Yes, but for most people the mobility of a laptop is kind of important. I'd love to have a desktop, but the truth is I need the laptop at this point in my life, and having the two computers just isn't a feasible approach.
And at some point, you have to consider WHAT they're sacrificing. The sacrifice to go down from only a six months old laptop to a two years old one is mostly in terms of a slowly development of graphic capability. The sacrifice from that down to tablet is much larger, and down to cellphones even more so.
But if tablets ever reach the point where their popularity is enormous and the sacrifice required to include them in the audience is not so big, yes, I'd fully expect - and support - companies deciding to make the game tablet-functional.
