Small Observations General Thread (things not worth separate threads)

All the time. German AFVs were all have camoes after 1940. and desert khaki is favorite color but i'm not sure if snow white painted hulls did exists.
German vehicles were issued from the factory in dark gray up to 1943, then in dark yellow. 'Desert Yellow' paint was issued to units deploying to Africa, but they had to paint the vehicles themselves (and sometimes didn't get anything to repaint, so that the 5th Panzer Division, originally scheduled for Afrika Korps, went into the Battle of Moscow in 1941 with its vehicles still painted in Desert Yellow, which did them no good at all against the dark Russian forests!). White paint was issued as it was available (and sometimes was 'procured' by units using unofficial means) for winter camouflage, but again was applied by the units themselves.

Camouflage patterns were standardized by early 1943, but were applied in the field. Most of the panzer units seem to have been issued spray apparatus to apply these, but the exact colors used seem to have varied considerably depending on what was available - frequently it was only a single dark green, brown, gray, or even black color applied irregularly over the dark yellow base. In late 1944 an elaborate 'ambush pattern' of camouflage involving several base colors and dotted over-pattern was introduced, but only a few units seem to have gotten all the materials needed to apply it.

It looks like there's no win as Napoleon achievements.
A bit of French Hubris in the game: Napoleon is Expected to Win, there's nothing special about it . . .

Aha, so it's his fault all our leaders our French. :mischief:

It's definitely meant to be a Hummel. The rear slope is less pronounced but it's there.

Oh, I have no doubt that it was meant to be a Hummel: all the artillery they have shown so far in late Modern Age are 150mm or heavier pieces in both towed and self-propelled configurations, and the only other self-propelled piece similar in open-topped configuration to this one would be the German 'Wespe' 10.5 cm piece with a very distinctive and obvious muzzle brake that this graphic is missing.

What will be interesting is to see which Modern Age Civs get to use it as a 'cultural/geographical' type graphic: IRL only Bulgaria and Rumania actually got any besides Germany, and then not until after 1945 and in tiny numbers.

They are a little bit more complicated. There are some in which there are more than two choices, and some in which you're choosing between a quick sum and a quest to complete or the prospect of a future choice.
Interestingly, I am reading in reviews that this is a common complaint: choosing between X and Y, with little actual narrative value.

The ones that are prompted by gameplay decisions appear to mostly be binary one-shot narrative events while the ones tied to civs and leaders are sequential and sometimes offer additional options.

According to boesthius, settlement with fresh water gets +5 happiness but it's not explained in Civilopedia. He had to ask dev for this.

Yes, the Civiliopedia appears to be long on background text and short on actual game information.

Well, even when there are more than two choices or when you're choosing between an immediate benefit and a quest with a potentially greater benefit, you're still just choosing between yields or bonuses. I don't think any of them have actual "narrative value;" from what I've seen, the players completely ignore the flavor text and focus strictly on the rewards, as the former has no actual impact on the game.

Yeah honestly I think the only reason we’re all underwhelmed by civ 7 UI is because we got used to civ 6 mods and forgot that civ 6 native UI was just as bad.

This Polygon article brings out a point about the Switch 2 Joy Con mouse function in Dennis Shirk's interview with IGN:

“It is definitely intriguing,” Shirk said. “You always do some trade-offs when you have to deal with pure console controls. And the announcement has some great stuff in it. I love what they’re doing with the controllers. It’s all very cool. That’s about all I can say about it in terms of an opinion. I think it looks awesome and they’re not wrong, so it would be cool for something like that.”

IGN characterized Shirk’s response as both “coy” and “teasing,” possibly insinuating some implied subtext that doesn’t translate through text alone. If any studio were to test out this potential Switch 2 functionality, Civilization developer Firaxis would be a good choice. Civ is commonly played on PC, like many grand strategy games, but always comes out on console, too, despite controllers being widely considered less efficient for this style of game. Civilization 7 will be launched on PC and consoles, including the Switch, on Feb. 11, so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if it ends up being compatible with Switch 2, too, which Nintendo has promised to launch within 2025.

Could they, though? UI mods are practically required to play Civ6 for any amount of time without going insane... Firaxis doesn't have a great track record in UI design.

Ima just say they had an opportunity but that path was not chosen.

Maybe the UI of previous titles were bad, but it looks like Civ 7's one is the worst. No tech queues? Tech cost is not shown in the game?
Definitely seems to be worst so far (but all were bad)... but a Lot of room for improvement (UI is one thing they are looking at improving soon)

I feel justified in my decision to wait out the first few patches yeah.
