Sentus Populusque Rmnus

Well now I feel like an idiot. >.<

Post edited, screenshots are now in place.

Don't you prefer to use imgur or something like that instead of your account's storage space? When I discovered how to use imgur I switched immediately.

Maybe I should do that. Thoughts?

Definitely switch. I think almost everyone here uses imgur. You can even seperate your pictures into folders for multiple stories and basically have unlimited storage. It doesn't become an issue until you have thousands of pictures, and you're good for now :p

I already passed my limit there, they don't exclude your pics but they deny you access to them (you can of course save the links in another place to bypass this, buit I fear they may delete them occasionally. I created a second account there for that (now that I got a second e-mail for my job).

You won't reach that limit for a long time if you make folders. They limit what you can view. I think it may be 250 pictures. That's pretty great. Because you're able to view the pictures in ascending and descending order then you can actually have a total of 500 or whatever in any given folder that you can always see. Might be 400 but whatever. Basically though, there will be plenty of space for you :D

That's all really great and all, but would any of you care to make suggestions about the game itself or are you fine with giving me despotic powers?

Despotism makes things faster, and without much knowledge on the mod itself it becomes hard to interact with it.

Until it becomes later in the game where more can be said, perhaps it is best you take hold.

Quick question, is there a way to show tooltips for all possible options in a random event pop-up at once or do I have to edit my screenshots for that?

Screenshot each option, cut and paste when editing the images.

"I don't like this," Lucius said, walking through the woods.
"You never like anything," Gaius replied, walking next to him.
"I like wide open plains, and living."
"Oh for crying out loud, you can't seriously be scared of a few pigs?"
"I can if they are as big as three men and outnumber us twofold. Especially in a forest so thick we won't see them until they are right in front of us," Lucius gestured at the trees and foliage all around them.
"Come on, it's not as if this is the first time we have been hunting in the woods."
"No, but never before have we been in a forest so dense that you can barely see sol in the middle of the day. At least I think it's the middle of the day, but I can't be sure because it's so damn dark here!"
"All the more reason to keep your eyes open for these boars those Dacians told us about."
"You do remember that they also told us to stay out of this forest because those beasts are gigantic and bloodthirsty?"
"And do you remember that I told you that they were only trying to scare us so they could have all that delicious meat to themselves? Honestly, I can't believe you would be so easy to scare. Even if they really were that huge and aggressive that's nothing a sharp spear can't handle." Gaius held up the weapon in question. "Besides, your constant babbling has probably long since scared them away. We really need to get back on track. Speaking of, Julia, where does the track lead?" he asked, expecting his wife and expert tracker to answer. As no reply came Gaius slowed his step and turned around looking for her.
"Weird, where did she go? And everyone else for that matter? Lucius, have you-" Gaius stopped walking altogether and looked confusedly around "-Lucius? Where are you? Where is everyone?"
The Jaws theme starting to play Silence was his only answer. The hunter raised his spear in a defensive stance, searching intently for any signs of life in the thick foliage. He looked to the left. He looked to the right. Suddenly movement. He turned toward it and had only enough time to scream as a giant boar tackled him to the ground.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
"Squeaaaaaaaaaak!"
He was quickly crushed beneath its weight.
This Roman group of hunters has never been heard from ever again.

Don't mess with wild boars, kids!

Our second group was much more fortunate, after hundreds of years of exploring southern Italy they have finally found the way back home! They were welcomed with open arms and a feast around the campfire mostly consisting of fish and lamb as they entertained our tribe with many tales of their adventures, most of them greatly exaggerated of course. Nevertheless at long last they had a place to call home and stay in for more than a few days.
...
They stayed for two weeks before getting kicked out by the shamans who told them to get back to work as Rome's population had grown threefold over the last few generations and can't afford to feed freeloaders, this time to the north as the Romans haven't heard from the group sent there for ages.
Let's hope they have more luck.

In all fairness, shortly after the hunters' return a severe drought broke out and started a fire in the Cuprum hills, and every able bodied man and woman was needed to put it out to keep it from spreading to the sheep pastures or Rome itself.

This catastrophe severely disrupted the previously peaceful life of our tribe, and caused a few certain individuals to take on more responsibility in leading us to prevent something like that to happen again. They decided to more thoroughly explore the possible applications of the unique metal in the area by developing ever more sophisticated tools to extract it from the ground and constructing a special building for melting and forming it.

