South Dakota legislature weighs nearly total abortion ban

Can't say I really care, abortion is murder, pure and simple.

However, almost everyone who gets abortions are most likely not capable of raising a child. I've got a friend who contributes the drop of the 1990's crime rate drop to Roe vs Wade. His philsophy is that the criminals were just not being made.

People have been doing abortions since we were living in caves. Banning abortion does not stop it, you'll just have a lot of women dying because of botched underground abortions as well as a lot of dead newborns in dumpsters. Also, if the baby has a defect that means it won't live after birth the mother would still be forced to carry the fetus to term. That this law doesn't even allow abortions in the case of rape or incest is also sick, that child would be a reminder to the mom about how she was abused so she would hate and abuse the child. All the anti-choice people should be forced to pay the living expenses of all the poor single moms would would be forced to have a child they can't afford. Compassionate Conservatism my @ss.

comedian Jeanine Garofalo had the very good idea of banning abortion and instituting the "buddy system" That being all pro lifers can get a buddy for next 18 years to care for.

A poor single mother can get more money with a child, than she can without one. Tax breaks are quite alot nowadays, and you can thank those Compassionate conservatises for that. ;)

How exactly does a tax break help someone who cannot work?

Then you get unemployment...

Okay, before we let this turn into a religious debate, I want people to understand that abortion IS NOT A RELIGIOUS ISSUE!!

Is walking into a pediatrics center of a hospital and opening up with an AK-47 at all the babies a religious issue? No, it's murder of innocent lives, and everybody recognizes that. Fetuses are alive, don't try to argue otherwise. Aborting them is ending an innocent life, just like shooting a baby in a crib is. It's murder, plain and simple. Religion doesn't come into play at all.

Now, why does it seem that most people who are opposed to abortion are also religous conservatives? Might be an interesting topic of a sociology conference, but it has no bearing on the fact that abortion is not a religious issue.

You say that abortion is not a religious issue, and then state that fetuses are an innocent life, as if it were an indisputable fact. I believe you'll find a near perfect correlation between religious belief and the belief that an fetus is a human being. I assume that this stems from belief in an immortal soul that gets somehow put into the embryo at conception. Without the concept of a soul, there is really no way to logically or empircally argue that an embryo equates to a human being. Therefore, the abortion debate is entirely a religious issue.

But does that mean society should endorse it?
Nobody is in favor of abortions. The problem is that some are in favor of prohibiting abortions. There's a difference between "being against a ban" and "endorsing it".

What’s really surprising is that this bill would also ban abortions for rape victims and pregnancies were the mother could really be hurt.

How can you justify forcing a rape victim to give birth if she doesn't want the child? Are religous fundies going to foot the bill and take care of unwanted babies?

Forcing a rape victim to give birth is consistent with the view that a baby is a person who deserves protections.

Like I said are fundies willing to take care of these unwanted babies themselves? If fundies can support the death penalty then what’s the problem with supporting abortion?

I sometimes wonder if someone against abortion would support it if their own daughter had been raped by say for example… some mentally ******** crack addict from Zimbabwe.

I should hope so.

And any person who loved the baby less because of who the father is - is an awful person.

I have friends who are foster parents of babies. Most of these babies have developmental problems. But let me tell you, my friends love each one (deeply), with no prejudice to who the parents are.

"pro-life" implies that the pro-choice people LIKE abortions, almost no one likes abortions, it is oftem emotionaly painful for the woman getting the abortion. It is a neccissary evil in a world where people don't use protection like they should. I think abortions should be safe, legal, and rare and the best way to pevent abortions is to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place and proper sex ed (no abstinence-only crap). The use of the term "pro-life" is like using the term "Death Tax" for the exicise tax, using psycology to frame the issue in an ideologically biased way.

The fundies think rape victims are sluts that were "asking for it" and therefore deserves the burden. You can't reason with these people. [pissed]

Certanly I hope South Dakoda to ban totaly ban abortions and move into the culture of life.
