SGFN-08: Random AWM Succession Game

Great job! Especially the well-conducted invasion in Scandinavia. (Indeed we didn't need an Army over there, and you proved it.)
The only slight slackness is: no ships ready in the Murmansk area and at Ergili for attacking the islands...

We now have the exact value of the domination limit: only 511 tiles missing! 357 can be settled on our continent, 100 more on Scandinavia, and the three island will give us the rest. Perhaps we should already send our Beta Army north again to take and keep 2-3 undefended Babylonian/Aztec towns. Both are without saltpeter, so that should be possible. Then we don't need to tackle the Russian bear.

This is probably the technically correct way, but it'd be more fun to beat them down... :hammer:

If we're looking at using the army to take something... who's got the cash? That's the right one to try to take a couple of towns from. Better to just raze them than to try to keep, though.

Quicky question. When trying for domination, do coast tiles count or is a coastal city less helpful than settling inland? I'm doing a lot of gap filling with settlers in my turn set and am looking to maximize coverage.

Sea tiles within the 21 tile area of a city count, ocean tiles do not.

Thanks. I was pretty sure coast counts. As any new cities will never get culture, settling on the coast makes sense.

Sorry about the Murmansk area invasion fleet. Most of the time I was worried about shipping units to Scandinavia as they arrived at the Konigsberg area. So most of our ships up there were carrying units, not heading south. Overall, I'd like to win by conquering the Beta Continent, but if no one else does, I'll be fine with settling our continent.

I guess i had the wrong idea of sea tiles. I know the light blue counts, the dark blue doesn't. Oh, and I think trash our enemies as much as you can, winning by settling is kind of boring.

Do we have a consensus? Quick and dull or long and bloody?
I've already palyed out 4 or 5 turns and have wiped the Vikings off their continenrt and am assembling a flotilla for an invasion of the small island (or perhaps Beta continent) while doing a lot of filling gaps by settling. I can go either way.

I think the quickest way to win is to do both, if possible. Settle our gaps and work to maximize domination tiles, while moving the attack overseas. Every tile we take there is less cities we have to settle ourselves.

Doing both would be nice. I'd like the invasion force to go after Beta Continent. A two-city island doesn't concern me right now, even if we could win by taking it.

More relevantly, we can send units to Beta and then have units in production now delivered to the island, and still take the island in plenty of time to have it help us win. That gives the units on Beta more time to wreak havoc.

Or ignore the island and have some more bloody fun.

Status report:
I'm on turn 7, should finish tonight or Saturday. Much of my turn set is getting ships in position to ferry forces and lots of worker activity. I did manage so far to get 2 new leaders repelling landings by small invading forces. I probably won't be able to launch the heroic assault on Beta Continent but next up should be able to get it rolling.

That's right. We have all those units, so we should of course use them... :hammer:
Shields go into cavs, cash goes into settlers: that way we leverage all our resources in the best way.

Eventful turnset.
Highlights: Completed conquest of the Vikings. Repelled various minor landings. Brought us to steam and started haphazard railing. Started shipping troops to Beta for a conquest of the Aztecs who have been royal pains. I planned to use the beta army for cover when the units landed, but lost the Beta army. It was possibly cause I overlooked cav zone of control which left it wounded by 1 health and the Aztecs picked it to pieces (Sorry).
Filled in lots of gaps on our continent, approaching Domination.

I was researching towards Electricity rather than Nationalism looking towards replaceable parts with arty and infantry. The group should consider Nationalism with all our highly corrupt but well fed cities that are also sparsely defended, drafting for defense or shileds plus war economy might not be a better idea.

Sorry I didn't have a coordinated approach to assaulting the Beta continent. (I've got 3 unfilled armies for example) Lots of our forces were scattered all over a wide area on the Persian/Greek subcontient and Vikingland and rounding them up while repelling landings was challenging.
Any constructive criticsim would be welcome.

Does that put me up? If so, I've got it and speak quickly if you have any particularly clever comments. Labor Day Weekend means I should get it played fairly quickly.

I think we should build a few frigates to defend our Beta and Island Invasion Forces, they also can provide artillery support. Overall, over 2 turnsets, we've eliminated 3 civs. That's good. I would also like to suggest landing our invasion force in the northern parts of Beta continent, then push south, conquering the Aztecs.
