Anyone else here a Star Wars Geek? Some very serious questions.

1. Best and worst SW movie.
2. What do you think of the expanded universe (books, comics, video games)
3. Favourite EU character/villain
4. Best and worst Star Wars authors.

I like Grand Admiral Thrawn as favourite SW villain (more than Vader), Darth Revan and the Knights of the Old Republic video game, and I liked the Legacy comics. Alot of crap in the EU as well such as the New Jedi Order books.

I like a number of the games and have been known to spend a wee bit too much time on wookiepedia, that good enough?

It goes Empire-Hope-Jedi-Sith-Phantom-Clonegaystupid, though really if it were up to me the last three wouldn't exist.

I think the expanded universe can be cool at times but a lot of it is ridiculous and annoys me because it leaves literally NOTHING to the imagination. Everything in the films from the guy sitting at the end of the bar in the cantina to admiral ackbar's chair have some long and somewhat tedious backstory.

Jedi-Sith-Hope-Clone-Empire------------Phantom

Otherwise pretty much what Communisto said. I hate how every character that has a name in the movies has an epic background in the books and it is never simple. Plus most turn out to be Jedi's in the books.

1. Best is Empire Strikes Back, worst is Phantom Menace
2. Some of it is interesting, some ********
3. Darth Bane
4. :dunno: I haven't really read that many EU books, most of my knowledge comes from Wookieepedia.

I get Star Wars geekdom in streaks. I saw a premiere of Ep1 but waited years to see Ep.2-3 on dvd.

I had severe geekdom recently, playing Tt's Lego Star Wars compilation.

1. No comment. I know purists hate the newer episodes, but there's such a huge technical difference and evolving content that I feel the episodes are somewhat apples to oranges. I mean I doubt episode 4 was conceived with any concept of any of the other episodes (It's amusing to me to see "A New Hope" where Darth Vadar confronts his daughter at the beginning without apparently any clue who she was relative to him despite all the other plot fixes in the series). I mostly like them all.

2. I like the expanded universe per the pre-Jedi execution by Palpatine. But then I like anime (though it's probably not the best anime in style). I'm not much for the post Ep.6 cycles, Han's further adventures, etc... I think it's a shame that Han Solo didn't get some spin-off movies though.

3. I'm partial to Darth Maul (is he EU?). Until it was clear that his visual uniqueness was racial, I though he was way cooler than Vadar.

1. Empire is best, Phantom Menace worst
2. It's cool, except for people who take it way too stupid or seriously. Especially anything/anyone heavily retconning the movies and contradicting each other and trying to pick fights over George Lucas. Also, many Star Wars fans are kinda low on the scale of fandoms, particularly those with inferiority complexes and disdain for other sci-fi. (Though this goes for fans of things in general. It's incredibly annoying when a group of fans likes one thing but hates everything else possibly related to it.)
3. Thrawn
4. Timothy Zahn is cool; out of the rest the majority suck. Video games I don't really count, many are fun/all right, talking about book authors or other independent mediums here.

Well, what do you know. I just played a round of Star Wars Rebellion for reminiscence's sake. Highly underrated game, that.

Rebellion was one of my worst PC game purchases. It seemed way cool upon reading a review, but I bought it not knowing enough about the genre (I don't like RTS games), and it seemed clunky regardless.

The movies are overrated as well. Yes, even the old ones. They only seemed so great because we saw them as kids. Empire Strikes Back is the best one. It all went downhill after that. It seemed to get a little too kiddy after that. It's good popcorn fare, but I see no reason to be hardcore about it.

1. Empire Strikes Back, Phantom Menace & Attack of the Clones (tied)

don't get into EU, so won't comment on the other questions.

(I don't like RTS games)

I think I see the problem.

I like Rebellion's dynamic political system (a lost battle at the wrong place and time can make the entire empire revolt against you) and the way it provides a perspective on strategy gaming that is different from the ordinary "he who builds the most [insert military hardware] wins". The game also contains a lot of encyclopedic star wars info that adds to the immersion value.

I like the old trilogy and the Clone Wars stuff, but I think most of the rest of the EU is crap.

1. Empire Strikes Back is the best, Attack of the Clones is the worst.
2. The EU on a whole is a big disappointment, there's some good stuff, but a lot of it is poorly written or just stupid.
3. Grand Admiral Thrawn
4. The best is Timothy Zahn, I might be biased because I read the Thrawn Trilogy as a kid, but it's probably the best set of books in the EU.
As for the worst, whoever wrote The Glove of Darth Vader series, which I also read as kid as well, but even then realized was terrible.

Return of the Jedi was overall pretty good. The Ewoks were the only bad part.

Empire > Jedi > Hope > Sith. They are the only Star Wars movies vaguely worth mentioning.

I used to like the Expanded Universe novels, then I realized what crap anything without Zhan's name (maybe Stackpole's) on it was. Particularly if it has "New Jedi Order", "Legacy of the Force" or "Fate of the Jedi" on the cover)

Game-wise, I loved the Rogue Squadron games, and I wish my copy of Rebellion still worked. That game was great :-D.

I liked the Legacy of the force books, but mybe that was because they were better than the godawful NJO books. Aaron Allston is really only the other SW author who has never really done an awful SW book. He wrote the Wraith squadron books and the best of the NJO series- Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand IIRC.

Star Wars Rebellion was agood game and I quite liked the Force Unleashed gane as well.
