Small Observations General Thread (things not worth separate threads)

Now all we need is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch of the Welsh. :mischief:

Unless it ends up being a British city. :shifty:
Nah, the definitive Welsh settlement would be Dylan Thomas' Llareggub, with its built-in nose thumb at all the literary critics.

The winner, of course, would be the Nipmuc name for the infamous lake in Massachusettes:

Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg

Slap a Dun in front of it and it could be Pictish . . .

Curious that the Hospital creates -3 Happiness.
And the dungeon +happiness. I know why it is listed that way for the mechanics, but in my head:

Happiness is mandatory. Non-happiness is prohibited by penalty of law.

Statements like that always remind me of the fictional Police Motto from one of L. Sprague deCamp's books:

"All that is Not Compulsory is Forbidden"

Also... Any idea on this? According to Google this is "Victoria City" in Antiquity... So IDK

It is possible that 维陀城 is the Chinese rendering of the Sanskrit word "Veda-nagara" or "City of the Vedas", although I am not sure if that is a name of a historical city or just a philosophical analogy.

From Arioch's page, here is a marine unit but isn't the guy on the left holding a bazooka?

I wonder if it is for flavor or if you can get support units like that.

We've seen all the generic infantry units for the Modern Age. There's no anti-cavalry class anymore, so the bazooka is just a bit of flavor.

So maybe the Vedda people of Sri Lanka?

It took me some time to realize that the icon of Kaolin is a bowl of porcelain clay rather than a bowl of sugar cubes. And I can definitely see some potential for guanyin clay gags here

I still see a bowl of sugar cubes, even knowing what it's supposed to be. Maybe the icon could be replaced with, I don't know, a porcelain vase or something? :p

From this video:
  • Disaster yield bonuses are removed at age transition
  • Natural wonders can get disaster yield bonuses, and the Expedition Outpost (?) is not pillaged
  • Natural wonders’ base yields improve at age transition apparently
  • Ben Franklin is typically a warmonger, Amina is not
  • There are rarely (never?) costs listed on tooltips for techs and civics
  • When a leader is eliminated, their suzerained city states disappear also
  • Non-navigable rivers do not give fresh water to adjacent tiles, need to settle on top of them for the happiness bonus

  • When a leader is eliminated, their suzerained city states disappear also
That seems very odd, would make more sense imo for them to return to being hostile villages.

This is a problem throughout the UI -- costs aren't displayed for buildable items in the menu either. I think you actually have to go into the Civilopedia to find the costs of anything.
