September Patch Notes Discussion

Unsubscribe from mods. There are no menu issues unless you're running mods.

I'm not even getting to the menu though. The black screen that comes up at the beginning before the initial title screen comes up...that's where I'm crapping out. :(

Is it possible to turn mods off from Steam?

I believe that's what "unsubscribe" means, that's something you do in steam. In the game its enable/disable. If you unsubscribe from your mods within steam, I believe it'll remove them from your game

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try that out when I get home tonight. :)

Quick follow-up: I finished off the barb slinger because he was in the way, one of the half-alive barb warriors suicided into the Korean capital, and the barb catapult bombarded it again! I took it the same turn. Clinched next Heroic age for me and as good as guaranteed I wouldn't need to face those darned Hwatchas. A cordial thanks to barbs, I guess. Genuine deity level play!:D

@Boris Gudenuf: Exactly! Now I kinda feel obliged to pay those barbs some tribute. Or help to establish a few new barb camps. Somewhere near Lautaro's lands would be just fine. What a potential for a whole new mechanics. Maybe even a fourth expansion!

On a side note, I'm really enjoying watching everyone's reactions to the "crowded" terra map. I normally play on small or tiny maps with an excessive number of civs, so for me only having room for 2-3 cities before wars have to start is pretty normal and you guys are acting like this is a completely mind-blowing experience.

:D I actually loaded the game for the first time in 6 months yesterday. I enjoyed it again.

Notification icons for 'barbs approaching' and 'new camp' have exchanged their meanings...
Oh, yes. After swapping 'Delete Game' and 'Save Game' buttons earlier and now this, one their next moves for the (hopefully) upcoming Winter patch will be swapping 'Settler' and 'Builder' icons. It would be only logical and long overdue

If you want a good laugh try Terra. I got dowed on deity, small by three neighbours at t16

Oh you're right, I don't know so much about the flat earth theory and assumed it looked like the old fables of an ocean that suddenly ends for sailors to fall off from. I guess this one ends at a very cold pole to freeze in instead...

I've been posting about having more Dynamic Barbarians, with chances to hire them or trade with them instead of just fighting them all the time. It looks like they are trying a Stealth method of introducing Barbarian Allies . . .

There is no wrong way to play the game as long as you are enjoying yourself.

I used to play the old Terra Map in Civ V whenever I wanted a pure Domination Game, because there was really no reason to go to the 'new' continent and all the other Civs were crammed onto the one continent with you and easy to get at. Fastest Civ V game I ever played was Terra Map, Mongols - wiped out all my opponents before anybody got as far as Riflemen.

In my current game an enemy spy has knocked out one of my governors on 2 occasions. Never seen that before.
They've been doing this for a little while.
At this point, my Magnus has more blades in him than the iron throne.

This happened to me a lot pre-patch, in fairness, so you may have just got lucky. It's usually Magnus, usually in my capital. I find the AI fixates on one governor and will try to remove him/her at every opportunity until he/she moves to a different city.

QA varies widely depending, it can encompass dedicated software developers writing automated unit tests to some guy who clicks through steps laid out for them in a spreadsheet.

Diety Terra is a knife fight in a phone booth. Make friends fast because there will be early wars.
Based on my (admittedly a notch below diety) terra game today, holy cow. If you don't reduce the number of civs for the map size it is nuts. Even as aztec, and sniping a few settlers, the extra AI settlers really hem you in and then the traveling bands of uninvited warriors show up. I think I've had ~6 surprise wars declared on me in 3 eras.

The new world having the CS is a bit annoying because when you land to settle, the CS are a bit dispersed and that 3 tile zone blocks off a ton of the new world to possibly settle. They also tend to keep the barbs down a bit so it's a bit more civilized than the barbarian carpets you'd find in civ5.

I started Diety Terra.

First game Peter, spawned in desert with no tundra in sight. Ok, desert folklore if I can get it. Khmer wanders up with a warrior. I had gone scout/slinger to open. Just as the slinger comes out two more warriors show up and they declare.

Second game, got Vicky on a decent but not amazing river coastal spot. Monty's capital is 5 hexes away and he's mad from the get go...

Third game, got Vicky again. Pericles to north, Shaka to east, Indonesia to SE. I see three Indo warriors strolling towards me but fortunately Shaka gets in a three way war with Germany and Indonesia so the Indonesian warriors detour into Zulu lands. I manage to stay peaceful and make friends. Eventually discover Norway and Phoenicia are also in the game but I somehow get caravels first and reach the new world. I've got ten envoys banked and get suz with ten CS the first turn I meet a CS in the new world in a chain reaction of discovery, size, and more discovery.

Y'all are always going Slinger to open. Warriors are so, so much better on both offense and defense. Get one Slinger for the Archery eureka, sure, but...

I enjoyed the fact that new world "barbarians " may occasionally coalesce into multi-city nations in Civ4 terra map. It made sense from a historical point of view .

Hey ya'll, long time not chat!

Looks good, but one complaint - with all this work on Great Admirals...

Great Admirals
Themistocles: Instantly creates a Quadrireme unit. +20% Production towards units of the Naval Ranged promotion class.
Leif Erikson: +1 Sight Range for all naval units. Allows all naval units to move over ocean tiles without the required technology.
Rajendra Chola: +3 Combat Strength for all naval units.
Zheng He: Grants a free Trader unit in this city and increases Trade Route capacity by 1. Foreign Trade Routes to this city provides +2 Gold to both cities.
Francis Drake: Instantly creates a Privateer with 1 promotion level. Military units get +50% rewards for plundering sea Trade Routes.
Ferdinand Magellan: Grants 1 free copy of the Luxury resource on this tile to your Capital city. Gain 300 gold (on Standard speed).
Ching Shih: Gain 500 Gold (on Standard speed). Military units get +60% rewards for plundering sea Trade Routes.
Horatio Nelson: Instantly builds a Lighthouse and Shipyard in this district. +50% flanking bonus for all naval units.
Chester Nimitz: Instantly creates a Submarine unit with 1 promotion level. Grants 1 Oil per turn. +20% Production towards units of the Naval Raider promotion class.
Grace Hopper: Unlocks 2 random technologies.

...is there a way to get them out of a lake you never wanted them in yet!? Still close to useless if you are unfortunate enough for your largest city w/ port to be inland :wallbash: Or if you conquor someone else's, say, capital city that is in that position and suddenly any GA you get pops up there!

On the bouquet side of things I am stoked to finally have a hotkey for the reports screen
I know that appeared a little while back, but I haven't been here to compliment Firaxis for it.
