: Really?! Okay . . . Thanks for the "Memories"

Happy Birthday, Pholk!

A very small present:

My favorite line in Star Trek ("A Piece of the Action"):

BOSS: "You know what to do..."
GOON: "Don't worry boss, they can't do nothing 'til they're through sparklin'."

I propose we make it 1st of April anyway. Everyone can remember it, like those Monday federal holidays.

Lurker: Doh. Aprils.... Ah well, I had to be fooled this year aswell - my classmates obviously dont get it

"I've just dyed my hair black, bought a swimming pool and crashed in a plane, breaking both of my legs!"

... Seriously.

man, that was a great set pholk ~ who's up now??
I don't know how you can say that was a great set as I don't even remember it being reported. I must have slept straight through it.

Set 04

Sorry about the delay. I was trying to modify a map to my liking for an upcoming game, but I just can’t get it right.

I loaded up the game, forgot to modify my .dll and so you’ll get a CTD :D

The only thing I did during the pregame was merge the GG as they seemed to be the sensible thing to do. I also, slowed growth to avoid unhappiness in the capital, just for a short time.

790: H Gardens BIDL. We never really cared about that anyway, so . . .

Aksun went from its temple to a library that was in the queue !? grr…. G-G

I also decided to move our small stack towards Haithabu.
Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

It was sparsely defended w/axes and chariots. Maybe we can get lucky. I’m also going to move our galley east to pick up the spear. Who knows?

860: Once Aksun finished its Library, I went with a Christian, and then a Confucian, Monastery for the quick culture boosts.

870: Civil Service came in
Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

I set a beeline for Music thru Aesth & Lit. I also didn’t revolt because we were expecting another GP in 2 turns. I was going to wait until it came in before going to Bureaucracy . .. then I forgot to revolt ~

I just had Cahokia build 2 Missionaries (Taoist and Hindu) and sent them on a galley to our 3rd city. It now started on an Aqueduct to relieve a bit of the unhealthiness problem there.

890: That GP I mentioned was born.
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Settle him I presume??

910: Judaism FIDL and now that I’ve finally bombarded the defenses there, Haithabu’s got 2 HAs.
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

I KNEW I shouldn’t’ve been prudent!! That’s one of the times I seconded-guessed myself because its an SG, and I felt a team responsibility, but . . .

930: Our missionaries arrive on heathen shores. Taoism failed, but H succeeds!

940: Back on the Viking islands, Ragnar makes a tactical error and sends the two horses into the open plains.
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

1 down, 1 to go

(until he makes more, that is)

950: Aesthetics
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

Of course, we going onto Lit now. I set two scientists at Aksun to slow growth there a bit. It’s helping as we’re now at 60% tech rate.

I think I did a fairly good job of completing most of the objectives:
Religion and culture spread ~ okay
CS > Music ~ :goodjob:
Health ~ working on it

Not bad, not bad. I’m sure fox will show where I’m wrong, but for now I salute me!

I'm starting a new SG ... Only One Improvement ... still a slot or 2 open in the roster - any one interested?

d'oh! what th-- not only is no one playing this but now other SGs are starting in it!

i think that's definitely a first, even for a PH game ~

Fox, fox, fox??

Look who's pushing. At least I don't promise a "real chance of playing tonight" and then post a lame "great post" one-liner 2.576 days later, and when the game finally got played a further 5.913 days, conveniently forgot to remove a simple file from the Assest folder after all this time.

Anyhow, continuing the pholk-bashing from SG etiquette to the actual game itself, if you feel somewhat proud of your play in this turnset, I regretably apologize for bursting the I-am-in-heaven-dream-bubble to bring you back to reality-hell.

First:

RotQM7-AD0950-rants-1.jpg

Archer? Why do we need more archers now? Yes, we need pointy-sticks, but they ain't arrows. Spears. Think big. Try not to reflect your real-life small-size problem into this game, okay? And where does the galley think it is going? It should stay between the two landmass.

Next:

RotQM7-AD0950-rants-2.jpg

I hate idle workers. If they have nothing better to do, they should be roading the cities to the northern tip of the island, since that will cut transport time. A troop moving on road is as fast as ferry in galley, so that will reduce the distance needed to cover by the galley.

