PNI sees majority disappear in 2028 Elections
The New Imperial Party has awakened to a reduced majority in the General Assembly as they have lost four seats from 13 to 9 in recent elections. The wars in Pernambuco and Entre Rios has cost the PNI support with only a strong economy keeping the PNI from loosing more seats. The Democratic Party gained two seats with millions of new rural voters benefiting from Rural Improvement and Social Welfare programs championed by the Democrats. The Popular Labour Party retained all of their seats. What surprised many was the election of the first Assembly member of the Corporatist Party of Brasil from the Province of Uruguay. This is a first for a young party formed only a few years ago. Local elections have also seen the reduction of PNI holds with a working coalition of Democratic and Popular Labor party forming a loyal opposition in the provinces. Both Democratic and Popular Labor leaders have called for a national focus on trade and social welfare spending in the rural provinces to bring them up to urban living standards. The Imperial and Corporatists continue to focus on military strength and technological development to enhance the status of the country.
