Sid variant

played four turns. MM'ed cities, rushed harbor in iron city after the chop, started upgrading troops. Athens is a tough nut to crack, it has no less than 7 veteran hoplites in size 8 city. Now amassing troops near Athens, will attack next turn with 10 attack 4 units and some trebuchet support. Also French declared war on Persians.

No flips but Knossos has one resister so i put one MI near city in case it flips. The conquest is slow, but after we capture Athens (just a matter of time) their cities will fall much faster. So what's after Greece?Babylon? If we can conquer Bab/Greece continent, ICS it and make science farms that's all we need to keep up in tech and peaceful victories like diplo and spaceship should be easy achievable

510AD: MM cities for taxmen instead of entertainers as we got more happiness;sell granary and barracks in Sparta;change few builds to settlers in corrupted towns

IT:Two biggest civs go to war - Persia declared war on French;French galley near our borders, what they are up to?

520AD: start assault on Athens: 2 of 6 trebs hits defenders, so there are at least 3 vet hoplites in size 8 city fortified, probably more
risk and attack VetHorse vs vet hoplite, lose, but takes 3 hit points from hoplite; VetHorse vs vet hoplite 4/4 -> horse retreats inflicting no damage, stop attack
rush harbor in iron city;rush barracks in west green for 90 gold (for upgrading warriors and horses)

IT: ....

530AD: this time 5 trebs hit defenders in athens, vet hoplite on top, at least 6 vet hoplites in size8 athens. upgrade warriors and few horses. preparing ship chain

IT:....

540AD: bomb Athens, 6 trebs suceed, still vet hoplite showing, at least 7 of them in Athens;amassing troops near Athens, now we have 9 trebs, 6 attack 4 units and 4 horses, prolly will wait one more turn to attack to make sure we win as reinforcements are coming

IT: Persians asks alliance vs France, say no; Greeks unload some troops near Knossos;France has Free Artistry, they are building Shake's Theater

550AD: bomb Athens, but don't attack;ship chain troops

IT: babs moving towards greek cities; France finishes Magellan

560AD: raze Athens with a loss of a knight and 2 longbows;found new town near the ruins of Athens

IT: ...

570AD: marching troops;ship chaining

IT: Greece and Persia signs MA vs Sumeria;research Metallurgy ->Military Tradition (due in 7);war wearriness kicks in, capital riots,

580AD: prepare units to attack next turn;ship chain a bit;set lux to 10%

IT: Persians building Smith's;

590AD: take Corinth, take Delphi (4 resistors) with a loss of 2 knights and 3 MI's;cancel MA vs Greece with Babylon and sign peace with Greece for one town (WW slows our research and it would take a while to regroup and land on Heraclea island) leaving Greece with 4 cities;spot babs knight;MM cities again after lowering lux slider

IT: Babs troops moving;resistance in Delphi ends

600AD: France has Physics but won't trade it for Metallurgy, so no trade;

IT: Greece and Babylon sign peace

After we learn Mil Tradition in 4 turns it's perfect time to attack Babylon. Our military is average to them according to military advisor. Now we have 15 knights, and 10 other attack 4 units, around 20 trebs and 16 musketmen near Babylon border. By the time we will get MT we will have 20+knights, so itis 20+ cavalry after upgrades. Lux deal with Babylon ends in 3 turns so we are free to attack. Also Babs are trading iron from France so we may sign MA vs Babylon with them and pillage horses with explorer so they couldn't build knights. There are around 20 Babylon's attack 4 units near our borders in the screenshot, so if we attack carefully (attacking just on flat land and fortifying muskets on mountains and hills) we might succeed.

France has Physics but won't trade it for Metallurgy and some gold. We have gold so try partially rushing knights (accumulate shields for a few turns and then rush to musket, then switch back to knight, cities with 10 spt will still complete it in one turn)

Also there are some gems near borders of Corinth, so we might rush lib or relocate Corinth one tile south to get gems in our cultural borders.

looks like excellent progress :goodjob:

I agree to upgrade the knights and then get at Babs with cavalry

btw, who is up?

had a look at the game and it is at a critical stage. I want the team to give some input about important decisions during my set.

