new MP mode - as someone who has several friends that play Civ, I'm VERY excited about this one!
On that note... shall we begin wild speculation on what that new MP mode may be? From his reaction he seemed to indicate it was something revolutionarily new. This means it’s more than just scenarios, specific victory conditions, or traditional gameplay.

My best guess/hope: world wars

This would be a combat mode where players get initial currency to build starting armies and cities that exist on turn 1. Players are also divided into factions during the prep phase. Once turn 1 starts, it’s a domination victory to the end.

I thought the new MP mode was just the Mirror option he mentioned?

I wonder what the surprise in the Terra map will be, is it just resources, more natural wonders spawned than in the old world, boosted barbarians.

Or is it a hint that there is some new content in this patch (natural wonders etc) that they have not yet revealed?

It probably just means luxuries and natural wonders. But it would be nice if it were new content.

Small events is not a bad idea, in which version/scenario do you had to bring back "treasure" units to your capital to get gold ?

Europeans (Spain, England, France..) cross the Atlantic in the "Conquest of the New World" (Civ5)! This scenario also offered a really nice map structure & well balanced goal(s), btw.

I don't think they meant anything by saying the other continent in Terra has "mystery" or whatever. Seemed like just a joke that people here are taking too seriously.
Maybe if you explore enough on Terra map, you will find the next expansion! :p

My guess is some kind of Battle Royale mode since that is all the rage now and most multiplayer games of civ devolve into that sort of thing without consideration of victory conditions.

How would that even work? That's basically a normal game of Domination Victory only. Hardly a new mode.
I don't even play battle Royale games but I guess you would have no uniques so there is no implicit advantage, just distinguishable civs. There would be a standard map (earth I guess) and a shrinking player zone perhaps through global warming.

Just for some context based on the last two major updates:

Antarctic Late Summer Update
Announcement video - Friday March 29
Dev Livestream - Friday March 29
Update released - Tuesday April 2

June Update
Announcement video - Monday June 3
Dev Livestream - Thursday June 6
Update released - Tuesday June 18

September Update
Announcement video - Tuesday September 3
Dev Livestream - ???
Update released - ???

If FXS does one, a livestream could happen as early as this week (tomorrow Thursday September 5??). The actual update going live could be as early as next week, or could be as far away as another two weeks. Personally, I get the impression from the video that it will drop later rather than sooner.

Wouldnt they have already announced a livestream if there was one? I think they are simply not doing one.

My personal hope for the new Multiplayer mode is a sort of "tower defense" mode similar to the Poland scenario, where waves of barbarians attack from around the globe to try to destroy everyone's empires. It would also be cool if it was an alien invasion, but that might be too Sci-fi. Maybe just a powerful empire is attacking you and your pals.
Also like a true tower defense, each wave would need to become stronger and with more units, so that at some point all of you are wiped out.
A mode like this would be so cool since I feel like we rarely ever get to play defensive games in Civ 6 with the AI not being all too threatening (Especially when you can just make friends with everyone rather easily). Actually getting a play a defensive game would mean forts actually matter, encampments at chokepoints matter a lot, and nukes would actually be useful as a defensive tool.

I doubt this will be the case, but ever since the Poland scenario I've seen the great potential Civ has for a tower defense gamemode.

This would imply that they are releasing sooner rather than later, with no time for a Livestream in between the announcement and the drop.

As for the 'Terra Mystery Bonus', I'm with @Gedemon in that a good mechanic would be Resources not available anywhere else. Let's face it, IRL the Americas provided Potato, Maize, Tobacco, Cacao, specialized fur (Beaver - I can't believe they added Canada and didn't add a special Beaver Resource) and, of course, the Peppers that have influenced so much 'Old World' cuisine. Given that Tobacco and Cacao are already in the game, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to add a couple more - and then randomize everything so you could never be sure which Bonus, Luxury, or even Strategic Resource in your game is exclusive to the 'Mystery Continent'.

A 'Natural Wonder' bonus has the problem that it is only available to One Civ/Player. That gives everybody a motive for an initial 'rush' to the continent, but once someone has nailed the Wonder, no reason to go back. Instead, a system where Resources you will really need at, say, the Renaissance Era and later are exclusive to the New World, so that you literally can't stay in the game without going there - or conquering all your neighbors really, really quickly in the 'Old World' - that would bring a whole new set of dynamics to play of the game on the Terra map as opposed to any other map type.

Not necessarily. The announcement for the June livestream was on the 5th - the day before. And, the one for the March livestream was on the 28th - also one day before. If they have one scheduled for next week, we probably won't know until next week. If it's this week then an announcement could be later today or tomorrow.
