Sana05 - Return to RAR

Preturn. I change the slave market to a forge in Moscow. I hate the unhappiness they bring and thus I do not like them. I move to the Gold so that we can get fast forger and greater income

IBT. Some Siam unit is in our territory.

Turn 1. I trade 192 gold for contruction from China. We can now build mines. I check the Science and we are now behind Siam at least Aristocracracy and Civil Engineering.

IBT. Not much.

Turn 2. More moving towards the sheep spot.

IBT. Egpyt build the stonehenge, Persia has built the Great wall, Siam has built the MoM.

Turn 3. Not much.

IBT. Nothing of importance.

Turn 4. Not much.

IBT. Ditto.

Turn 5. We build a forge in Moscow and start a Germaniac Spearman since we need to have some more defence with the barbs around. Stables builds a worker.

IBT. Nothing.

Turn 6. We get Philosphy. We start Democracy, but we are not the first. I trade Philosophy and 18 gold for Civil Engineering and Maths to Siam. We trade Philo and 11 g for Aristocracy to the Chinese.

IBT. Not much happened.

Turn 7. Not much.

IBT. The Viking move some units into our territory and I am a bit affraid of them

Turn 8. Not much.

IBT. The Viking declare on us and take Kiev. We lose a Tribesman without them losing a unit. They should have lost an archer since it was red while ours was till full health then died. We killed an archer when it attacked our ranger.

Turn 9. I am starting to move some forces to the battle area, but they might be too late. As a result I start to build walls in Stables. I managed to build Odessa near the Wool.

IBT. I lose a Ranger.

Turn 10. Not much.

We need to take back Kiev and remove the Vikings from our area. I am mining the Gold near moscow and we can soon get more production out of Moscow and start on our war program. We need to get more luxs so we need to make the Cotton our next settling target. Once we get on the front foot on the war we can then try and sue fo peace, since both civs are far away from each other. We have two barbs that are causing problems for us. We need to try and remove them, but they will be stubborn to remove.

I see it, but it may take a few days, sorry.

Actually, without looking at the save - how are we supposed to counterattack? With Archers?

Futile, IMHO. And from what I read, at least the last two turnsets were a classic example of overxpanding in RaR...on DG/Deity, you prolly need a state-of-the-art defender plus a def bombard unit in every freakin' border town.

I'm moving thursday and will be on hiatus until the dsl guys come knocking at the new apt. You have time, Doc.

No rush here, though I am back now.

Sorry folks, this game is a lost case IM(NS)HO.
The Viking forces will capture our Worker in the interturn, and then proceed and autoraze our city. With the 2 Barbs around our two remaining cities, we cannot even afford to send reinforcements down - not to mention to counterattack.
There have been several crucial mistakes in this game (and I'm not pleading to be innocent!):
Wrong city spots (Moscow and St. Pete are fine, ok) - hills are crucial, not only because of the spt, but for defence.
Overexpansion compared to our military strength.
Wrong Worker actions - roading would have been the prime choice, not mining (except the capital).

If someone feels like digging out of our hole - feel free to give it a try. Somehow I have completely lost the interest in that kind of games (maybe because I now have enough challenges in my job, while I didn't have any interesting occupation during my valiant C3C days...).
Sorry ...but I chicken out here.

:worship:
For one, I believe you are very right that we over-expanded, RaR isn't so REX-friendly as C3C is. I must confess I was part of the fault, I remember, during my turns, having chosen a settler over a TG even with a barbie knocking at the door.
For two, if you fold Doc, I am no one to come and get it back straight.

Some SG's are fun, some are achievements, but this was a lesson ;) There needs be some if we want to improve.

I am not a big fan of digging in this game, after all, we played demigod because we wanted a warmup, not a challenge. I'll play a set just to see where we can get to easily, but I'm happy to restart, and we can make sure we place our cities properly. Everyone in?

lurker's comment: I'll do it

I played 20 turns of this one, everything is random except the difficulty, which is DG. I haven't seeded it, but it looks like a pangea with roaming barbs.

We have contacts with Babylon and the Sioux. I forgot the Greeks were SEA, so I built a harbor first for the food kelp, which was a good misfortune. The bad misfortune is that I sent an european scout to explore rather than those huge ATAR curraghs. One is in the making, and we have a TA TG at home.

There was a hut on the settling spot so we started ahead pottery. Trades were good enough for us, we got a bab slave cheap and cultivation just int time so that we could start on Urbanism right after.

Roster
Sanabas - On Deck
Despair888 -
Classical Hero -
DocT
Beorn-el-Feared - conveniently swapped
Azzaman - UP

Anybody home? :bump:

I'm here :).
Looks fine, Greece is a nice random Civ as well. FWIW, I always get a Scout out ASAP, and the Curragh after that...with no military, you can pop huts (note the Curragh also doesn't count here), and in the very beginning, there aren't many Barbs running around.
Spot for city #2 seems obvious - 1N of the Barb.

Yeah, agree with that. Azzaman, you want to take it? Or do you want to jump in and grab a set now DocT? TheLoneMan, I'll add you to the roster, assuming that one of Despair, Azzaman or C_H don't check in soon.

Yup, the berry hill. It'd be yours next, sana, so I wouldn't feel bad hijacking the save from him in your shoes ;)

lurker's comment: If both Azza and Despair don't check in, I would be glad to play with you. DM is a level above my normal level, but I think there are many competent teachers here ;)