Research:
We will get MT in 4 turns and then have only physics left. France has physics but won't part with it unless we chip in a lot of money. Are we allowed to do that? Would we be willing to sell them metal in a few turns when a big gpt of them runs out? Then trade MT for physics?
Or wait for Persia to gain physics? Meanwhile go for no research?

Military:
The war against Babylon will soon start. If we use hwachas we get our Golden Age. Are we fine with that?
I will short rush a few more knights to upgrade.
Are we taking Babylon cities and keep them or raze and replace or take and abandon replace?

It is in spirit of variant to get Physics for Met+gpt and then sell MT for gpt.
Or better to get Economy and sell Economy for gpt to France.
Or research "partially" Physics and then trade... I prefer have GA at era starts (or so). Before babs war we may trade PPress. We may defenetly keep Thermophyle. Not sure about core Bab's Cities.

save

Pre-Turn
no deals yet as only France has physics, we should wait for Persia to get that as well
I remove all the taxmen and replace them with scientists..they are ALWAYS better as they give 3 beakers
war camp is switched to court as it has high corruption, same for Haeju

we can drop science to 90% and gain around additional 40gpt this way

1.620AD
nothing really, get 20 gold from America for a WM, rush university in Kaesong for 48gold
partially rush a knight in our capital for 40g and a settler in NWWhale for 28gold

IT Babs throw out our scouts

2. 630AD
part rush 3 more knights

IT spice deal with Russia gets canceled

3.640AD
get back the lux for monotheism
well, Persia doesn't seem to need our 2 luxes any longer, too bad for them
will try and use the 2 luxes to get economics next turn when we trade
am able to reduce science to 80%

IT France now pays a lot less for the lux deal, they would pay a ton for metal though
Sumer want a peace deal, I decline
we get MT

4.650AD
upgrade our existing knights to cavalry (16 of them so far)
found Hamhung

trade metal + 61gpt to France for physics
manage to get economics + 6gpt for physics and metal from Persia
sell it to France for 110gpt, they do have magnetism already
set research to ToG in 7

rush court in Haeju

IT cancel deal with Babylon

5. 660AD
we need to run 10% lux as we no longer have furs now
time has come for a war with Babylon

move the cavalry on mountain near Thermopylae, we need to get rid of the stacks before being able to attack and move in
try to place slow units and artillery units strategically to counter the enemy moves

IT Babylon moves a big stack from the mountains within reach of our artillery
a knight moves next to Pharsalos

6. 670AD
attack the stack, bring down the pikes to 2hp ach
then take out 6 maces, 2 spear, 6 pikes, 4 LB
do not lose a single unit, get some elite promotions. As there is another stack nearby, I refrain from
taking Thermopylea, rather wait a turn

as we can't afford to lose a city for WW reasons, sell rax and harbor and abandon Pharsalos
rush aqueduct in Sariwon as it hit the pop limit

IT Babylon behaves as I could not have wished better as they move again into the death trap
they lose a LB against a musket on mountain, Greece starts to run towards hat empty land now

7.680AD
bomb that stack and take out 9 units, lose a mace
Thermopylae has a musket on top now, lose 2 cavs, but defeat 1 musket, 2 pikes and a LB and take the city
we get 17 slaves, send one out to claim gems as a colony next turn

ship in a new cav that takes out a mace that moved onto out cities
well, since we have gems now, I am able to reduce lux to 0% and we drop ToG to 4 turns

take out a stack of pike/spear/knight and 2 LB next to Thermopylea on hills without losses
move in muskets so we can put them into Eridu next turn if we attack there

IT Thermo comes out of resistance and riots
French start Newton and finish Shakes

8.690AD
we have still 3 turns to ToG
we get extra gems now and could trade it to France.
we could get ToG+PP and 92gpt for MT
reduce science for now to 80%

attack Eridu, take out 2 pikes and muskets, again no leader
take out a distant LB and block the Greek settler so we can send in our own

I stop here so we can decide what to do with the tech trading
we can get magnetism after ToG in 6 turns currently