Also, we shouldn't be chopping down the trees in Aksum. It only have 2 in its BFC, so both are needed to gain one health. Gondar, on the other hand, can have the forest in its SE chopped, since there is only one forest in its BFC.

And clearly Aksum shouldn't be working on that 3F farm when there is a 3F2C lake. At this point, I was about to say something really harsh like "if you play so sloppily and still insist on playing a longer than usual number of turns, we might as well all pack up and go home", but it will really be too harsh :)

Anyway, I corrected all those (the archer, having invested so many turns, I let it go). All fog-busting workers are tasked to build roads while fog-busting, and I transported the GM down south and moved two workers back north to pasture the sheep. The GM going south is because I think Gondar will need the extra food more than the other two cities.

RotQM7-AD1000-GreatMerchant.jpg

I have also switched research away to HBR for those phants. Then an event occurred which make sme hate being broke:

RotQM7-AD1010-event.jpg

And as if to rub salt on the wound, we got more than enough money a turn later:

RotQM7-AD1020-Parthenon.jpg

:gripe:

Well, as a consolation, we seems to be on track for the variant:

RotQM7-AD1060-culture.jpg

End-turns-note:

- I have brought two more spears to Viking ... suggest we go for the kill now.

- we should probably road the area above Gondar. For this, the worker near capitol should be ferried down:

RotQM7-AD1060-worker.jpg

- Gondar is still lacking the State-Religion.

- We have a total of 5 religions I think, confusion, hinduism, taoism, buddhism, christianity. Try to spread them around and build those temples and monasteries.

HEY! Fox ~ you've finally gone too far ~ remember there is NO set turn limit so i couldn't've POSSIBLY played too long!! Geez!

seriously, though, this is the first game i've played in a long while, and its the only one i've played so i'm sure mistakes abound ~ jerk ~

Roster:
pholk >
fox > just played
ozbenno > UP NOW
imhotep > on deck

OK, my gripe. We're playing Always War, we beelined Construction to ensure a military advantage and we have 1 catapult . That's right 1. How are we going to get far in this game unless we wipe the nearby civs early? Without any seige? Ideas?

Anyway, play ten most of which is reducing the cultural defences in some Viking stinkhole.

Build us a wonder with GA points.

Get rid of the other city as well.

The navy is coming.

Two of those galleys have catapults in them. Please build some more as well.

National and Heroic Epics are available as well as Moai. Where to put them? Capital has best specialist potential so National there, Moai and Heroic could go in Zara's old capital maybe.

Well done. Good job on the SoZ. It seems you did well with one cat, razing two cities, so I don't see how big the gripe was :mischief:;)

However, why wasn't my instructions on workers followed? All idling workers shall be publicly flogged.

Capital and Aksum would both exceed happy limit in 4 turns .. colosseums/forges might be needed.

We should also revolt to bureaucracy.

As usual, any pholk game will have virtually no SG captain, so its up to the team players to self-propel this game. So here is a roster:

pholk
fox
ozbenno
imhotep << UP
ruff

I have also fixed the log. Please use the save attached.

i prefer to think of it as distributed leadership where all players take part "holding the reins" as it were ;) :)

good turns, Oz ~ am i wrong to think we seem to be doing fairly well here so far??

:rotfl: and then some more :rotfl:

The DM etiquette and trash talking, two great things you lot have brought to this forum. :goodjob:

two great things??

i always thought DM etiquette=trash talking

Good news right into the set: After 4 turns Music came in, and we get the free Artist :yup: [party] !

45981344.jpg

Mr. Pointy Hat gets bold again and runs right into our force: Free XP!

66322520.jpg

His cities are not really better defended though...

38098178.jpg

Unfortunately our 'phant loses at 88%, but the Dogs clear up then...

45057083.jpg

After Music I went Monarchy to get HR, our cities can grow a lot more to run more Artists...

19593301.jpg

Here you can see the Viking Cap: Too many Archers to take it right now, we need some more 'phants for it. Ragnar has another city close to Incan lands, but that's about it if you see his score...

28445408.jpg

Speaking of the Incans they get a little annoying. They killed the two Triremes at our cap, so I had to dial up a replacement. The cap can then go back to building the Sistine Chapel. I revolted to HR and Bureaucracy. Our two southern cities can go full force on military while our cap builds the wonders...
