Small Observations General Thread (things not worth separate threads)

Probably posted already but suzerain bonus science city state (Babylon in this case)

Are these choices the same by type? I assume they change by age
As far as I can tell there are a set of bonuses to choose from that are presented by city-state type. They do change per Age.

The choices are from a pool by type, but different IP's will have different choices. I'm not sure whether it's random or predetermined by IP.

Spearmen upgrade to Phalanx (no surprise), but there doesn't appear to be any bonus vs. cavalry.

Weird. I thought we had seen that units in each got a periodic "upgrade" but retained the same name. With only 5 strength difference between each tier here, there doesn't seem to be much opportunity for that. Or was that only for unique units, to keep them relevant for the duration of an age?

In Marbozir's video on Commanders, we can finally see some tier 3 units: Pikemen, Bombards, Musketmen and whatever the tier 3 cavalry is (lance icon). (He's playing as Chola here.) Note that Musketmen and Pikemen coexist and are both tier 3.

One thing that can be discerned is that the tier 3 cavalry are the same as the matchlock pistol-bearing horsemen seen earlier.

Warrior upgrades to Spearman. So there isn't a separate upgrade line for anti-cavalry.

I'm pleased by that. Designating some infantry types as anti-cav felt very forced in Civ 6 to me. Spearmen units historically were raised to fight other spearmen units, not cavalry. Rock-paper-scissors can sometimes be fine at the level of grand strategy, but the consistent way it was applied throughout the game diminished the differences in combat in different ages.

According to Van Bradley on Reddit, content Creators are allowed to release another hour of footage now.
Several of the streamers previously said their next embargo date is Feb 3, and I haven't seen any new video from the streamers who have already released an hour. Marbozir just posted a video today in which he said he can only post stills, not more video.

My understanding was Feb 03 was a review-or-close-to-it embargo, where they could show off all three ages? Way this post is phrased made it seem different, and more immediate. I could be wrong.

Not 100% sure if I've seen a tooltip call them "Cuirassiers" before. Would not surprise me either way, though.

I love that we now have more organic Pike & Shot formations!

Cuirassiers are the Modern tier 1 cavalry.

If I had to guess, I'd suggest that the Exploration tier 3 are called something like Lancers or Hussars.

Ursa hosted a Civ 7 q and a today while streaming Civ 6, and I was able to confirm a few things there have been questions about recently:
- Great Works cannot be carried over to the following age
-Warehouse buildings cannot be overbuilt on (so plan wisely! Or maybe skip them in your capital entirely.)
- Confirmed only Traditions carry over from a civ’s unique Civic Tree

I’m sure there was more info but that’s all I can think of at the moment (should’ve taken notes lol)

Man now I'm hoping some of the artifacts we uncover during the modern era actually correlate to great works from previous eras. I t would be a cool detail whenever it happened.

Maybe somebody already noticed this, but it looks like the Roman Basilica changed from a Culture Adjacency bonus to an Influence Adjacency bonus. Very nice.

WHAT?!
1. Tier 3 cavalry emblem is couched lance. but Chola cav shows here carries wheellock pistol (historically inaccurate). So the name chosen is Reiter maybe?
And it shown up BEFORE gunpowder tech. which enabled bombards and musketeers!
Same problem of the franchise has not been solved. 'misplaced units and text. this time, musketeers did NOT preceeds cannonneers.
it could be (and should be) corrected in expansions.
The other historical inaccuracy is that wheellock pistols are exported worldwide. Quite a contrary, matchlock pistols are developed everywhere OUTSIDE Europe.
^ And made as horse pistols
2. Musketeers are NOT infantry class anymore. instead they're ranged (with ranges of two hexes. I Think about the same as crossbows).
What actually gave them that long range is that light regimental cannons, particularly by 1630s with Gustav Adolph assigned so many light field cannons to musketeers company (and even tagged them with cavalry!)
So 'Pike and Shotte' for everyone else is now manual settings in Civ7. only Spain can do pre-mix Pike and Shotte (since it is a UU 'Tercio').
Is this speculation confirmed as well?
And this is how 'Three-stage campaign' gameplay is pursured to core, right?
