Searching disabled again?

Just tried to search OT. . . looks like it's not working again. When did this happen? Last I heard was on 22 Oct 2003, and it has been reenabled.

Guess I need to get out more, huh?

No, you don't need to get out more, I think. So far as I was aware there was no annoucement or anything that said the search was disabled. I was trying to search Jeff_Atari's posts last night when I got the message that I didn't have premission to do that, thought that I just couldn't search his posts, tried someone elses as a test and got the same message. I thought I had been banned for some reason. Then I saw that I could post replys and relized that the search was off.

I noticed that the server was melting down a lot recently. I think it's a good thing that they're turned off for now because it was getting annoying seeing that darn "Server Busy, come back later" message.

Yep, and I am glad it is turned off with the crazy Conquests splurge that is happening atm.

TF - does this mean another hardware upgrade to cope with the extra traffic this site will gain? I can't imagine the traffic going down any time soon...

I estimated that turning search off would allow at least 50 more simultaneous online users. It's worth it.

TF - does this mean another hardware upgrade to cope with the extra traffic this site will gain?

I haven't heard anything from Telefragged about it... but my guess is no, or at least not anytime soon. The server already has two processors and 1 gig of RAM.

Why not 4 processors with 3 gig RAM? I am not an expert (I am a sales rep ), but this doesn't sound impressive to me.

I seriously hope they don't enable it until either:

1) Traffic drops to a level where "server busy" does not occour normally AND low enough so that when search is re-enabled it doesn't fall over several times a day.

2) They get a server upgrade to cope with the new load.

Considering Conquests is only just out I think 1) will not happen for several months, if ever.

Considering TF said hardware upgrades are not going to happen in the near future 2) is also unlikely.

I would rather have no search and to be able to browse, than have search and only be able to browse 50% of the time.
