stDarNES1: Stars! -- UPDATE 1
--------------------
GALACTIC NEWS ORGANIZATION (NDE 1)
Greetings, beings! Mr. Grey here with another edition of
Galactic News Tonight. In tonights edition, we continue our coverage of the Backwater Region where several groups of mostly-hairless bipedal hominids have begun returning to space.
For an upfront look at the developing situation, we go now to Mr. Dee, our Backwater Region reporter. Mr. Dee, how are you?
I'm doing well, Mr. Grey, thank you. As we continue our coverage, I think the easiest way to tell you what's going on is to visit each Faction, one by one.
Astral Sojourners
The Astral Sojourners have sent their first exploration fleet outside of their Home System of Oncol. Their target Star System was Nox. Upon entering the Star System through the Jumpgate, the Sojourner Fleet (Backwater Patrol) began scanning throughout the system, finding nothing but mostly-toxic planetary bodies, earning the Nox System an MDP rating of 4.
The Sojourners have placed a great emphasis and pride upon returning to Space, and have been researching the appropriate Construction technologies like mad (Construction Level 2 gained). The have also begun to understand the benefits of extensive Science (Project begun).
Jaenar Empire
Protecting their interests, the Jaenar Empire has begun construction of a fleet of Fighters and Carriers in their Home System of Anatolia. The Imperial Republic has passed a decree allowing for the designation of all fleets as "IFEs"
A solitary Scoutship makes the first Jaenarian passage through one of the Jumpgates in Anatolia system, ending up in the Hern System. A detailed scan of the planetary bodies around this star indicates no presence of life, and the relative hostility of the planetoids earns this system an MDP rating of 4.
The Jaenarians have also begun the construction of a Global Science Facility on their Homeworld, hoping to provide enough funding to eventually receive a massive return on their science spending.
The Skyjack Conclave
This Faction is taking to Space as if it was their natural habitat. A large exodus was witnessed from their Homeworld out into the various asteroids and other smaller bodies of the Star System. While many are only used to living Planetside, most are becoming quickly adept at working in Space. And with this sudden population move, the Star System has come alive with the frentic activity of Humans.
The "Tumbleweed" braves the unknown and makes a successful jump to the Ceiti System. Ceiti is found to be home to two large, bio-diverse worlds, and a host of smaller mineral-rich planets and moons. Prospectors are calling Ceiti a rare find, earning an MDP rating of 8.
The Skyjacks have also begun to pull asteroids from the outer system to an orbit around their Homeworld. With the latest advances in Robotics helping them along, Skyjack officials are confident that the "Madya Halo" will be completed in only a few short years.
Imperial Triumptive Republic of Trinity
In Trinity, the commisioning of the "Obelisk" has captured the hearts and minds of an entire generation. This has lead to an independent group building a new scoutship and donating it to the ITR's exploration cause.
The first jump through a gate was done by the Obelisk, heading to the Coteyi System. An intriguing system, it would be more habitable if not for the erratic solar flares caused by a slightly unstable sun. ITR scientist have postulated that there could be much to learn from the sun, and with sufficiently advanced Energy controls, perhaps even stop the solar flares completely. (MDP: 3)
Haven
Cheers erupted across the Haven worlds as the first ever scoutship launched itself into one of the many jumpgates in the system. Everyone held their breath, waiting for the first reports to filter in. It was tense, but excited, not knowing what to expect. Finally, the first transmissions returned through the gate: "Preliminary scans of Dahl show a decent system of planets (MDP: 5). Good for colonization... wait a minute.. picking up something odd... holy $%#! we've picked up traces of the Scourge!"
The Scoutship was able to avoid the Scourge this time. The Haven stardocks have picked up business, churning out transports and fighters.
Republic of ZIB
Upon orders of Haile Sallassie XIII, the Republic of ZIB has slightly reformed it's free-for-all party-based economic system, and thrown in a few regulations here and there to stabilize the economy. While the state of the Economy is no rose garden, at least the Republic is losing money (or sleep) over it now. (NOTE: you said you wanted to increase economy, which took all your EPs, so no other ships were bought).
The Black Diamond Skunk makes the jump to Kondis, and finds an impressive star system with a decent spread of biodiversity and mineral richness (MDP: 5). The system is devoid of intelligent life and any sign of the Scourge.
The Midnight Marauder makes the jump to Asgron (MDP: 5), and finds itself immediately scanned by an unknown source. A return scan reveals the presence of a small outpost on a barely-habitable planetoid, and the presence of one run-down carrier. The Marauder attempts to signal the 'alien humans' and receives only a threat in return. A couple fighters dispatch from the carrier, but the Marauder, being of new construction, is able to out-maneuver the opposition, and the pirates eventually give up the chase.
Meanwhile, on Zadon, increasing tension is rising between the Isolationists and the Expansionists. There have been a few scuffles in the streets, and even amongst workers of different ideologies. The situation is growing more serious, and the average citizen (trying not to fall into either party's line of thought) has pleaded with the government (pro-expansionist) to find a solution to the growing violence.
Miria
The Kingdom of Miria, having long controlled its subjects, has begun an extensive campaign of building new starships to explore the new jumpgates. The First Expeditionary Fleet, consisting of one standard scoutship, made the jump to Centaus. What was found was a small star system of 5 planets, but with 3 of them habitable right off the mark (MDP: 5). Truly a fortuitous sign.
Miria scientists have also been studying the jump gate energy signatures, hoping to understand why some jump gates seem to emit more energy than others. As of now, they seem to be steering clear of the higher-energy jump gates.
Principality of Zaira
A scoutship is sent to the Pillius System. The System is reasonably cozy (MDP: 5), and would make a good spot for colonization. Back home, the Principality begins training ground soldiers, perhaps to keep the peace on the homeworld? (NOTE: economy cannot be increased past stable with EPs. I banked those 2 EPs for you, and they will be available this turn).
STORY BONUSES:
Astral Sojourners - +25 Fighters at Oncol
Trinity - +1 Scoutship
ZIB - +1 Confidence
NOTE: PLEASE ENSURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE RULES. SHIPS BUILT IN YOUR ORDERS CANNOT BE USED IN THE SAME TURN. ECONOMY CANNOT BE INCREASED BY EP INVESTMENT (unless you're below stable).
-Also, please PM your orders to me. It's so much easier than digging around in the thread for orders.
-Andis-1 and KrimzonStryker, this is a story based NES, so please write stories. Starting with Update 2, a lack of a story will PENALIZE you're Faction in some way.
-Soul_Warrior and KrimzonStryker, your projects were not started this turn because you failed to enter them into your orders for the turn.
DUE TO THE HOLIDAY, ORDERS WILL NOT BE DUE UNTIL Friday DECEMBER 30th, 0900 EST. The Update will be published on either Jan 2 or 3.
For those of you who celebrate, Happy Holidays!