Behold, high tech!

Some critical voices were skeptical about the growing influence of these leaders, and time will tell whether that was justified or not.

HKmXeZ7.png

There's two new techs available to research, Bronze Working for MOAR PRODUCTION and Formation of States to unlock Monarchy.

At this point I guess it's time to discuss civics: We now can research two techs which enable a civic each, Polytheism for Tribal Councils and Formation of States for Monarchy. Both are in the same column, so we have to choose now which we will adopt for the foreseeable future. While Polytheism is quite a bit cheaper its civic is worse I think. Tribal Council gives +1 Happiness in our seven largest cities while Monarchy gives +1 Happiness from Palace and +25% to Food, Production and Commerce. With only one city and a trivial difference in upkeep (low versus medium) I think the choice is fairly obvious. Unless the majority insists on doing something else I will head for Monarchy ASAP to jump-start our economy and do away with this pseudo democratic charade of asking you the readers for input for good (or at least until we switch to a more democratic civic).

Apropos jump-starting our economy, you don't mind building a Palace to house our future king now do you?

Nuuuuu! DKVM!

I am sad to hear of the death of one of our most famous hunters. I am however, in support of a new form of government which will allow the Despot Knoedel to be named King (or... Imperator?) of our glorious city-state. All Hail Despot Knoedel!

Rex, because he isn't Emperor yet :D

After all fires have been extinguished in the copper hills many people still remained, and got to work on extracting the metal. They saw that when burned it produced the most beautiful colors, which is surely a sign of the gods. Furthermore it could easily be formed and was used to create more precise and elegant tools than you could with stones, like hooks.

Meanwhile a large group of hunters explored beyond the lands of our neighbors, and came face to face with enormous mountains that seemed impassable, except for a small river in the middle of dense forest passing through them. However they didn't want to cross it and instead turned left, marching through hills and woods with peaks to their right until they came upon the sea again. While game is scarce our hunters could easily catch all sorts of fish along rivers and lakes and now even more in the sea. Thus they followed the coastline until they had a run in with a settlement of a tribe allied with our despised neighbors. Not wanting to spend more time with them as absolutely necessary our hunters went around their hill quickly, crossed a river and marched inland, finally coming across bountiful lands full of deer and seafood. Quiet and peaceful times are surely ahead for our explorers.

The same can not be said for the inhabitants of our village though: Unrest spread throughout Rome as two shepherds proclaimed themselves as the reincarnation of Romulus. Not only that, but they each alleged the other of really being the reincarnation of his brother Remus, who has been blinded by jealousy and now seeks his brother's place as the rightful ruler of Rome. Our population is divided over who to believe, some say this brother is the true Romulus, some say the other, and some few believe both to be impostors. The shamans decided to call upon the spirits to ascertain the truth, thus it was decided that both climb a different hill at morning and prepare a sacred space on its top. There they were to wait for divine guidance in the form of birds flying above them, which clearly is the most sensible and fair way of making decisions devised by man. After the sunset (I'm sorry (No I'm not)) they came down again to speak before the assembled crowd. One shepherd claimed to have seen twelve birds and the other six, but the latter said he had seen his birds first. While more people believed the first one to be Romulus than the second, there was still a seizable number of villagers he had convinced. Thus Rome split into two camps.

Over the next few weeks the first shepherd ordered his followers to erect him a giant building on the hill he received his sign on, as well as a wall around it. The second shepherd grew furious when he learned of this, so one morning he and his followers walked up the hill and provoked the other by belittling the foundation for his wall and jumping over it. The first shepherd grew even more furious from this, and stabbed the other with a spear until he died. This quickly escalated into a bloodbath as both sides picked up arms against each other. At last the followers of the still living shepherd were victorious, and proclaimed him to be Rex Romulus of Rome. The survivors of the group loyal to the other shepherd as well as those who refused to pick a side were turned into slaves and forced to work in the copper mines or help with the construction of the palace. Once it was finished moon long celebrations were held in honor of the king.

No more will we be divided by petty differences with one group wanting this and another group wanting that. Finally Rome had a leader! All hail the king!

You can still bring suggestions of course, but I am now no longer obligated to give a damn about them. :p
