Small Observations General Thread (things not worth separate threads)

Not directly from the game, but still.

I thought this Epic Rap Battle of History was a curious coincidence, and then 2:10 (and video description) happened.

Even Tasting History was sponsored. Which kinda fits.

Pretty minor thing, but apparently ranged units can cap cities in Civ 7. Melee and Cav units are easier to do this with since they will immediately occupy the tile that they're attacking, but in previous sessions, I was able to capture a city by moving a Field Cannon onto the city center once its fortification was reduced to dust.

Yeah, I noticed that... naval units can do it too. I think any military unit can capture a district if the defenses are down and there's no defending unit.

Adding onto this, naval units can capture Districts through Coastal Raids, even if they can’t sail into them! The same holds true for Naval Commanders.

Speaking of, during my time with the Chola I noticed I was able to command a ranged attack from ships with no movement left, if they hadn’t attacked twice in that turn already (Chola’s unique ship can attack twice). I don’t know if that’s intentional or Chola-specific, but it’s in the game!

I noticed that too. It's particularly useful as you can use costal raid to heal and attack in a same turn.

I haven't been able to double check this myself, but I've heard some folks experiencing similarly regarding settlement limits:

And if that above part is true, then it's really important imo to get to those techs and civics that give [+] settlement bonuses.

I think that causes real problems with some things like Xerxes who gets some bonuses that end up stacking on top of themselves. (ie +1 higher in Antiquity which carries over as a base and then get an additional +2 higher in Exploration which carries over as a base and then +3 in Modern... so he ends up about 6 higher than the base .... when he should really only be 3 higher)... essentially excess Antiquity->Exploration makes it easier to get excess Exploration->Modern... so they get effectively doubled.

Given the low level of penalty for going over the limit, its probably easier just letting that number drop a bit... if your cities are slightly unhappy at the beginning of an age... well you can go for those settlement Limit and Happiness boosts to stabilize your empire.

If your buildings can go obsolete than so can your imperial management (otherwise a bit OP for Mongols/Rome/Xerxes)

What’s the source? If you got the +1 from leader attributes (military or expansionist path) or wonders (El Escorial), that should carry over to the next era obviously. Extras from civs (Rome, Mongols, Normans) shouldn’t carry over afaik. I never checked though.

I got that info from here:

Supposedly the info from that list has been correct so far.

Ships can sail through ice. Maybe it's a bug, but I don't care because it's letting me get past Catherine, who's refusing to open her borders.

I can't do this with my ships, even in the Modern Age, so there must be some special ability you have, or something else is going on.

Also, recently I have noticed that when I play Maya under Isabella and Maurya under Ashoka WC, I can purchase the Villa in Towns, when I couldn't do that before with other leaders, anyone knows why? (One of my friends confirmed that he couldn't do that when he played as the Maya with a different leader).
