Solver's unofficial BtS 3.17 patch

Maybe if they new it was there to begin with... but they don't know that if they don't go there in the first place... :mischief:

I've never been there before, and I'm a modder myself!

Well I've been there to get some modders thoughts on things but no one was there to read it, and no one goes there because there's nothing to read and there's nothing to read because no one posts, and no one posts because no one goes there to read...:crazyeye:

Shouldn't the first post at least point towards the new forum?

And from the looks of it, moving it into a whole Forum is cutting down on Posts Per Day.
Perhaps a good thing, perhaps not.
Definitely more time consuming to try to follow a whole new Forum, than one thread.

According to the Civilopedia, the Aztec unique building, the Sacrificial Altar, costs 90 hammers to produce. Similarly, the Sumerian unique building, the Ziggurat, also costs 90 hammers to produce. These are replacements to the ordinary Courthouse.

I think there's a problem here: the Civilopedia clearly states that the Sumerians (Gilgamesh's civilization) have the advantage of building Courthouses at a cheaper cost than other civilizations, but the Aztecs not only pay the same lower price as the Sumerians, they also earn less unhappiness from using Slavery to hurry buildings and units.

I wasn't sure whether to classify this as a bug report or whether to post it as a general query, but Solver should probably look at this in the next update to his unofficial patch.

AFAIK both buildings have always cost 90 hammers, this has nothing to do with 3.17. The advantage of the Sumerian Ziggurat is that it is available with Priesthood instead of Code of Laws and thus allows a more aggressive REXing strategy.

Oh. Hm. That'd explain things well, and I guess the Aztecs having less  from whipping wouldn't be so good in the mid-game so they gave them cheaper Courthouses too.

I missed the Priesthood bit. Got too excited with the new "building replaced by" fix in Solver's latest patch. Still, I thought the summary of the building would say something to the tune of "the Ziggurat is special because it can be built after discovering Priesthood instead of Code of Laws" instead of just saying that it's cheaper to build than its generic counterpart.

Solver, I'm quite lazy so I tried to get to the new forum by using the link in your sig - It brought me back to where I was: Here...

Maybe you can update the link or give a hint for the new forum in the 1st post? That would be appreciated! ;)

P.S.: Your work on the unofficial patch is very much appreciated as well! Thanks!

I understand that Barrage was removed from tanks in 3.17, but I don't get whats going on here; these two bullet points seem to contradict each other.

  • Access to the Barrage line removed from armored units. If units with access to Barrage and no inherent collateral damage are modded in, they will work.
  • Barrage promotions made working again on Tanks and other units with no base collateral ability

So its removed, then its made working again?:crazyeye:
Can someone please clarify that for me?

The 3.17 patch changed how the Barrage promotions work. Only units that have a native collateral damage will ever do collateral damage. Since Firaxis left Tanks with the ability to be promoted with Barrage, it allowed you to waste a promotion.

Solver made two fixes.

  1. Assuming that Firaxis intended remove the ability for Tanks to ever do collateral damage, he removed the Barrage promotion line from Tanks. You can no longer promote a Tank down this line.
  2. Anticipating that some people would not like this, he changed the Barrage promotion so that, in the case of a unit with zero native collateral damage, it adds collateral damage instead of multiplying it.
Important: If you want this to have any effect in your games using Solver's patch, you will have to modify the Tank's XML file so that it can receive the Barrage promotions.

Also a lot of scenarios and mods have barrage promotions on units like Tanks, that have no native collateral damage. Solver's fix makes them able to do collateral damage.

No, you only have ignore the Promotions.xml file he includes with his patch, and not add it to your game. That's where he's removed the Barrage promotions. AFAIK, that's the only change that has been made in that file.

I am not very good with all the technical stuff. So - I have a game I REALLY want to finish but it is 3.13. Can I download this patch and have the 3.17 changes apply to my saved game? Thanks

Generally a major patch like 3.17 will break save game compatibility. I would strongly advise against patching until you finish your current game, especially if you are not encountering any game-breaking issues (bugs) anyway.

And welcome to CivFanatics! :goodjob: :cooool:

Hi,
Does this patch build on the official 3.17 patch, or does the official 3.17 patch build on this unofficial one? I am confused, can someone please clarify? Or is this basically just an unrelated project?

Any clarification is helpful, I am previously unfamiliar with this project.

Thanks.

This patch requires the 3.17 patch already be installed. The official 3.17 patch, however, doesn't require this patch.
