GUWAHATI: The death toll in the serial blasts in Assam has risen to 6 with one person succumbing to his injuries overnight, officials said on
Friday.

"The death toll so far is six, with one of the injured succumbing to his injuries at a hospital," Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam government spokesperson and health minister, said.

Three bombs rocked Assam's main city of Guwahati on Thursday - two of the explosions went off in crowded marketplaces, while the third blast was beside a roadside garbage bin.

Five people died on the spot, while 51 more were wounded in the serial bombings.

"The condition of at least four of the injured was stated to be critical," the minister said.

Police and authorities blamed the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) for the attacks although the rebel group has not owned responsibility for the blasts.

"The ULFA is behind the explosions and intended to creating panic on new year's day," Assam police chief GM Srivastava said.

Home minister P Chidambaram, who arrived here soon after the blasts on a pre-scheduled visit, met the injured at the Guwahati medical college hospital on Friday.

Chidambaram is scheduled to hold a meeting of the Unified Command in Guwahati, to be attended by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, top police officials, besides army and paramilitary commanders, to review the security situation in the state.

Thursday's bombings comes after a wave of explosions Oct 30, when 90 people were killed and 300 injured in nine blasts in towns and cities across Assam, including three in Guwahati.
I blame Bangaldesh

Should have finished Bangladesh off in 1971. Ungrateful people.

That's nothing new and you speak about finishing Bangladesh as if you are killing a fly and not killing people

India should learn well from Israel and be merciless to its enemies.

Aren't you hater of the backward eastern people of India, especially Bihal?

God yes. Death to Bihar. Bangledesh can have Bihar.

Bangledesh is enemy?

ULFA has links to Bangladesh, the ISI. They're certainely not a friend. India should have just annexed Bangladesh rather than give it independence in 1971. Then again it is a craphole....

Contrary to the popular beliefs, ULFA doesn't have any direct link with China. However, it might have an indirect link in the sense that China wants to keep the North East region a vulnerable one for India. But ULFA reportedly has links with ISI of Pakistan or the Bangladesh establishment[4][5].

The Government of India accuses ULFA of maintaining links with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan and the DGFI of Bangladesh, and waging a proxy war on their behalf against India.

Well, I just can't believe a country bite back its liberators, do we? Well, does Castro count?

Especially after it was rescued from a genocide. Talk about ungrateful.''

At a meeting of the military top brass, Yahya Khan declared: "Kill 3 million of them and the rest will eat out of our hands." Accordingly, on the night of 25 March, the Pakistani Army launched Operation Searchlight to "crush" Bengali resistance in which Bengali members of military services were disarmed and killed, students and the intelligentsia systematically liquidated and able-bodied Bengali males just picked up and gunned down.

In East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) [General Agha Mohammed Yahya Khan and his top generals] also planned to murder its Bengali intellectual, cultural, and political elite. They also planned to indiscriminately murder hundreds of thousands of its Hindus and drive the rest into India. And they planned to destroy its economic base to insure that it would be subordinate to West Pakistan for at least a generation to come. This despicable and cutthroat plan was outright genocide.[28] ”

Rummel goes on to collate what he considers the most credible estimates published by others into what he calls democide. He writes that "Consolidating both ranges, I give a final estimate of Pakistan's democide to be 300,000 to 3,000,000, or a prudent 1,500,000."

Yeah how dare India ask them not to support terrorist organizations? What an outrageous request.

I think serial means it was one right after the other? At least, that's what HOI2 tells me...

This is getting to be too common in India. How much of this is related to Pakistan's instability? Conflict between the two appears more imminent every day.

Don't be hatin' silver. Or I'll find you. And you DON'T want that. :p
