So why was CFC down (on and off) the last 3 days?

I never seem to have a problem when I try to log on. Must be my amazing timing. I must be working or something when the fora go down.

If in the USA, its MOST of the time after midnight to 6 am, but it will occasionally go out for hours during Monday, and Thursday. Alot(well not alot but some) during the weekend.:(

You know you don't have to spend 24/7 on this forum.
But how else will we stay on the cutting edge of internet news?

It's not about being on 24/7. It's about being able to log on for the hour or two a day that we spend here. Not all of us can be as fortunate as Lefty.

Server is too busy twice this morning, it's not looking good :(.

Perhaps we should occupy the server.

Can someone explain to me how much of a problem it is to move servers?

Sure. It's a big problem.

Snark-free answer: You need to build the new website and back-end database at a new site, transfer to and restore an old data backup to the new site, test the new site without pointing public DNS at it (which depending on how the website communicates to the database could cause problems that will go away when the DNS does get pointed over, but still blocks adequate testing), take the old site down, backup the latest data and transfer that over to the new site and restore it there, then repoint the DNS at the new site and hope you haven't missed/overlooked replicating any peculiar settings you may have adjusted during the old site's ten years of operation or that the new site's underlying servers have any differences that will cause issues.

Poop. Thanks for explaining though.

And hope no data gets lost in the transfer "WHERE DID MY THREAD GO?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!!!!!!!!!!!"

I hope you're at least getting some free hosting out of this, my webhost gives away a month of free hosting anytime there's a couple hours of downtime. (Which isn't very often)

CFC would probably get free hosting for life then at this rate.

EDIT: Crosspost with Pouakai... Not nearly as funny now. :(

My site went down a half-hour (something happened and the redundancy didn't kick in) and I got a free month.

I was thinking a bit. You might want to check the website logs. Suspicious activity with strange user-agents. I remember the CPU usage went way up on my old site 'cos of a over-aggressive Russian searchbot.
