:crazyeye: on the delivery. I always thought he seemed a little wooden.

 on the tax cuts. Can you guys really afford them at that speed? And how long before someone says that he's bribing the voters to support a war???

 on the dividend tax proposal, long overdue.

:) - the health/drug proposal - although it depends on how the subsidy package works to encourage seniors to shift from the state plan.

And the applause is, as usual, overdone...

21:22 - and I'm real happy :D with this sudden green pitch, especially the billions (missed the $ figure) on fuel cell research, but where the hell did all this come from?

Delivery improving as he goes on.

Goddamn I want a Big Mac.

I thought the same thing. I'm going to be driving a hydrogen car! ;) :D

Goddamn I want a Big Mac.

I just ate one. :D Oh, and you beat me to this thread - damn you. ;)

latest: anti drug education programs

  on this mentor program idea. The first new and potentially useful social program idea I've heard out of government in 5 years.

So far, my view is, as a domestic offensive, this stuff could go B+ if it actually takes...

Are there any big macs in the 15th century oh duke of something-something?;)
Btw is there somewhere where i can read his speech?

He's giving it now. I'm surprised that its not on TV or radio there. If you can't get it, it should be in papers tomorrow.

Abortion just came up. No partial-birth - I'm personally for it.

high standard for humanity: ban human cloning

I didn't really like that segue into foreign politics - seemed kind of forced. Although I'm surprised that he wants to ban ALL human cloning - thats kind of radical, he is a moderate after all.

africa now...aids

21:30 - entering into foreign policy. "The American flag stands for more than our power and our interests..."

"...and confound the designs of evil men."

"More than 60% of international food aid comes as a gift from the United States."

Interesting - has anyone here read "The Tomorrow File," and its discussion of the concept of "agriwar" and food dependency as the best weapon in the hands of the United States...?

The delivery on this AIDS stuff is his best ever.

Wow, Dick Cheney has a really big head...

 LOL! I'm surprised that he's bringing up AIDS - it kind of puts pressure on him to do something. I'd expect a less direct approach.

"go home and die"...who wrote this?

Isn't this the state of the UNION adress, not the state of Africa adress?

And all this clapping is really annoying... do they really get excited by the words "win", "U.S.A", "Victory", and "Confront"? :ack:

Re: AIDS, I think he just won about 30 votes in the UN...

But that "and we are winning" line on the war on terror was a bit too cold and cute, and will probably be used widely in clips. Which, frankly, would be a political mistake in my view compared to the domestic stuff.

Yeah, I liked the personal touch there. I don't know how he can push for "moderate spending" in Washington DC and "spending control" and then go around bringing up 1.4bil to hydrogen, 15 bil to AIDS in Africa and Carribean. Thats not "moderate spending" IMO.

aids in africa nd carribean...what about china?

 My teacher made my brother's class count the claps to see if they are watching...up to 49 interruptions now. :crazyeye:

He's back on Al Queda now.

sorry for the typos, rushing to type

21:27 - interesting stuff on the war on terror, eh? Is that stuff on the Straits of Hormuz and Gibraltar new information?

Non-north americans, how do you react to that stuff about "let me put it this way - these people are no longer a threat to the United States" ?

Yes, Cgannon, this sounds an awful lot like "big government in miniature," although it's mostly good stuff in my (jaundiced, pro-small government) view.

Bio-Shield Project now...

Intelligence agencies working closer...

FBI, CIA, Pentagon developing anti-terror net...

Oh, and some claps too. War on terror is will, september 11 made a pledge to fight terror, will not permit terrorism. Freedom will set course of history.
