This thing looks like a PoS. I mean really, it seems to do all that a netbook does, but at twice the price and more cumbersome.
People will buy it so they can be smug about not being a Bill Gates drone. A very stupid reason, but most fanboys are very stupid.
I plan on getting an iPad. Right now, I find myself using a laptop in unfriendly places (I'm writing this on a bed, while leaning on my right elbow). I've also been changing my screen orientation and reading sideways, for digitized magazines and newspapers. That will be much easier on a touchscreen.
I'm also excited by the iPad's potential as a PC peripheral. On the iPhone, there are a ton of apps which allows you to use the PC remotely, like Photoshop or VLC. There are also remote trackpads and keyboards. With the iPad's large screen, these apps would become so much better. Imagine using MS word with an app which exposes all the ribbons on a touchscreen (assuming that MS Word would make such an app), or a 10" trackpad, or a keyboard filled with nothing but special keys (great for bilingual cities like Montreal).
Gaming should also be very good on the iPad. It's perfect for board games, I could have interesting RTS gameplay. I wonder what it would be like to play an accelerometer-control first-person POV game on this thing. You hold the thing directly in front of you, look up in the real world, and look up in the virtual world as well. I've tried that for iPhone flying games. It works well, there's a good VR experience, but the screen is too small.
I don't think that for most people that's an issue, since they need to look at the keyboard anyways. That's how I'm typing this, at least. I think the main problem with the keyboard is it severely limits the text-displayed on screen, but I suppose we'll (or I'll) get used to it.But what I don't understand is, how the hell do you type on that thing? You either prop it up with one hand and type with the other (extremely annoying), or lay it flat and look down on it (also, extremely annoying). I mean, with the iPhone at least it was small enough in which you could hold it with both hands and type with your thumbs, but with this thing...

Although I am skeptical, don't get me wrong, I'd love to play with one. It could be one of those things that you don't really know you want or need until you get used to it. If you carry around a briefcase or any sort of bag of papers anywhere you could lug one of these around without much extra trouble I guess.
Well the interface is rather awesome. It'd be nice to be not have to scroll side to side to read CFC![]()
