SimCity 5

The civitas thing has been the weirdest thing to follow. The project lead kept promising things that never came and doesn't seem to understand very basic things about the development of a project of this scale - for example promising a full beta to be released in a matter of months, when it appears as though all he ever had was a bit of a terraforming tool, and not even an alpha (or a very basic alpha) in terms of a game engine. I have no idea how he'd open the beta process in a couple months time and release a full game in november. I highly doubt there's somebody funding him, unless it's a rich friend or something. It really seems like this is saving face.. But at the same time he's saying that the project is moving forward. Maybe he's just going to work on this in his spare time, without any funding, and is going to try to show us up with an awesome beta. Which will just get more interesting as he starts releasing stuff, since he seems to be one of those guys who lacks a lot of soft. dev. skills and as such much knowledge in terms of what is needed for a project like this. But it looks like he really has worked for a couple gaming studios before, so he should know better. I hope he isn't remortgaging his house and financing the project like that. IIRC he wanted to spend a big chunk of the $250k on some sort of software or something like that.

One can choose a free game from EA because of the bad launch:

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

Now everyone who bought the new SimCity can experience fully functioning, single-player SimCity.

I was hoping for the BF3 Deluxe and Mass Effect 3 was like 20$ anyway

Blurg I guess I'll just go with ME3

The funny thing is SC4 performs poorly and crashes continuously in current machines. So, now they are going to get another avalanche of people complaining because his SC4 doesnt work properly either.

SC4 isn't design well for multi cores but you can command it to only use one. I haven't had a single crash since I did that. You can also run it in xp compatibility mode to help. And turn off shadows. They kill it for some reason. It runs very fast and well for me.

Why would you a free dragon age origins? Game is like $10 on amazon.

Well, would you look at that, SimCity sold 1.1. million copies thus far. That means more than $66 million for EA. Looks like single-player SimCity is history, folks!

Even EA does not get the entire $60 price tag. While I am sure the stock holders will see this is a success, I suspect sales won't keep up that pace.

For me it works fine until city reaches certain size. At that point poor performance makes the game unplayable (in an i7 2600k) and starts crashing no matter how many cores. I still have to try tne shadow trick though.

I think someone mentioned a SimCity 4 launcher that helps with the multicore thing.

Yep, i am using it. Very useful.

Terrible list. At least offer premium/deluxe/gold editions of games where it's applicable. Where's Dragon Age? The Sims? etc. Consume body byproducts and perish EA.

I appreciate it wasn't quite to the same level but Blizzard gave away nothing when the Diablo 3 launch suffered from constant connection issues for the first week or two.

Blizzard got their issues fixed sooner, and didn't blame the consumers when things went wrong.
