Sons of Mars II

Define "many Islamic nations" because very few do what you say they do.

They may not actually start religious wars on that pretext alone, but none of them would have moral objections to doing so- if for some reason one started a war for purely religious reasons none of the others would consider it acceptable to attack them for that reason.

Also, might I point out that with the exception of wars such as the Crusades very few were started purely because of a rival's religion, even though in principle this was acceptable?

We are looking a bit too much into the ruleset; I intend to let the game runs its course to identify what works and what doesn't. ;)

Spoiler :
panslavicunion.png

Nation Name: Pan-Slavic Union
Government: A loose confederation with a nominal king at its head
National Strengths: Expansionist, Agricultural
National Focus: Civics
Free Units: 7 armies and 3 navies
Religion: Orthodox Christianity
Official Languages: Old Novgorod, Russian
Culture: A highly distinctive Orthodox Slavic culture with diffirent Baltic, Kievan, Novgorod, and Black Sea variations. Farming and fishing form the backbone of the economy, with mining taking up the majority of the rest of the market. Each member state prides itself on its own disctinctive cultre, government, and dialect which in a way makes he Slavs feel as if they are Kievans or Odessans and not Slavs.
History: The Slavic peoples migrating east from the lands of Asia and the frozen north of Siberia. When they arrived they began settling down in what would today be considered Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Another wave of Slavic migrants came and settled south in the Balkans. The last wave traveled only a short distance and later formed the nations that in our timeline would have developed into Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Other groups had migrated with the Slavs and subjugated them to their will.

An Eastern Slavic revolt(often given the misleading name of the Pan-Slavic Revolution) however threw the yoke of the invaders off and establish the Pan-Slavic Union(also a misnomer). Prince Rurik I was put on the throne and given weak authority of the various member states. Recently, efforts have been put into agressive land grabbing in other Slavic regions.

I think that Religious CB should always be available. However, a RR risk after tech 40 might be in order?

"Matthias". A whisper was heard to King Matthias of the Kalmar Union in the middle of the night. "Uh, are those Swedes counter-attacking Stockholm again? I'm getting tired of this bullcrap they pull-". The voice said, "No, those are below me. Wake up, and look who I am". Matthias light the candles near his bed, and saw a muscular man holding a hammer.

The mysterious man who disturbed Matthias

"Thor!?", he gasped in shock. "Yes", said the man, "I have come from Asgard, presenting you with a gift. Odin and the rest of us whole heartingly approve of the uniting of our followers, and we will assist you as needed". He then outstretched his hand, with his hammer being presented to the king. "You want to give me Mjölnir?", Matthias said, not believing this was real. "Of course not, no one but a god could wield Mjölnir. However, this will be your own hammer, Udødelighed. Take it".

Matthias quickly took the hammer, and started looking at it in awe. Thor continued, "This hammer has an ability unlike any other. For any mortal trusted by gods to wield it shall live forever more. You can still die in combat, but you will not age, you will always recover from illness, and other crippling things have no effect. Our only request is that you will fight in battle directly with your troops, for a true Norseman is a warrior. If we deem you a coward, we will take the hammer from you, along with the immortality, and you will never see Valhalla or Fólkvangr. However, I can tell you that upon your death in battle, you'll go to Valhalla. We have prior arrangements".

Matthias nodded to Thor, at a lost of words to say. "There is nothing more to be said now. I will now return to Asgard. Remember, Odin, me, and the rest of the gods will help our chosen people out. As long as you are faithful, you shall never fail". And in one instant, Thor was gone. Matthias looked at Udødelighed again. He whispered, "I will not fail you", blew out the candles, and went back to sleep.

(Hey, if AA can have an immortal, I can have the Norse pantheon give slight benefits to my nation. :p)

Is there something extremely sexy about Eastern Europe and the Balkans that I don't know about?

Thankfully there are no Chaos Emeralds this time around, so any insanity on the part of Super-NPCs I create should be minimal.

...should.

I'm amazed no one's chosen Centralised.

Centralised states get 5 support instead of 4 per Civics. Translation: At Civics 25, the Centralised state has 125 support to the non-Centralised's 100. That's 25 more provinces that can be held and generate income without revolt risk!

@ Sonereal: Europe is fetishised subconsciously.

Europe will take its historical role as superpower because the trade agreements will happen sooner there, and competition will foster innovation.

I realized that in your games, money fuels everything. If you make more money, you can train more armies, get more techs, and do lots of other stuff. If you don't have deep pockets, you mind as well not play. That's why most of my bonuses are for monetary gain. I chose Religious so I always have war as an option.

Anyways, lets say I claim Iceland, then Greenland, like in OTL. Would it be possible to reach Vinland? If so, would I have any penalties for early colonialism? Can any nation who doesn't have acess to Ameirca demand Vinland in a war?

Also, my suggestion above stands.

Spain

Never mind...

You known nearly all that land is already claimed?
Edit: To both Math and CivGeneral.

GOD DAMN IT. I'm sitting this one out then...

Europe will take its historical role as superpower because the trade agreements will happen sooner there, and competition will foster innovation.

And Africa will be the opposite.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU--

Solution: Go up down the Nile to meet Europe, or work with the tons of NPCs that will pop up near me.

Anyways, lets say I claim Iceland, then Greenland, like in OTL. Would it be possible to reach Vinland

In theory yes. Your navy just has to reach that part. And short of me introducing barbarian navies to keep the New and Old World separate, not much I can do about that.

If so, would I have any penalties for early colonialism?

None at the moment. But North America will likely become an NPC playground anyway. So far, it's shaping up to be where I'll place the Super NPC.

Can any nation who doesn't have acess to Ameirca demand Vinland in a war?

Anybody who can haz war with you can haz your cheeseburgerz. Erm, I mean, yes, they could. You just did the dirty work.

(I SERIOUSLY hope these lands are NOT claimed. Note to self, make a request to reserve Japan in future IOT)

Looks like we're doing beautifully. 17 players and counting!

I think I'll introduce a Super NPC now. I say a, because I had assumed I'd have to produce multiple, but it looks like you all have done a great job of filling out the roster.

I am going to have fun with this next part...

So, is begins?

The Kalmar Union announces its right given by the gods to rule the Nordics. Any intrusions means war!

EDIT: KALMAR. IS. DANISH. NOT. SWEDISH. *Kicks someone down a pit*

Well, the city of Kalmar is. But not the union of the nations, both in OTL and TTL. Copenhagen had all the politcal power.