The pic below shows the troops movement. The green arrow shows a settler pair to go claim the land. I would cash rush settlers once the cities on the Island hit pop 3

larkin690.jpg

OK. I looked at save and think that we may reseach MT and "see". Then buy Physics from Fance or research (partially ?) ourselves. May be we may disband Knossos? (Change to Worker?) 2 tiles have to be blocked in this case. On other Greek Cities rush Libs. Border will expand befor Babylon's war. We may also ask "Greeks remove or declare". WW will drop, but may be not that much. may be let them stay. Pharspholos might be a "problem" to defence... Hope Rat will manage.
"Crossposted"
So you will continue 2 turns? What about Magnetism? Costs a lot?

I posted as I think we should decide. I checked again and we would get 110gpt +PP/ToG for MT. I would do that and then maybe research magnetism ourselves.

We will get a free tech, hope it's steam.

I would also use cash to rush some stuff like library as mentioned.

Once we agree, I will finish 2 more turns, no problem.

Good progress against Babyblon :goodjob:

Probably trading MT for ToG is the best decision in this situation, then full speed towards IA. Maybe rush settler in Thermopylae to replace Eridu if it has high chances of flipping or to claim some more land

well, I' d like to tradee for Steam and Medecine and get whatever "above" for free. Hopfully most of the babs will be over, but some will remain...

ok, make the deal as discussed
get 115gpt PP and ToG for MT, magnetism in 6
rush 3 cavs, 2 libraries and a settler

9. 700AD
I am annoyed by Greek troops blocking our land, ask them to remove and they comply
attack Ashur, this is a tougher nut to crack, lose 3 cavs but take out
4 muskets, 1 mace, 1 knight and 1 LB, gain 7 slaves as there were settlers inside

rush settler in Thermopylae

IT Babylon loses a mace against our exposed cav, that took out a settler
Ashur riots, Incense from France runs out, but with 2 new luxes, we don't really need it

10.710AD
take out a settler pair from Babs. Take out a lone pike with ecav and gain a leader
attack samarra and take out 2 pikes. The city should be ours next turn

set up units, but the next player has to decide where to go. The army will surely help now

I did not move mos of them as we can either move them on to the
mountain near Babylon or move towards Elipi

I would us the slow stack with the many artillery to go after Elipi (and gain a GA using hwacha for a kill)
and use the cavalry to go after Babylon

a settler is in position to found a city next turn, more on the way
we need more workers as well for rails

Persia has a ton of money now and maybe we should sell them MT or ToG for 165gpt
We can also cancel the alliance against Sumer and maybe gain some more luxes from there

save

I dont think that we needs Sumeria's Lux as they provide 3 happy faces. But may be Lux better...Will think.
Anyhow I think we can sell to Persia ToG. And then Cancel MA vs Sumeria. What do you think about an idea to bring them to war vs America?
(Me up).

Sorry for delay. I was so focused on war vs America in C' 43. Did not finish yet, but they are "done". Will play this game today.

Sorry, just played 4 turns. Game become harder and harder, + pre Xmass rush at work... + 2 more important games. In brief: We are at IA, with GA and got Ironclads as a free tech. >>it happends...
Babylon finished at continent. Don't know if we kill them all.
What research next? Sanitation? How to replan Cities? At the beginig we did not thought about it, and now it is hard, you know...

what? we got ironclads? I didn't know we can get an optional tech for free? Or did you trade for all 1st tier techs in th IT?

I would not replant cities and they all give us unit support that we need. Replanting would take away a lot of infra as well, which I would vote against. I would us the Babylon Island to go for city spam for more scientists and unit support.

I' trade Steam from Greece and Medecine from Germans. I expected Industrialisation, Electricity, Sanitation or Nationalism. I did not Trade Nationalism (because it is expensive and big chanses to get Comm / Fashism as free Tech), But first time in my life I got Ironclads...
Fortunately I did not gift much. Now Germany become reachest and most advanced...

If we will not replant Cityes it is poitless to research sanitation. But current Infra very poor. Even at GA we have to research 7 turn Sanitation...
